Because of maintenance work we do not drive any further than the Bijlmer ArenA station today. After Abcoude we crossover for the first time to the left track, over a crossing à la Märklin 5114. One more thing: in this video I do not timelapse the longer waiting times at some stations. What do you think: bring back the timelapses or does that ruin the experience? Enjoy!
Vanwege werkzaamheden rijden we vandaag niet verder dan Bijlmer ArenA. Na Abcoude maken we voor het eerst de oversteek naar het linkerspoor, over een kruising à la Märklin 5114. Iets anders: normaal versnel ik langere wachttijden op de stations, maar in deze film doe ik dat niet. Wat denken jullie: liever timelapsen of verpest dat de beleving? Veel kijkplezier!

19:30 site of old station "Maarsbergen" Platform in the middle that is way the tracks move out.
23:18 site of old station "Maarn". Building still there. Both old Maarsbergen and Maarn closed on the same day as the 'new' station Maarn was opened (were the train stops at 21:20)
23:47 Yard on the left used to be much bigger. They collected sand from a quarry at the other side of the motorway (A-12).
24:05 Why the motorway goes up? Because there was a tunnel for trains to get to the quarry. All gone but hill still here..
24:19 new wildlife viaduct. To connect wild life area's at both side of the tracks and motorway.
26:40 start of the rebuild station "Driebergen-Zeist" two crossings eliminated, 4 tracks, middle platform and raised station. Trains from Utrecht can turn around at the track starting at 26:45
31:19 site of the old station "Bunnik"
31:53 crossing eliminated. Slow traffic pass now at 32:04. Cars etc do now at 33:36
35:32 tram line from Utrecht Sience Park comes in from the right
35:46 trainline from Den Bosch joines the maze of tracks. 2 diveunders here to spot (I live futher on the left)
36:12 Look sharp to the right and see the old line to the National Railwaymuseum and beyond. Now lifted (connection is still aviable from the other side at Blauwcapel)
38:40 can you still see the tramline on the right? Has a stop at Vaartsche Rijn station too
39:39 highest building on the right is headquarters of the Dutch Railways
39:52 Yess, we have trees on a bridge... Theydo not carry leaves so no problem in autum :-)
43:08 building on the left is the new "signalbox" It controls a big area around Utrecht
52:48 line from Woerden joins in (that's why there is a fly-over)
57:33 start of turning track in the middle for trains reversing back to Utrecht
58:44 there used to be a lifthing bridge here to let ships pass. Tracks are raised now so bridge is gone. Also start of old station "Loenersloot" were a small branch diverted (59:05) to the left to Aalsmeer
59:15 the four track route is here a 1 + 2 + 1 but will change to 2 + 2 at 1:00:42
1:04:10 start of the old station Abcoude. There was a lifthing bridge for ships here too but replaced by the tunnel. Therefore the station moved to the "other" side of the canal (wich is closer to the town too). Old station building still there but can not seen from this view
1:06:47 old line to Amsterdam was more to the left and on the ground. Raised because of the Metro being build in between the tracks
1:09:02 Amsterdam Metroline joins in the middle.
See that the Holendrecht stop does not have a plaform for the most left track (used by intercities)
Wow.. The tunnel under the highway at Maarn is still there. Two turntable remains are still visible at that quarry.
This is probably a strange thing to say, but I just got out of my first major relationship (3 years), and I miss the person very much. This helps me to be able to get away from everything enough to be able to sleep. Thank you. You and other ride filmers help people more than you may know.

For those less familiar with Marklin part numbers, this is known as a "scissors crossover" in English. Abcoude is at 1:05:00, the crossing itself appears around 1:08:30.
Earlier, some double slips can be seen in the Utrecht area. These are topologically similar to a scissors crossover, but don't have two non-conflicting routes over them. I hear they also take a lot more maintenance, but they're convenient in confined spaces such as major station throats.
I like the timelapse stops. It's fun to watch people fast-walking.
Weer een leuke rit vanuit Rhenen. Mooi om te zien.
Over de wachttijden op de stations: van de ene kant vind ik de hyperlapse wel goed maar soms is er iets leuks of grappigs te zien en dan is normale afspeelsnelheid ook fijn. Ikzelf vind het wel leuk om naar al die mensen te kijken die soms aan komen rennen omdat ze anders bang zijn dat jij er vandoor gaat. Of zoals in Utrecht Centraal is het leuk om naar de aankomende en vertrekkende treinen te kijken. Er is zoveel te zien op zo'n groot station.
Maar uiteindelijk ben jij toch degene die bepaalt hoe je een video hier op TH-cam zet. Ikzelf kijk er wel naar.

Bedankt voor het advies. Ik denk dat ik stops langer dan 3 minuten ga versnellen, dan heeft iedereen van alles wat en ik hou wat tijd over :-)

Ik persoonlijk vind de lange wachttijden op stations alleen interessant als er iets bijzonders gebeurd, in zo'n geval is het leuk om het niet te versnellen maar anders mag er wat mijn betreft best een timelapse inzitten
Dank je voor de mooie video. De wachttijden op de stations zijn onderdeel van jou werkzaamheden en geven dus de realiteit weer. Voor mensen die kijken kan het echter tot verveling leiden zodat ze zelf gaan doorspoelen. Ik vind dat er voor beide opties iets te zeggen valt. Misschien kun je afwisselen.
When the station is quiet with few people around I prefer time to be speeded up. Love watching your videos in the UK.
I personally prefer the wait at the station because you can see what's happening (and moving) around you at that time. Especially at places like Weesp where you connect with other services. All the best from the UK 👍🇬🇧
I prefer pauses to be timelapsed, but maybe slowed down when another train is passing by. Maybe it's a bit too specific :-D

Langere wachttijden bieden mij geregeld de gelegenheid om even naar de Nespresso-machine of de ijskast te lopen, dus laat ze er wat mij betreft maar lekker in zitten... 😉

With no time lapse, the longer waiting times at some stations makes one wonder why there is so much slack time in the schedule. Isn't that inefficient for the traveler? Omdat er geen tijdsverloop is, doen de langere wachttijden op sommige stations je afvragen waarom er zoveel speling in het schema zit. Is dat niet inefficiënt voor de reiziger?
It all has to fit and sometimes that means longer waiting times.

Op 26:47 en iets ervoor/erna zie je de groene lamp, knipperen. Wat betekent dat dan (vooral tov continue groene lamp van doorgaan)?

At first I thought the stop signal was due to some new rule that allowed only one train underwater at a time. But then I figured it was a photo-opportunity that had your train and the one coming the other way were at your end of that short tunnel at the same time. But the answer is probably more prosaic, they didn't want your train to try to mate with the train ahead of it.

Leuke video, maar ik mis de ondertiteling van elk station. Voor een leek is niet te volgen waar men zich bevindt. Voor de rest keep up the good work !!!

Maakt niet (wachttijden station) uit, alles heeft z'n voor- en nadelen. Mooie route hè? Kan jij je indenken dat hier tussen de Haar en Rhenen vroeger sneltreinen reden?
Het eerste stuk spoorlijn behoorde voor de oorlog, tot de lijn Amersfoort-Nijmegen. Door bombardementen is de brug over de lijn gesneuveld. Vervolgens is dat een autobrug geworden. In 1980 is deze lijn heropend, en mochten wij als inwoners van Veenendaal gratis naar Utrecht vv.
@@fransvandenbrink4912 Klopt, zelf was ik er nog niet in 1980, maar weet er alles van! Na flink wat door spitten in archieven en dergelijke, ben ik het oude Kersenlijntje aan het nabouwen!

Keep the station stops complete
You do not have to keep station stops on every video but having them does give a visitor to your system a sense of timing for the trips. Good work! A nice break for dealing with my own small railroad here in West Virginia, USA.
