Akane was the leader in the beginning because she was the oldest and most responsible. Kanami has been known to be a drill Sargent during practice. The other nickname the Maids gave Saiki is the teacher. They now say that the all have their own part.
My first instrument was trombone...I sucked at it. Now I play bass and sing lead.

About starting the band - a lot of bands come from childhood friends with a wide range of abilities. They break up because they diverge and have different goals. Bands that form because of music associations are closer in ability and goals but they don't have emotional ties to each other. It's a business. It's not so surprising Miku put the band together so quickly, but that they wound up being so emotionally close to each other. Apparently it didn't happen overnight. Saiki felt isolated from the others at first, and MISA wasn't sure she was happy there. Akane wanted everyone to take it seriously. It seems Miku had a concept, but when Saiki says "I ain't wearing no apron" she decided she wanted Saiki's voice more than she wanted her to wear the maid's apron. She had some humility and flexibility about her "maid band" concept. MISA contemplated leaving. Maybe that had an effect on their musical choices. If they wanted this amazing bassist and really genuine person in their band, they'd have to bend to her tastes a little. This is really good. The best bands don't have one single contributor. I love Frank Zappa but what if he had swallowed his ego just a bit and become part of a band. How great could "Mothers of Invention" have been? Part of The Beatles greatness was John and Paul and George and Ringo contributing. If fact, if they had let George influence them a bit more maybe they would have continued another ten years and broadened their scope. But "what if" questions are pointless. A major part of the power of Band-Maid is that MISA is an equal partner, just like Akane and Kanami, and Miku and Saiki. Five fingers that make a fist, if you know the old saying.

Anyway, we'll see, MISA is amazing.
No pressure but Ohrenje is making 2nd parts to the 1st four videos. Saiki's is already done.
More like a Version 2 rather than a Part 2.

Thank you for continuing to comment on BAND-MAID Documentary. You are definitely not wrong in choosing Episode 1 of Miku first. Because BAND-MAID is interesting no matter which member you start with. But I think it also makes sense to start the documentary with Miku's Part 1 and end it with Miku. looking forward to it. As a side note, Ohrenje-san has released a new documentary about Saiki. My guess is that Ohrenje-san actually interviewed the members of BAND-MAID. I feels that way after watching the new Saiki documentary.
In the MV of Don't You Tell Me, MISA is drinking from a flask.
In a magazine interview, Miku said that MISA brought in her own flask and a bottle of Jim Beam and actually drank it in the MV.
By the end of filming the MV, the bottle was empty.
Director: "Okay. That was good, but let's get one more take."
MISA: "Kanpai."
You are totally correct about practice. I started drumming two years ago and practice all kinds of genres which is a good thing to do. But yes, I always try something that a can't play immediately but have to achieve by a bit more practice. Currently into jazz fusion.
At 5'8"+, she automatically stands out in Japan. 🙂
