Wow. Seeing you use that axe and saw reminds me of my daughter. She's seven, and I'm very proud of her. Gives me hope. if you can do this, so can she😊 How long have you been doing this, if you don't mind me asking?
Nice work man, thanks! As a history buff I’d like to share that full “Log Cabins” came to the US with the Scandinavians and their settlement New Sweden in South Jersey and Delaware. Had advantage of1-2 man build potential. Differed from British stucco “mud hut” tradition. It seems this build is a combo of the two. Why the canvas roof? Loses most of the R value of heat and insulation. (Need like 6 inch thick wood for true insulation.) And I think there is a way to align logs differently butt method so that there is less gap (mortar has low R value). Not sure but love what you’ve done here. Rgds, D
Thanks, this hut is a reproduction of an American Civil War soldier’s hut. The canvas roof was most common because the canvas A frame tent was most commonly used. The construction was entirely based on the skills of the soldier.
Really cool Eric! Watching this it makes me imagine what it was like for the Union Army during the winter months in Virginia.
well done....that is the 1st time I have seen anyone use a "come along" since my Gramps in the sixtie...again well done...

Haha, "rustic". That's one way to put it.

Just wondering what the white powder is in the gap filler that you were mixing in?
Hydrated lime.
Would wood ash also work?
Possibly, there are a lot of old time recipes for log chinking. Thanks for watching.
