  • Dragged another sled into the shop for some service. Basically an enticer with a fancy name, I guess Yamaha was trying to church things up? Anyways, can definitely see why these are so popular fun little sleds!

    My tank also leaked in the same spot on my 1981. I did the same repair as well just removed the line and plugged it. Apparently a common issue!

    Permatex makes a gas tank repair kit, works like a fiberglass patch super sticky stuff. I use it on my 91 jag when the tank twists off the fillerneck. It's not a perfect repair but it works for a season. I've learned to not fill that tank over 7/8 full.

      Good to know, I've tried some of the stuff years ago that was supposedly gas proof, but it never seemed to hold up well.

    Looking froward to seeing how the Excel III runs for you this winter.

    What was the trick with the starter ? Was it Just a couple "light tunks" with the dead blow? I am having the same issue with my excel III

      Don't think I ever did get the starter fully functional yet

    What size were the inner dimensions for the different fuel lines you used?

      @toocheaptosmoke  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Believe it was 1/4" and 3/16 if there was a smaller one

    How did you remove the choke cable from the inside of the carb?

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After it soaked, you can use a flat screw driver to first tap the plunger a bit deeper to try and break it free, then carefully try to start twisting the plunger to work it free. Gotta go easy though or the "ears" on the plunger will spread apart and get ruined.

    What's the float setting for these carbs?

    • @toocheaptosmoke
      @toocheaptosmoke  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can't remember for sure, but a good rule of thumb for most carbs is for the float to sit flat/parallel with the carb body when you hold it upside down with the bowl off.

    Would be interested to see if you do anything with the electric start. taking it off etc...

      Hoping to get the e start functional eventually, need to get a battery though. Sled starts pretty easily though.

    where do you live man? you could probably make a few bucks hustling these old two strokes in NWT or nunavut. 4 strokes in subarctic canada can be hard to start... can't imagine coping in like iqualiuit without a block heater for your sled.

      Bit too far away for that, unless fuel gets REALLY cheap, haha. Down in the states.
