Scarborough Fair/Canticle by Simon and Garfunkel, an acoustic cover performed by Mike Massé and Sterling Cottam on June 26, 2010, in Mike's home studio. Some fingerpicking fun on this one. :) We recorded this at my home studio in Utah. I've since moved to Denver, Colorado, but Sterling comes to visit and record often. Mike! You gotta make a stop in Halifax one of these days. It's a beautiful city with an amazing music scene. It's also not THAT far from New York. I recommend St. Matthews church. Incredible acoustics and sells out shows on the regular. Cheers, from Nova Scotia.

They did it on the Andy Williams show and sang it with Andy. So it was three singers which made it easier I think. It was pretty amazing though. This is an excellent version as well. Hats off to these 2.

And I'm in an acoustic duo and have played all this music for decades. We're thinking of flying from Florida to wherever Mike, or Mike and friends, are performing. What a joy!!!

What a masterpiece… I keep coming back here to listen this amazing song.
I'm 58 and I don't consider myself as a web addict, but I've been diggin' into some YT videos these last months and thus discovered jems from artists I didn't know (well enough) and it kept me going on. I've watched and heard some fantastic covers too... until I first heard Mike's. Then it's like a heroin shoot, the first one sparks your forever addiction ! So far I have not yet discovered all of Mike's covers and I've tried to first listen to radically different styles... without noticeing even one little flaw, vocally or instrumentally. Pure perfection, often equal if not better than originals ! I'm gonna discover the rest without hurry, just like when you have in front of you some of the best wine bottles and other nectars you're about to enjoy :-) I already know I'll never be disappointed, and likely thrilled by what I'll listen to. How many already famous artists can achieve that ? And how is it still possible nowadays to have people like you and your fellows (Dave, Sterling and others) not yet worldwide stars ? Singing and playing acoustic (both simultaneously and so well) is the hardest thing. No studio heavy production behind, stage lights or pyrotechnic effects, just natural strings and vocals in front of an audience, and performed so naturally, effortlessly... you guys are up in the stratospheric levels where one can only find the best of human beings. Nobody's perfect but I'm pretty confident that you dudes, can't be bad persons when you use and share worldwide such heavenly sent talents !! Deepest and forever respect from a bathroom singer and humble guitarist :-)
... may I add, I quite never post anything online but couldn't stay silent here, even if my post gets lost among thousands of others and on each of your songs' pages. I just hope you stop by for a few dates in France one day. I'll be there, first raw ! ah, and I hope you consider covering some of Gerry Rafferty's songs. This guy was another haunting voice that won't be replaced... but you'd sure do Gerry justice if you put your talent into one or two of his songs. And please people out there, don't hesitate to highlight Jeff Hall, Sterling Cottam and other fellows around mike. They're rarities too !

Simply classifying this as a “cover” version of a Simon & Garfunkel song almost seems inadequate. It’s more of a virtual recreation of the song, so well done that you don’t need to ever hear the original.

I showed this video to a friend and he joked that Simon and Garfunkel were probably hiding behind that couch, and I half-joked back "only if they were cowering in shame". I really think this version ever so slightly outperforms the original.

@@lauraespinosa2808 The canticle wasn't from the middle ages. It was simply Scarborough Fair. Simon and Garfunkle made it a canticle, mixing Scarborough Fair with Paul Simon's song "Side of a Hill" in the second verse.

Omg guys I'm almost 60 years old and I started hearing this song on the radio and and at summer day camp in 1970. The sound of silence was popular with middle school guitarists then too. Imagine how many times i' have heard Scarborough Fair in my life. But your cover of this song is soooo beautiful it made the song new for me and GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS. BRAVO!!!!!

This is without a doubt the greatest cover of this song. But have you heard the Simon and Garfunkel acoustic version with Andy Williams? Pure magic!
I've been trying in vain to find a live version of Simon and Garfunkel singing this with the canticle included but only found the one with Andy Williams joining in and that doesn't count. Then I stumbled onto this. This one counts! This is the closest I can ever hope to find and it is beyond comparable to S&G's version. Guys, you are freaking awesome and hearing this completely blew me away. Holy sh*t! Not only do you expertly replicate their vocals, but the added second guitar sent it beyond the heavens. Bravo and much respect to you, Gentlemen!

One of your video’s that I really like is you and your friend’s rendition of the Kink’s, “Lola”.
I was checking out some of your video’s and came across this video and thought, 🤔💭, is that Sterling?
His brother, Dale, and I went to school together in GR. Dale was my best man in ‘89. Later on that same year, I was Dale’s best man as well. Now going on 35 year’s, we are still married to the same Beautiful and Wonderful women.
I haven’t seen Sterling since 1989.

sterling has a perfect pitch and timbre match with his guitar and his voice becomes nearly indistinguishable in the melody a few times over the song. thats an honest to god jaw dropper.
