You really do some thorough research to tell these stories! It’s amazing how much history there is in all of these Appalachian towns 🤯 I loved all of the visuals, music, and of course your gift of storytelling. Outstanding work, as always, Josh!! 👏🏼👏🏼🤎
I enjoy how you not only highlight your videos with such rich history but with your music choices, drone footage and capturing small details of the town. It's amazing you have already taken us on this many journeys with you and given us so much to be proud of in these great mountains. Keep them coming!
Thank you, Josh, for another interesting and enjoyable visit to a community in Appalachia. I enjoy the musical selections you offer with the videos. Maybe your (eventual) marketing team will someday suggest production of an album featuring these selections. :)
I'm from Brazil and I really admire your videos telling stories and attractions of small towns in your country. congratulations for the work God bless.
I grew up just across the stateline in Lynn Garden, Tennessee. We used to ride our bicycles over to Weber City during the summer and swim in the Holston River near the old Sundown Drive-in Theater. Seems like forever ago... Very fond memories of that area. Thanks, RT
Never knew this history about Gate City! I love the time and research you do on these little towns with such big history most have forgotten about. Thanks for another great video!!! Loving the music and the camera work is stunning!!!
Great content, i was just visiting the Tri-Cities area and Gate City and Weber City in November of 22 looking to try and figure out My family's place in the history of the Carter and Meade family. it is proving a little difficult but I did find some stuff out and even found a book my mother had of the Early Carters in Scott County Virginia. as well as my mothers High school yearbook from Hilton High School in 1951 when she graduated. So thank you for this video it really helped me.
Home Sweet Home. I just came across your video and appreciate the respect shown to my original home town. You definitely have a new Subscriber. Awesome series!
By golly, I've been there. Once visiting the tri cities and heading north to Ohio (a long time ago) we went through Gate City on the way. My granddaughter is going to Mary Baldwin in Staunton and I'm anxious to root around and have been keeping track of some neat places to see. Keep it going Josh!
I watched anxiously hoping for a Mac McClung mention, Gate City's most famous citizen: last weekend's 2023 NBA Slam Dunk Champion; Virginia's all-time high school leading scorer (surpassing Allen Iverson). Check out his highlights. Peace man!
I did see he was from there, but didn't mention him. Sometimes I'll reference present notable individuals, but this time I simply did not. Perhaps I should have. Thanks for bringing it up, appreciate you watching!
@@MountainRoots It depends what you like. The countryside is beautiful, but the Lake District in North West England is breathtaking. Highlands of Scotland is barren but is pretty. Britain is varied. There are historical towns such as Canterbury in SouthEast England that are worth a visit. There is Portsmouth on the Southcoast if you are interested in naval history. Cornwall in South West England is lovely. There is aura about the place. London is very expensive, busy and multicultural. Snowdonia in Wales is ok.
You're welcome, no it's pronounced like "binge" as in "binge watch". At least that's what I gathered from folks I know who have that same last name. Thanks for watching!

@tinyguitars appreciate it! Working on yours this week 😊
I graduated from Gate City High School in 1986. I now reside in Kingsport, Tn. which is only about 6 miles from Gate City. Thanks for the video!

Thanks!
Thank you so much!

LOVE your videos of SW VA ♥ They bring back good memories!
Thank for making ALL the videos you do. I watch them all. You give my husband and I a lot to research for a mountain town to retire to.
You're very welcome, hope they help you find your mountain home! 😊
I hope duffield is next! Scott county has some amazing history you just gotta dig for it!

Is that a request for an interview I hear? 😉

Oh wow, right on I'm glad it helped. Good luck with your research!
Apparently I've been here. I drove US 23 from from Asheville NC back to Ohio. Hates that drive but loved the small towns along 23.
Many great towns along the way!

Don’t say “by golly”

I saw Gate City and came here to mention that isn't this where Mac is from? Wearing that Gate City jersey in the dunk contest was a great tribute
Great Video! - best wishes from the UK
Thank you! What part of the UK?
@@MountainRoots Southeast England -
@Robert Carter I wish to visit one day, would you recommend that area?

@@robertcarter6963 I would love to see most all of those, especially Scotland!
Can you come to my state and make videos like this about our towns? That was great!
And what state might that be?
When did you film this? Looks prety warm out
Warm spell in February 2023.
Thanks for the video. But, Benge said binge? Thought it was pronounced like ben-gay.
