This less then an hour movie accomplished what the 5 season series wanted to accomplish.
And while I liked the last 2 seasons better. Yes. This movie tackles the early Marinette better and reaches the end game in a nicer package. And the sequel setup is nice
Nah they didn’t even try to accomplish anything. Thomas just tried to shock viewers instead of giving an actually cohesive ending
well duh, its a movie, they had to wrap everything up really fast. The studio wont let the same happen for the show cause the show is to popular and they want it to keep going for as long as it can. The characters were nice, but we didn't really get to see them or know them very well aside from the basics that comprise their characters.

Actually seeing Hawk Moth/Gabriel get called out by Adrien for his abuse and then arrested for his crimes after being exposed and giving up the fight willingly is beyond satisfying.

Exactly and you can actually feel SOME sympathy for Gabriel bc he actually cares for his son and stops FOR him. Vs in the show where even Natalie lost hope in him as he’s chosen power over his son and his happiness countless times
It was... Until Adrien said "The less interested you are, the more they run after you" and "your boyfriend's too busy to lend a hand?". What an asshole, ladybug politely declines his feelings, now he blames her for needing the superhero he is? He's never shown that entitlement in the series.
I genuinely love the movie because they fixed marinette's character in my opinion. She seems relatable, reliable and REAL. No stalking, no mary sue writing, no popular and rich girl. Just a main character with social anxiety and ACTUAL problems finding and building her confidence. For me, Jeremy understood the assigment.
... Not because I wish Marinette was more like Peter Parker.
Fixed? she's still the same, they just cut out a bunch of stuff so her character could fit into the movie. In the movie, she didnt have trauma or suffered the burden of her hero duties and secrets, she was just a normal girl, which is fine but this means people technically don't have much to say against movie Marinette because they saw very little.
I mean, marinette in the movie didnt get traumatized by chloe which led to her weird stalking(she figured out overtime in the show that it wasn't a good thing and learned to give it up), aside from that, there wasnt really anything to say against marinette in the movie cause we didnt get to know her very well, where as we got really in depth with everyone in the show and got to see all their flaws.
We only found out that she was traumatized in recent seasons. Early on, she was still a stalker, was perfectly fine around Kim, etc.
It was only after Chloe's redemption arc was scrapped that they flushed out Marinette's character.
there is a lot of misinformation online. Chloe never had a redemption, people just misinterpreted what happened, multiple people from the show even explained there was never one planned, even the colorist of the show had to say it in an interview called "Feri Gonzalez interview part 2: Marinette forgives Chloe". What happened to Marinette with Chloe was not an excuse, it was just to tell us what happened and she learned it wasnt a good thing to do, but that experience was so bad that she blocked it out of her mind. The show expressed that Marinette really was affected by kim as she not only did not choose him to be a miraculous holder(Fu chose him) but she also tried to avoid anyone who had a similar sense of humor like Kim's, which is why she was always upset by Cat Noir's sense of humor at times.

She was about to have a redemption arc but she didn't because the writers decided against it for whatever reason. And since chronologically speaking, we saw the results first of Chloe bullying Marinette, what I said before still applies.
At the time that the first few seasons were written, they probably didn't have a reason for Marinette's behavior. Most of the time writers are winging it and they are allowed to change their minds of course. But it's better for them to not alter too much to make the story flow better
The movie literally accomplished stuff that the show didn't. They didn't make Marinette creepy, Adrien wasn't sidelined to put Marinette in the spotlight, and their identities were revealed instead of the bullshit excuses that Astruc uses. The only thing I don't like is how they ruined my boy Plagg, and the fact they didn't let Christina Vee sing her own songs, but apart from those things, I think the movie turned out great!

dude, you are severely misinformed and dont understand the story. The movie had to wrap everything up really fast, but the studio wont let the same happen for the show cause the show is to popular and they want it to keep going for as long as it can, its not Thomas's call to keep the show going, its Zag, Zag owns the show and wants it to keep going for as long as possible because it's earning big profit. The show focus's a little more on Marinette because she is the one with the bigger burden to carry rather than Cat noir. And we already know that her weird stalking thing was because she believed it was her best solution to prevent herself from being hurt after what Chloe did to her with Kim, but Marinette learned over time that it wasn't a good solution or a good thing to keep going, so she learned to acknowledge it and give it up over time.
They gave Tikki a reality-bending musical number but Plagg’s introduction was a cloud of green gas. Unbelievable.
Adrien was 100% sidelined. We don’t even get to see him and plag talk for the first time before he turns into chat noir
@@starlight8904 no amount of pre-planning will ever convince me that Marinette's reason for that stalking was thought out in the beginning, If I remember, the reason they gave was because Keith (? Gorrilla guy idk his name) was pretending to date her because Chole said so? You don't keep all of the information of the guy you like down to the hour of stuff he does because of that. Making her self-concious about her crush on Adrien and doing some digging on, I can understand. We should've seen them become good friends while her crush was developing and gain a trust in him! Because if that really affected her, she would've had the same info on her other love interest. I haven't seen season 4 and 5, so its good to hear she gave up but that doesn't mean we can ignore the fact that she should be doing jail time lmao.
I liked how they made Nooroo's power more intimidating when it's used for evil here. In the show you would have to have the victims either agree or give up. In the movie it's just like "Nope. Forceful change. You get no chance to fight back,"
In the show it's very hard to give up,so they mostly get akumatized easily.

I dislike this, the tlotr like whispering, and the French dub with Nooroo saying "master, it's urgent to stop. If you keep going, the butterfly will take your heart forever". The miraculous of the butterfly isn't inherently evil, it's not meant to corrupt a heart... Anger and sadness aren't inherently bad feelings either, it can be useful... The movie really made the miraculouses like butterfly: evil, keep it away from people and lb/c: good, give it to heroes.
It's still better than the show. The movie took an hour and a half to give us the reveal that 5 seasons couldn’t. It’s a shame they ruined Plagg, had too many songs and they wouldn’t let Marinette’s Va sing.

I honestly prefer how Gabriel was handled here, while a bit fast, I liked how they showed his descent by going from a strict overconfident guy to a desperate mess (plus Adrian talking back to his father as a consequence of his obsession, chef kiss, I’ll take that anytime over mister "yes father" from the series) plus how his power trip instantly ends when he realizes that he is beating up his son and has been sending him killers for months, instead of just going "oh I can use that, no pain no gain boy".
I feel like the Gabriel change from evil to good was so rushed like a snap of fingers..
@@mladybug6620well it makes sense when you consider that it’s literally HIS son. He almost killed HIS son, the only one he has left since his wife’s death. Everything he was doing in the movie was yo make their family whole again. But in the movie you can actually see him try to keep his son out of danger (like telling him to get out of the fairgrounds) and actually reflecting a bit when Adrien yells at him vs in the show where he just silenced Adrien and does what he wants

In the movie you can see that he lost himself in grief vs in the show he went from grieving to be getting more desperate and obsessed with the miraculous
@@lunarialoonaticwell, in the show he did find out his identity in an alternate future and didn't stop, and in season 5 he had one occasion to simply change the past and make nothing, even his wife's death, happen... But instead he chose to run after Ladybug for a petty revenge. He was far gone and that's just what hatred does to someone.
This movie feels like a love letter to miraculous fans whose stayed with the show since the beginning. They gave Gabriel the story we all wanted, I think act 1 is more well paced then act 2, and they should of showed more of Adrien since it did focus more on Marinette and arch of becoming more confident, so the impact at the end didn't feel as strong
Yeah they had the problem of being forced into a small space but they did the best with what they had.
They should make a season based on this to flesh everyone and everything out

I think the thing with plagg and the farting in this movie was to show how in the beginning he was super immature and in it for drama like s1 plagg, and then over time his character has more growth which we can kinda see when he snaps Adrien out of HIS drama
i wish they would’ve showed how adrien fell in love with marinette not just because she was ladybug. we got to see ladybug falling for cat noir and adrien and we saw cat noir falling for ladybug but the only reason adrien loved marinette was bc she was ladybug? like that is the only serious criticism i have for the movie because even the show handles that part better. throughout the show you can see LB showing slight hints of having feelings for CN and adrien very clearly has feeling for mari… the movie just didn’t have that. i’m rambling now but i could talk about that for so long it makes me so upset
I love that they gave Gabriel a "I'm killing my boy" moment, like Dracula had in Castlevania, and showing his physical degradation as he continues to push his health to the side in favor of continuously attempting to steal the Miraculous was a nice touch. I really hope a sequel is made for the movie, because it easily surpasses the show.

In all honesty, this movie was everything I wanted to see from the show in it's late stages. Real tension between LB and CN as a result of the love square, realistic charters and relationships, Gabe akumatizing actually bad people who want to do bad things, and most importantly, ADDRESSING THE CONFLICT YOU'VE BUILT UP FOR 5 SEASONS.
The bare bones story works well since you can leave out the messier plot-lines if they don't get another movie (the Sentimonster plot, the alternate love interest, other heroes)
the songs started out really weak and awkward, but got really good towards the end, and I mean Disney level
Long haired Gabe is the definition of hysteria, HOW HIGH WAS WHOEVER CAME UP WITH THAT ?!?!
and the reveal, MY GOD THE REVEAL, it actually retroactively makes the show worse knowing how easily we could have gotten this

@@xxcameliausually, in my experience, things generally sound better not in your own language lol I love the French dub, but I’m not French. I usually dislike the English dub due to cringe acting but the movie actually had really good acting, so that was nice.

It's a shame that they only focused on Adrienette and LadyNoir. They did an AMAZING job with the latter, but I would have loved to see some Ladrien and Marichat scenes as well. By not showing half of the love square, they're missing out on some prime real estate!

it's logical for Marinette to be a stalker after what Kim did to her but not an excuse obviously. Season 5 was really a huge lore dump and finalyl got what we wanted from the show. Best season if you are patient and watch it in order but that library meeting is so cute. Reminds me of that 1 Taylor Swift song in the library and the library is also my favourite place to be in. It would be so cool to actually meet future husband in a library in that way
Wdym Chloe isnt more likable? In the show they absolutely throw her to the trash,even in newer seasons they keep making Chloe more unlikable. In the show,shes much more tolerable,and not too violent to Marinette and Sabrina
And Sabrina is shown to actively thwart Chloe and help Marinette when she can. She's in a tough situation, being pulled different ways by different loyalties, but at least she's got more of a spine than series Sabrina.

I loved how violent it was because the series is goofy and doesn't ever take it that far and enjoyed how they had two version of the theme song in it.

This movie is like when a comic book adaptation addresses the parts that are bad and lasts for too long because the comic has to go on and actually makes a great storyline from not having to stretch out a story. Miraculous Ladybug to me should've lasted 60+ episodes AT ITS MOST

agree 100%. as much as i love rewatching miraculous ladybug because it’s at this point just a good show for me to like throw on while i’m doing my makeup or making food because i’ve seen it so many times and just want something to watch, 90% of the show is filler and the same episode over and over again but with a different villain. no real plot progression until like mid season 3. from the bottom of my heart i love this show, but i also hate it soooooo much
@@lowkeyykiraa honestly I like the occasional filler, but it does get repetitive slightly. The filler break up all the heavy drama so you can get an actual breather from the back to back lore/plot drops. Heck, the filler episodes of the show (like season 1 & 2) are some of my favorites, while I'm more inclined to skip and wait on watching the later seasons because of lack there of. Of course, filler only works when it's done right
There may be flaws, but I love how this movie did better than the show itself.

I like how in the movie they act kinda more like teenagers like how ladybug and cat noir tease each other by calling each other names like watermelon and insane and how Adrien always has ear buds in all the time like an actual teenager unlike the show how there more focus on love and being super heroes like I know that's important but there still kids so I like that the movie includes that

I honestly prefer the movie. Of course, as a movie, it needs more run tine to compare to a show that’s been dragging its feet. I think if the show could go back and cut the fat it’d be infinitely better. Maybe I’m just done with exploring all the ways they can’t be together and am ready for exploring all the ways they can end up & stay together.

The first dealing with Adrien and Marinette lives before becoming Ladybug and Chat Noir up till becoming fully fledged superheroes, focusing more on Mari, and the second more on their conquests and eventual defeat of Hawkmoth, focusing more on Adrien.

I just appreciate that they got rid of Marinette stalking. It wasn't cute, and it wasn't harmless just because it was a girl. It's always really weirded me out how people act like really toxic and/or dangerous behavior is somehow okay, cute, romantic, or not that bad when a girl does it.
Ngl the way they designed and wrote Chloe here makes me wish for the 2nd movie with her getting the Bee Miraculous. Layla is canonically next main villain after Gabe so mean girl vs "domesticated" mean girl dynamic would be so good + it's what fans always wanted to see her getting a proper redemption arc without being erased for Astruc's ego and Layla finally doing something. Hell even at the end of this movie you can see worried Chloe helping Sabrina stand up she would never do this in the main series, they're totally setting her up (i'm delusional).
And still better than whatever Astruc slapped together in 9 years.
As someone who’s vaguely seen the show via Twitter clips, I liked how the movie showed the main points while hinting to more in the background (Luka in the school). Anyways I’m glad they got together in the end so I don’t have to watch 5 seasons of the show runner edging the audience lol
Green/purple as villain colours probably comes from comics where red, yellow, and blue are "heroic" colour schemes, with green and purple (and orange) being their opposites on the colour wheel to contrast.
There was a lot of jump cuts but they had to cram so much into this hour and thirty minute movie. So I personally think they did a really good job overall, and I really liked that this was more of a romantic movie. Also I Ioved all the songs, and Marinette’s singing voice didn’t bother me that much because it was so good! I got used to it pretty quickly. And I just kinda thought of it as her inner voice coming out in song, because she’s supposed to be super shy and self conscious on the outside. This is a 10/10 for me, and it honestly made me not want to keep watching the show after seeing everything I wanted to see. I stopped watching the show a while ago, because i was sick of the will they won’t they trope the writers have been doing for years. The only thing I want is a sequel! And possibly a whole trilogy if we’re lucky.
I think if they made the time be longer it could stretch out the pacing like for Spiderverse. However I understand that they didn’t want people to not watch it for the run time
@@littlesparrow303tbh I think it was less about run time and more about the fear of doing too much or not enough in a longer time frame. This movie felt very safe and stuck pretty close to source material, while giving the original mlb fans what they wanted (reveal, ladynoir+ adrionette, hawkmoth defeat). I think they could have made it longer and I’m willing to bet there’s a lot of deleted scenes

Yeah, I do wish they used the actual VA but it was good so I wasn't that bothered. I stopped watching since after season 3 and this movie was satisfying enough to not bother with the show anymore.
the movie was ok, but its understandable since they had to be quick about it. The characters were overall the same, but they had to cut down on a lot of their character traits and change a few things to save time. In the movie, Marinette was still a weird self conscious girl, but she did not have the same weight of responsibilities and traumatic experiences as her show counterpart. Adrien was still a sweet guy who cared for others while struggling with his fathers distance and the loss of his mom, but he had his freedom and did not grow up with the same restrictions and modeling job as his show counterpart. Movie Gabriel genuinely still cared for his family and stopped the moment he found out Cat Noir was Adrien, while his show counterpart went insane and became corrupted by his obsession and power.
My major concerns with the movie were in the French version: when Gabriel transforms for the second time, Nooroo tells him "Master, it's urgent to stop. If you keep going, the butterfly will take your heart forever!" and the whisperings of the miraculous of the butterfly that do kind of like the TLOTR ring... The butterfly is not inherently evil and Gabriel's "corruption" only comes from himself and how he decided to act on his grief.
Also Adrien after being rejected and being called on his miraculous, says "the less you care about people, the more they need you", which is not at all how his character is in the series (and also doesn't make sense with the situation)

As soon as I watched this movie. I knew....that it felt like a fanfiction. Cause MLB aint gonna stop until the company can milk as much money as possible. Happy Ending with the characters knowing each other's identity? That'll probably happen after 10 years. I BET that there is a fanfic that is like this movie.

Honestly, I couldn't get into Miraculous Ladybug because of the cringeworthy way Marinette acts around Adrian, but this movie's got me intrigued now. The textures and hair physics are also to DIE for.

Oh also in terms of blonde villains, how can we forget Emperor Belos? Granted his hair turns blonde when it was originally brown, but I feel it still counts. That or Jareth from Labyrinth.
I remember barely even getting that far in the film before I was like "wow, these are genuinely some of my favorite cartoony-human designs ever. The show already had pretty good designs, but it felt kinda jarring at times. The movie managed to make it feel more real and grounded in a way that elevates it dramatically, and ties it all together.

Edit: I do agree the climax was fast paced and I think it's only because of the fact it's a movie. Had they been able to extend it just a bit or made it like a 3-4 episode special, it might have felt like perfect.
But as is, I adore it greatly and it really hit me that some of the best episodes of the show tended to be directed or written by Jeremy. I think he understood the potential for the series and really went into it for the movie.
(Also a God tier ending compared to the show.)

SUPPOSEDLY, the only reason Vee did not sing for Marinette in the movie DESPITE HAVING SUNG FOR MARI IN THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL EPISODE is because Zag had already promised Lou (the French speaking/singing voice for Mari) she could sing for Mari in the English dub and Vee had agreed to it as well. But wow. YIKES, it does not match Vee's speaking voice at all and it is JARRING.
I understand them giving Adrien a different singing VA because his dub speaking VA, Bryce Papenbrooke, apparently doesn't sing well enough, and.. yeah. I agree in a way lmao Papenbrooke sings for CN/Adrien in the Christmas special episode and even for Felix in one of the season 5 episodes (Emotion, I think?) and while he's not AMAZING, he's not terrible. But.. he's not good enough for a movie level performance imo so I get him. BUT NOT VEE!!! GIVE US VEE FOR MARINETTE AGAIN!!!
I think her voice is lovely and tbh idk why people are calling it ugly. I agree that it doesn’t match Marionette but I think people are being a bit dramatic lol. The only original VA who sang was Hawk Moth

BUT what I AM saying is Lou’s voice matches so horribly with marionette’s speaking voice in the dub that it seems to clearly jar a LOT of people- especially those who already know the show, and have heard Marinette sing before (with Vee as her singer). Maybe for people who’ve never seen the show or know very little detail about it all wouldn’t care but it definitely seems like a lot of the fans have noticed and don’t like it lol. Them not liking it, though, doesn’t mean we’re finding Lou’s voice ugly.
Lou is NOT the French speaking voice for Marinette. That's Anouck Hautbois and they sound very obviously different from each other. Even without the movie, you can spot the difference right away with "The Wall Between Us" VS Marinette's actual speaking voice (also the Christmas special song). For some reason the French theme song keeps getting someone with a deep voice to sing as Marinette even though it contrasts with her higher-pitched monologue at the start.
Also makes me wonder why the Miraculous team really just loves having Lou. She's been consistent as Marinette's singer for the French theme from S2 onwards, "The Wall Between Us" and the movie. Meanwhile Chat Noir's singer (not VA) goes from Noam Keniel to Lenni and now to Drew. It's also funny because Noam and Drew sound close to CN's French VA Benjamin Bollin, and Bryce Papenbrook at least doesn't sound that far off from him..... then there's Marilyn (S1 French theme) and Lou who sound much deeper than Anouck and Vee. Even Lenni still sounds closer to his character than Marinette's singers.
On a very irrelevant side note, I was really sad Noam couldn't have more songs like Lou. He's the one who created the theme song and hearing his part just _did things to me_ that the other CN voices didn't. Benjamin's singing skills in the show is like Bryce- not amazing and not terrible. Crazy to learn that Noam's around 60 years old and sounds like a teen with gosh darn good vocals. I'm actually content with Drew because he's also a professional singer and does sound close to Benjamin/Noam... and boi does it feel good to finally hear a good ol French Chat Noir singing amazingly again and especially hear him IN ENGLISH.

My bad. I kept seeing basically everywhere that Lou was the French VA for Marinette. Am I correct to say that Lou only SINGS for Mari in the movie, then, in French? I don’t watch subtitled media for the most part because I’m half blind and can’t speed read lol so I’ve never watched LB in French, only English! :3

blonde haired villains, oh the goblin king from labyrinth comes to mind, along with Dr. Blight from captain planet. Hate the entire blonde hair equals good thing, reminds me of the bs they pulled at the end of World of winx s2 with tinker bell when the mermaids only saw her as good once her hair was back to being blonde.
My petpeeves with the movie are
1. Noroo is not an evil kwami, so the butterfly miraculous isn't evil either so idk why the gaurdian doesn't know it can be used for good and puts it in such a bad light
2. How they dare robb us of an kiss at the end of the movie
3. Why did Christina Vee not get to sing? She is an amazing singer and it's a very jaring transition between voice actors which was totally unessisary she she can sing, and very good at that!

As a French who watched the movie in French dub, we were all also shocked to see the difference between Lou's voice (Mari's singer) and Anouck Hautbois (Mari's va). Like in English, Anouck has a higher voice than Lou, and as much as Lou is a great singer, her voice just doesn't fit Mari in any way. And as in English, Anouck can also sing, although I think Christina Vee has more experience and knowledge than her in that domain haha. But they just had to put her everywhere as the star child I guess since season 2 for whatever reason, like in openings, musics, movie...

As someone who watched the filler episodes with a friend in college, and we’re now approaching our 30s… this proper story was great. Could have used a longer runtime since this is a Netflix release to really flesh things out… but otherwise it’s perfect.

Technically Let It Go does advance the plot because Elsa makes Olaf in the beginning of the song before making the castle that Olaf leads Anna and Christoph to. If Let It Go never happened Elsa wouldn't have made Olaf who wouldn't be able to take Anna to her sister and the castle wouldn't have been made for the set piece it ended up being for Elsa's capture sequence with Hans.
The songs were great in my opinion but the changes in the timeline and pacing. The pacing was too fast. I will say that making marinette less obsessed really worked for her and I like that Adrien listens to Careless Whisperer

This movie was so good that I can't even go back to the original series! Man, I actually sympathize with Marinette. Not to mention how good the animation looks! Also, at 12:57 My exact reaction. 😂 Glad I'm not the only one who agrees. Although I will agree, I'm not that big of a fan of Let It Go. But Spider Verse!? Man, I loved that soundtrack
It is actually a different universe and not at all connected to the show. The original creator took over Thomas Astruc's role (for the movie) I think and did his own version with a mostly whole new crew aside from the voice actors. In my opinion, with that in mind, it's better than the show. It is a bit rushed though. But that was the main problem. If they cut out the musical bits they probably could have had more time. I don't think it needed to be a musical as much as I love musicals. And yeah, Mari's singing voice is good but does not match Christina's voice at all. I got used to it over time but at the start it was jarring.
