2” pvc on the top, 1.5” pvc on the bottom. Just shot screws through the crate to fasten the pvc tubes to the crate. Rod tubes are simply screwed through the rod tubes and screwed into the pvc. I used the screws that were included in the rod tubes from Amazon. I did not have the bottom pvc tube so the wheels would freely spin in removed from the kayak, and used shorter screws in that area so the screws would not interfere with the wheels.
What did you use to mount the rod tubes ? Also where did you get the buckle

The buckles are just standard bucks you can buy online.. scuba webbing was used for the straps.
