2004 Arlington Million : ABC Broadcast

As Powerscourt took the lead and headed for home in the stretch of the Arlington Million, he veered slightly to the left, setting off a minor collision with major consequences.
Kicken Kris was bolting to the inside when he was bumped into the rail by Epalo, who was between Powerscourt and Kicken Kris.
After his horse somehow kept his balance and finished second, Kicken Kris jockey Kent Desormeaux protested.
Race stewards looked at the video and agreed. Then they stripped Powerscourt of the win, citing interference, and gave the victory to Kicken Kris.
"Initially I was quite upset. For a stride or two I thought I was going through the fence," Desormeaux said. "I was yelling from the back of my lungs."
Race stewards ruled Powerscourt jockey Jamie Spencer came over to the left with right-handed whipping and interfered with Kicken Kris and Epalo.
"I had the best horse. If they take my numbers down, I think I'll cry," Spencer said before the win was taken away. He declined comment afterward.
"I had to dive down to the rail and the leader was five wide and I'm diving trying to hit the pocket and finally I hit the pocket. There's room for a Mack Truck to come through there," Desormeaux said. "All due respect to the rider, I think he knew I was coming and he was trying to close the door."

Only thing I ask is I hope this year's Arlington million brings a lot of people cuz I have it in the back of my mind that we're going to lose this track forever I hope its not true

Desourmoux talking absolute bollox. Powerscourt was easily the best horse in the race, and Kicking Kris wouldn't have beaten him if he'd had an engine installed.

Desourmoux really played that up he knew he was beat and he over exaggerated by pulling up and pointing his whip . The Stewards robbed Powerscourt .
