    Mayor Note: At the start of the video I did reference some of the recent CS2 'hoo ha' and I want to make a disclaimer that I fully support all of these creators, in fact a lot of them are my absolute favourites! I think all the concerns they are raising are genuine and valid, and all contribute to wanting to create a better game experience for us all. Go and check them out if you haven't already!

    SimCity 2013's big issue apart from the launch was the tiny map, had the map been larger I think it'd have done a lot better. I also think the visuals of SimCity 2013 are stunning, even today over a decade later.

      There are actually some of the original Concepts of the Game floating around in the Depths of the Internet that show old Concepts for Sim City that have the whole Regions as playable Maps. The Issue just was that this was way too complex at the Time, the average PC couldn't handle such a Game and they had to cut back massively to make it work. There were also multiple DLCs planned, but after the Game's disasterous Launch, EA simply abandoned the Project.

    And also, did anyone notice that CS2 is taking some elements from simcity into the game? Like land value, mining industries. I'm cool with it and i'll be happy if i can see the reincarnation of simcity 2013 in as CS2 in the future😅

    Anything is better than cs2 at this point. I cant have a city of more than 60k people without the sim speed plummeting. And I have a ryzen 7 5800x, it is not the last of the line. When i was 14 i discovered simcity 2013, and it got me started on city managers. It was so cool seeing many people running around without slowdowns. Even if the game only simulates like 600 Sims at max (i think, but i remember they were a looow number) it has a very cool appeal. I love the graphics, and the maps don't bother me, because there is interaction between cities. it gives you a headache to manage the little space you have, and in the end with the cities of tomorrow dlc and the mega towers, you gotta have those big skyscrapers towering over the city. It was a blast, and I am still playing it 10 years later.

    I spent far more time on SimCity5 than on Cities Skylines. And even today, while owning both Cities Skylines 1 and 2, I play it time to time. Its the combination of graphics, music, progression, management and details (like firefighters fighting fires). In retrospect, liked the challange of small plots much more than building large cities.

    I think it would be funny if EA went had someone turn Simcity 2013 into Simcity 5 and they gave it away for those who already had Simcity 2013. If they made Simcity 5 and apologized about Simcity 2013 they might be able to win some fans back.

It is a great way to visually feel like you did something seeing your city hall expand and your residence. While, both a city hall and residence was in CS1 it wasn't the hall from 2013 as far as function.

    It just sucked how little space I could use with the small square I was given and, if I did build a region to expand, the lag time between cities was just terrible. I'd definitely be here for a SimCity2013-2 for sure. Nice video 🫡

    I might sound strange, but I loved SC2013. I just hated the small size to work with. I did actually at one point had each city doing something helping each other out which was fun. I might go play SC2013 now. One of the big points about it was far less wasted space. CS and CS2 both have an issue with it not setting up lots right that make any sense. The road goes in a square and yet the area isn't a perfect set of squares. I do prefer the economy in CS1 and 2, but I still find means to make money in SC2013. I really wish EA would have decided to try to compete. They just rolled over and died when facing Paradox. Now Paradox is going for the Sims. EA really is a shadow of what it used to be. It made such great games and now I find most of their games feels just okay in quality. DA:Origins great, but now I don't have a ton of hope with them. Each game of the time EA was at least trying to do stuff to make things better, but around the Sims 4 EA just stopped trying. It was like everything was a step back from what it used to be.

    Simcity 2013 has great gameplay. The game was simply ruined by how many people couldn't play it the first week of release since it was online only and the sevrers were full, and the second part was the small city sizes. • @gabrielkline2581

      Unfortunately not. For performance reasons, the land you see outside of the city border is largely just a facade. Modders have unlocked the ability to place roads outside of the maps, and even buildings, but it's a very wonky process and it wont behave like inside of the city borders (things like trees will stay where they are, regardless of placing roads or buildings)

With a few mods this is a truly fantastic game, I only ever play offline but I guess the multiplayer side has its fun too.

    As much as SimCity has been mocked, IMO it only ever had two actual issues: mandatory internet connection at launch and small maps. The first one specially was an issue with the absolutely disastrous server state at launch (and eventually it was actually fixed) and the second was seemingly en route to be fixed (for free surprisingly). People don't really remember, but other than these things (and EA's lack of desire of keeping the franchise), OG CS1 actually had surprisingly less than SimCity 2013!
    I do miss the region aspect of the games, not because of multiplayer but because of single player as well! The fact that the game kinda tells me "hey this city is good for one thing only, if you want to do something else, you'll have to build another city" was not as much of a restriction as it was an invitation to exploration and to not worry about other features at that moment.

    Simcity should definitely make a new game. The only good thing Cities Skylines did was its mod support. When you remove the mods, cities skylines turns into a huge void. They could not make good use of the gap left by Simcity in their second game. I hope simcity continues and brings competition. Simcity was a game series with its own style and ambiance. I played this quite a bit a year or two ago. I also liked the Global Market. How you can affect the price of goods globally sending it higher or lower for everyone depending on how much you create and send out. If you created and stockpiled a huge amount of (whatever) and then released it on the market, the price would drop after awhile. (due to an abundance of it.) You'd could crash the price. So part of the game was also, how fast could you release all of your goods before that happened. Super fast to get paid. And also so fast you'd crash it. So you'd have to have good shipping (not by truck, that was waaay too slow). You could have huge reserves of a several different things and start making money simply by trading.
    Then the global market went offline and... booooooo. No more fun.
    There was also some kind of crime building. I forget what it was called. But all the gangsters (?) lived there. They would visit other cities. lol. If you clicked on the building, it would trigger them in your city and to visit other cities. (so fun for other mayors. /s Hope their police force was ready!)

SC2013 has really nice progression, multiplayer could be better but I liked that you can see other peoples creations, having to balance worker wealth levels to fill jobs is cool, if you let crime run wild the city visibly deteriorates with graffiti on buildings. I would say the simulation aspects are much better than either CS games.
    I think a lot of the CS2 drama will be quelled when they finally release the official mod support. Until then I think people will continue to cry about it and play CS1. There were performance issues both with the servers and on the desktop at release. Before then, much like CS1, the game could be played on almost anything. 2013 added a lot, and honestly, if EA would put forth a minor amount of effort they could re-release this with larger maps today, as is, and it would be a hit.

    I think SC2013 is better than CS1 and CS2. I miss that franchise and wish we could get a new game with bigger squares. But even with the smaller squares, it's a very fun game.

    I think the thing that I notice sometimes with "Gamers" is once something is seen as a bad game, everything is assumed bad. SC2013 imo had a good art style, modular buildings, soundtrack, there were even houses of worship like churches, mosques, and synagogues. (Which CO seems bent on avoiding in spite of the massive role they play in making Cities feel realistic). SC2013's problems were required online connectivity at launch and Small Map sizes. If not for those the game likely could've turned out better. Also on the bad game with good features mark I could also say I think CS2 is a bad game (at present) but it's road tools, Mixed-use, and additional zones like Medium Density and Row housing are great.

    Quick answer, yes. If EA re-released this game with all the additions that CS1 has, I promise you it would do better than CS2. Like being able to purchase tiles, proper public transport; all of it.
    Also think about the content, the base game of Simcity is huge in comparison to CS2 and SC is over 10 years older than CS2

  • @YamatoPower9000

    Biggest piece that everyone downplayed is player's driven market economy. (As far as I remember). You build city and sell plasma TV that affect global (server based) market for every player. Maybe I just made it up but I remember that you could dump a bunch of TV's that you hoarded in your warehouses and shortcutted everyone by doing it.
    Don't you want players have some interaction between each other in their cities?
    Also funniest thing to watch was when my buddies crimials were stuck in traffic into my city... Game had ideas and features ahead of its time but they had to resrtict themselves in that vision due to limited at that time computing power. Also network desync between regions was substantional. If they to make this game today with city sizes at least 3x3 from that it would sell like pancakes.

    • @ShelleySkylines
      @ShelleySkylines  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I totally agree on all points 😂 I wonder why nobody has thought to pick it up again (like at EA) given all the improvements they could make and even now the franchise is still so popular. I’m actually surprised at the response to this video and even SC2013 has so many fans and great memories. Thanks for sharing yours! 💜💜

  • @PT-rg2vo
    @PT-rg2vo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I will agree with you. I have played more SC2013 over the years, than CS1. SC2013, for all it's faults has a soul, the city needs rebuilding as it grows and if you think of it as a big puzzle, can spend 20 hours in just one city.
    Also each city commercial & industrial buildings were related to it's specialization which made it more alive. In a casino city, the commercial districts near the casinos are hotels that generate a lot of money. In a coal mining town the industrial buildings are coal dealers, in an oil city different industries spawn processing oil etc.
    Can have a city generating power to feed it's neighbours, similarly to provide garbage collection, recycling and even policing & medical care. So that frees actual space from the cities as you don't have to build the same buildings in all of them.
    Also lets not forget the 3 thematic DLCs transforming various cities to French, English or German depending if you plop the starter building that convert it the architecture.

    • @ShelleySkylines
      @ShelleySkylines  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah the DLCs were good! Imagine getting some CS2 DLCs sometime this century 😩 I also love the things you mention like hotels near casinos etc. so much fun to be had! 💜

    I’ve been saying that SimCity’s simulation feels far better than Cities Skylines, especially when you consider the industries and how the city changes over time. Yes the mandatory DRM at the start sucked but they fixed that. The city tile being small was the only big issue, but I get what they were going for. They wanted to make it so we are working on multiple separate cities that work together. I wish EA didn’t shut Maxis down. I really want another sequel. :(

    I had a ton of fun with simcity 2013. The size constraints, launch issues, overall bugs and not to mention the always online crap ruined a lot for the game. Having said that, it has some awesome mechanics that i really miss in other city builder games. The BEST thing about sc2013 is its visuals, artstyle and amazing soundtrack. It's one of the most beautiful failed games i know.

      @ShelleySkylines  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

  • @PieterPuikmans

    LMAO, SC2013 is more a tablet game than a city designer. Nothing great about it. CS tries to simulate each agent, the traffic in SC is fake, for example.
