    Would be nice to have a series for those of us who are really stiff as planks, with very short muscles all over the backside: and we are youngsters too, not just old biddies. This is totally, utterly undoable.

      Damsel289 I agree. Also, the "Journey to splits" moves may be effective for someone who already has a certain degree of flexibility. Many other people, including me, need a 30 day program just to be able to do the moves 1-5! I was hoping this video would address the issue with a more gradual approach. It's not just a matter of committment: I tried to follow the plan and the only result was that I injured my hamstrings. And yes, I did warm up before.

      To help with your splits, try doing over splits on your couch to another couch or something high up. Because the weight of your upper body presses down, and it helps your splits get better.

      Do you want the cheerleading scorpion or the yoga scorpion? They are two different things. But both require a flexible back. There are a ton of videos on the cheerleading scorpion. But having the splits is beneficial to getting a scorpion. :)

      +Rachel Laansma Just keep doing the stretches and keep trying, if you do that then eventually you will be able to do the splits.

    • @heaven2touch
      @heaven2touch 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rachel Laansma I know it's frustrating when you're just starting, but, honestly, just keep trying. Last summer I couldn't even sit on my knees properly. Now that I'm focusing on my flexibility though, just last week I let go of my fear and realized that I was able to do the split with Cassey at the end. Do the beginner variations to the best of your ability and you will get better. Just keep trying.

      To be honest, it's not really supposed to be hard for non flexible people. She constantly says " Ow " Towards the middle and end of the video. You need to push yourself to get there even if you feel it

    • @muesliliebhaberin2960
      @muesliliebhaberin2960 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Some_TH-camr I think that is because for that stretch it isn't important to have flexible legs, it is to open your hips. So if you have naturally really open or wide hips, this won't be a problem for you. For me it is the other way around, my legs are quite flexible so the rest of the moves were nnot as bad, but I really struggled with the first one because my hips are naturally very narrow. It just depends on your body type! Just keep practicing! :)

    I felt like this did not make sense on a beginners calendar. especially given that no modifications were demonstrated. I couldn't even get close to what she was doing almost the whole time and it isn't clear what modification will give mean I was still stretching the targeted area or muscle. I ended up just really frustrated. I feel like I have experienced this with all the stretching videos on the calendar so far. which is weird because for the other types of videos she does a really good job explaining modifications and making it beginner friendly (at least for a significant number of the excersises)

      I am 15 and naturally inflexible. I wanted to improve my flexibility for dance, but I was discouraged that I wasn't making progress as quickly as other people. I have now been stretching everyday for a few months, and I can almost do the splits! It takes a lot longer for some people, but if you are patient your flexibility will improve! :)

    The one where we stretch forward while cross-legged is a breeze. I used to take yoga classes in the evenings before I started working and I found I could do that sort of pose without a problem (in fact it decreases stress for me and I sit that way when I have anxiety attacks). However my hamstrings are atrociously unbendy. Before I took yoga I certainly couldn't touch my toes, it took a week of stretching to even be able to do that. When I try to go into the splits I can't even get close not because my groin isn't flexible enough but because I can't even straighten my leg (because my hamstrings etc etc). But I'll keep working at it.

    Casey: i’m going to bring my leg forward and sit down into the splits
    Me: ok sweetie, you go ahead - I’ll just stretch out with my front leg bent
    Casey: now I’m going to show you stand up splits
    Me: uhuh, I’ll just stretch out my other side with the previous stretch and watch your stand up splits

    • @tiryaclearsong421
      @tiryaclearsong421 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That straddle stretch helps. Also lay on your back and stretch your legs out into a straddle while laying on your back so gravity can help pull legs out. Once you get close to the middle splits, start pulling through after your straddle stretch. This is where you grip the floor and pull your body forward from the straddle stretch until your laying on your stomach with your legs together behind you.

  • @nattieenatt

    Thanks for the video! The thing about the splits is that they are REALLY hard to maintain and you have to stretch every single day.. Especially as you get older you flexibility decreases... Thank you I'll use these stretches to maintain my splits!

    I have wanted to become more flexible so I have started stretching for 15-20 minutes a day. I started about 4 days ago and I can already feel the difference. Before I did the butterflyand I couldn't come so long way down. When I stretched today I could reach very far and come very close to the floor. I was really hoping to see a flexibility video and it came 😂
