Joe: You wanna know who else is struggling? Aside from most screenwriters you’ve heard of who aren’t rich - Nearly every single agent in Hollywood “The Gatekeepers.” Even after they have multiple hits under their belts. The job is to wake up every day and try to sell writers to people (studios/streamers) who’d prefer to make movies without screenwriters. As such, agents hear “No” more than anyone in Hollywood. How do I know this to be fact [the struggle is real], because I was married to an agent for 20 years. There’s a saying “If you’re failing 99% of the time in Hollywood, congrats, you’re a millionaire.”

I can totally relate to the perfectionist thing. Good for you for getting out a first draft. That's what I'm working toward; not worrying about how "bad" the first draft is and just get it on paper. Keep at it!

Just discovered I too have sleep apnea. It's crazy that the body can 'forget' to breathe during sleep.
The most interesting thing about it is that my doctor told me there is a strong correlation between my crazy dreams and the apnea. 🤔
I think the Nicholl's restricted folks to one script last year as well. Thanks for the update! You have written both novels and scripts -- why did you shift to screenwriting? It seems like you have more control over a novel. I've written 5 scripts -- gotten no interest... So I think I'm going to shift to just novels. Cheers!
You absolutely have more control over a novel. I feel like the barrier to entry isn’t as high, you’re allowed more freedom to experiment, and it’s easier to cultivate an audience. But as far as screenwriting, for me, that has *always* been the dream, ever since I was a kid. So that’s why I’m still pursuing it. 😆 Thanks for commenting, and I hope you find success in the shift to novels. Keep me updated! 🙌🏾
