Hi CC, I always do my best to keep an open mind with music videos and songs posted that have no visuals...Being someone who loves music, I can't help but pay attention to the lyrics, the musicianship, the graphics, and of course the beat. I always ask myself is there a message in what I am hearing and/or what are the messages being sent in what I am seeing when I watch a music video??? The message(s) in this video, in my humble opinion, was more negative than positive. It had a lot of pagan symbolisms, the statue looked like an idol, the metal fangs did not look becoming on these young ladies but rather looked more demonic, like something out of a horror movie. The lyrics & the visuals of "I just woke up, don't get under my skin" seemed to give the impression that these young ladies would be ready to attack you like a wolf if one did what they were saying not to do; in other words, in my humble opinion, it makes them look & sound somewhat "thuggish." Although I watched it until the end, needless to say, it was a difficult viewing for me. I respect your opinion, but I emphatically disagree with you. The song is actually very empowering, definitely NOT negative, and far from "thuggish." The lyrics speak to the ignorant criticisms hurled at them from haters, especially from within their music community. They instead tout their work ethic, how it sets them apart, and how it made them as well as their fans the better for it. Indeed their skills have dramatically increased since debuting a mere couple years ago, and it shows here! Many...MANY people, especially fans of hip hop, are catching on, are impressed with their delivery, and have "Woke Up" to it. "Don't get under my skin..." isn't an attack for not going along with what they say, but rather a warning to those that bully. Lastly, the symbolism and costumes, pagan or whatever, aren't demonic, but instead, a love letter to the fans...it's just art and depth and if you're not a true fan of the artist...well unfortunately you just will not understand it, and dismiss it as just yet another humble opinion.
