My top three favorite are: 1) Akane 2) Tamu 3) Haruna Now, seeing Junna looking like she's having more fun than all other drummers combined, I'll have to check her out.
@@bintangdeasmara9947 what makes Band Maid more special than other Japanese female bands for me is the way they write their music, I mean both guitars, both vocals, bass and drum all combine together.
@@Mikupigeon That's their advantage that I think other bands don't have, with their crazy music that is solid but cohesive and not messy, great isn't it? each member is very special.
My list - 10. Natsumi (probably this low because I don't listen to Bridear enough) 9. Miki (The OG and we are of the same vintage) 8. Yoyoka (a genuine prodigy with the Ian Paice seal of approval) 7. Sae (the final great piece that Hanabie needed) 6. Nao (the Japanese drummer I have been listening to the longest - and how the &%@% could she be left off anyone's list??) 5. Junna (a force of nature that needs to be back in a band) 4. Tamu (these top 4 are very tough but someone has to be 4th) 3. Hana (IMHO this woman belongs on the drums) 2. Akane (I was fortunate to be able to see her live in October and she was world class - also funny, as they all were) 1. Haruna (She is the least flashy of the top 4 but she continually impresses me the most - can't wait till February)
As far as straight-ahead metal drummers go, it's pretty hard to top Haruna or Tamu; but when it comes to writing and executing ingenious charts that contrast creatively with the other instruments, it's Akane Hirose all day, every day.
These women all have amazing skills. But I'm not much of a metal fan, so of this list, Akane is the best for me. She uses a lot of jazz-like triplets and syncopation, and her compositions are very complex. And she has a masculine groove and strength to her.

Great list. All peerless talents. My personal favorite is Akane; I listen to her drumming regularly, whereas the others on this list tend to be seasonal.
Once again your top 3 are the same as mine. I just find it difficult to put them in order. From the lists you have done it seems pretty clear that your favorite metal band from Japan is Nemophila and your favorite rock band is Band Maid. Coincidentally I have the same opinion. 🇯🇵🥁🔥🤘
1. Tamu, 2. Akane, 3. Natsumi, ... still hard. Certainly Mari much higher and certainly Aruto (the first drummer in Aldious) in the top 10. The first 3 are intelligent, varied, interesting playing. Mari and "her younger sister" Haruna (similar in appearance and playing) are the queens of metal drumming (less progressive, more sharp, fast playing). I believe they are the most durable and the fastest. Mari plays a little funny. Bent over the drums, she barely moves her sticks. On the other hand, it seems very ergonomic. He usually laughs at that. She should be nicknamed "Cyborg". Junna has not shown enough for me yet. But not only did she play with Trident and make videos for the channel. She also participated in the project: 神凪アリス act.3 ワンマンライブ 2020.11.29 ~Nocturnal Symphony~ th-cam.com/video/UFdGNJ2g4ME/w-d-xo.html (Yashiro, Mary's Blood's concert supporter also plays there).
This is a hard one. Tamu has ridiculous skill, playing X Japan and Dream Theater covers with ease and a huge smile. She totally kills it in Nemophila. I've seen her live, so I'm biased. But I'd agree with her at the top spot. Junna, to me, has amazing talent but hasn't quite proven herself with a band yet. Things didn't work out with her and Trident. She needs to learn how to build a pocket with her band mates. For that reason, she is just a youtube drummer to me. Akane is very close to Tamu's technical skill, and has a little better feel because of her tight chemistry with Misa and Kanami. I can't really argue with those who put her at #1. My list goes like this for now. 1. Tamu 2. Akane 3. Natsumi 4. Marina 5. Hana 6. Mari 7. Mizuki (Lonesome Blue) 8. Nao (Maximum the Hormone) 9. Haruna 10. Sae
There are many amazing drummers in Japan. I'm surprised that you didn't have Nao in your top 10. My picks: 1/ Akane 2/ Tamu 3/ Nao 4/ Hana 5/ Senri (In fact, she's the best) Special mention to yuri (Gacharic Spin), Rina (SCANDAL), Tohko (SAISEIGA, ZETTAI CLUB)
Tohko (Saiseiga), Hina (Tribal Scream Of Phoenix), Mizuki (Lonesome Blue), Chiiko (D-Drive), Nao (MTH), Kanako (Hagane), Haruka (Fate Gear), Miki Tsunoda (Show-Ya) and Yuri (Gacharic Spin) could be part of this list, but my favorite is Senri Kawaguchi.
Another great video Frank, thank you...again putting them in order for me is impossible. As others have stated I would have to include Nao Kawakita and Tohko (Saiseiga and Zettai Club). When I am at concerts my eye is always on the drummer -Nagisa and Natsumi (and every Japanese female drummer) never stop smiling, they are so amazing. I saw a smaller band called Cantoy and the drummer called Sae Matsumoto was awesome and a really humble lady, worth checking out. One concert I went to was a '3 man show' in Shinjuku it had - Broken by the Scream, Hanabie and Trident...during Trident's first song Sae ran across the stage and dived into the crowd for some crowd surfing..she is awesome.
Great list! Hard to go wrong here. I'm hard pressed to think of a Japanese female drummer currently in a band who ISN'T exceptional. Other than the top 3-4 you have here, I really like Natsumi and Nagisa a lot! My only honorable mention here is Yuri, the current "other" drummer for Gacharic Spin. She seems to be able to hold her own!
top three are certainly the top 3 for me the order is different with 1 Akane 2 Tamu 3 junna Junna in 3 because although she has the best hands and feet of them all her style makes her the center of attention and drowns out het band mates, so she is probably the best "drummer" but she overwhelms the band she is in she is the star, maybe my opinion will change on her if she is in a band where her band mate are equal or better than her. between Tamu and Akane its down to taste, but for a bit of clarity Tamu sounds like Akane did before Akane's back problems caused her to change her drumming position and style to a more head up back straight posture, in her early days she was bent over the drums and played like animal from the muppets
BTW just to let you guys know after I'm done with this "first wave" of top 10 video charts I plan do a chapter 2 for all of them where I will put a bit less popular and more underground Japanese female musicians! I might even do non rock/metal charts in the future! as long you guys keep watching I will keep putting them out! 😁 (and btw thanks for Watching!)

Amazing group of Japanese rock metal drummers, Frank. But two things I should mention: I would have put Akane number one because, while she might not be as fast and as physically flashy, her writing and beat support for the song is unmatched, imo. Especially with the toms and kick. Some call it taste over LPM (licks per minute) -- although Akane does overplay the snare a bit at times. But it always fits perfectly. The second thing is, Senri Kawaguchi, who I consider among the best drummers in the world and plays in various rock / metal bands in addition to her fusion work, should actually be at the number one spot. Thx for making the list, Frank!

Haruna and Tamu. No competition... 😉
Akane an is and aiways will be my #1❤
Akane, Junna, Tamu. And end of discussion, I hate resistance.
Interesting selection. I like hard rock and metal but I do get a bit bored with too much double pedal. The other interesting thing about some of these live examples was how many of the bands had pretty dreadful singers. Jusy my opinion.
@★METALMESSIAH★ Saiki and Su-Metal are the only Japanese female vocalists I've heard that meet your standards. I liken them to watercolors and acrylics. Saiki has that little bit of rasp when she wants it, and Su is just so pure with never a break.
@@markyg236 Saiki struggles when it comes to enunciation though. Or are you able to understand her when she's singing in English?
HARUNA!!!!!!!!!
