"This is different and original." 2 things Hollywood definitely needs. You're on the path, my brother.
Thank you so much for your insight into the business. Seeing another black man on the same journey empowers me. Keep up the great work. You've put a lot of things in perspective for me. Go Jay! Go!
Good luck brother on all your future projects. 🤞🏼😉
Much appreciated! 🙏🏾
Keep up the great work, brotha!
Hello Jay Fingers! I've been watching your videos and really like them. I'd also like to read Potter's Hill. Where to rustle it up?
wow you're on your way jay.
Ha! Thanks. Hopefully. 🙏🏾
In the novel, I knew what was going on from the beginning. But I think that comes from personal experience. I like the subtleties in the book.
I like Swan. I wanted to know more about him.
How do you protect your screenplay or idea from someone stealing it?
You may disown me for this comparison. Which please understand the uniqueness of what I am saying. As a pilot I see Guestlist as a stylistic combination of She’s Gotta Have It (series) and Insecure. I see this as an HBO or Netflix Series. That would account for the continuous development of plot. The more episodes you watch, the more…”the plot thickens”. Sounds like great multiple seasons of television to me. Two…maybe three seasons tops. We got movies to make so that’s all we have time for.
Do you think one should get their script copy written or registered with the WGA before sending it to companies like WeScreenplay?
It's not necessary. While it's always a good idea to protect your script, you don't need to worry about reputable services such as WeScreenplay or the Black List "stealing" it or anything like that.
@@JayFingers Thank you for the speedy reply. Your experiences are a huge help to those of us early in this journey of writing.
so do you think it would be a good move to submit multiple scripts at once? You know to show that you're not a one-trick pony? i'll use them
Since we're talking about coverage services, sure, you could submit multiple if you want. I don't see the harm in that. But once you start submitting to managers, producers, agents, etc., you only want to submit one script at a time - make sure it's your best one! ✊🏾
Hi, I appreciate your vids but just FYI: your laugh might be hurting you, actually. Only because it reads as an affectation. I'm sure you've heard it before. Just know that it's definitely a thing. It's almost like you putting your arm out straight saying "go no further. you shall not pass. I will not be more genuine than what you're already getting." Whether the laugh is a shield of sorts... or not... either way - the effect is the same. It reads as disingenuous.
Hey there. I believe this to be the case too. Although, I'm only reading into it because my brother has 'tells" when he's annoyed by something but tries to play it off like it doesn't bother him. It feels like the criticism Jay got really bothered him. Which I can get since I've also felt a bit attacked when my scripts get reviewed. Especially if you've written something personal and they attack that specific part of it. But yeah, I enjoy Jay's videos and his journey as a screenwriter, but can't help being annoyed by his laugh. lol
Edit: It's like that meme I saw on TikTok. "Why does this anger me?" And that's what I feel when Jay laughs. lmao
