- A look at the persistence it takes for a Bobbit worm to catch its meal...and for an underwater videographer to capture the action.
The images in this video are the result of four 1-hour night dives in Horseshoe Bay, Rinca Island, Indonesia. (January, 2014)

This really puts into perspective how much work and patience wild animals have to exude in order to live. It's no wonder how quickly captive animals can succumb to obesity due to how readily available food is to them. If I had to live like this I'd overindulge as often as I could regardless of the frequency.

Miguel Angel I know! It's awful!!! They don't get much bigger in diameter than a baseball or something, but with those nasty mandible things they could probably clamp onto you pretty good.
Luckily, I think they only live on the bottom of the deep ocean floor.

Can bobbit worms move around the ocean or are they just stuck to the sea floor?
They can move around if they have to, but I think they prefer to stay put. If they are pulled out of their burrow or it somehow gets destroyed, they just create a new one.
That bobbit worm is the Cyril figgis of bobbit worms.

why can't I find a bobbit worm vs mantis shrimp video?
I imagine it's because both are ambush predators. Mantis shrimp do tend to move around a bit more than the worm so I guess there is some opportunity for them to wander across a bobbit worm. But getting footage of that would be extremely difficult, since it takes literally hours hanging out over a bobbit worm hole to get these kinds of shots above, and mantis shrimps are not likely to approach anywhere close to you.
cbloo Its not like a pirahna vs mantis shrimp which is freshwater vs salt water and can never happen. Someone needs to set this fight up in an aquarium and make it happen

I doubt it. They've got a pretty strong pull for sure, but besides just the raw logistics of getting a good enough grip on you, pulling your foot down into a hole that is much smaller in diameter than you is probably a deal breaker.

do they have eyes? they move too fast to see.
They do have a pair of eyes. The worms are extremely responsive to changes in light, so even if they don't have good eyesight, they appear to interpret changes of light as something swimming above them and they lunge!
