I loved this movie. I was pleasantly surprised by it. I still play the soundtrack in the gym from time to time. That soundtrack will get you pumped up.
The two pilots idea comes from the right and left hemispheres of the human brain. Also the crab monster knows how to find the girl because its her memory of what happened, so it is skewed and she remembers it as the giant monster hunting her specifically.
When describing this movie to a friend, I said that it was "Independence Day but with mechs". While not accurate, I'm glad that I, a non-movie person, was also able to make that connection.
Finally watched this for the first-time last night. Really enjoyed it. I've recently saw the sequel for sale at Dollar Tree on Blu-Ray and it's from Canada
I thought Dr. Newton Geiszler was going to be like the Dennis Nedry character of this. I mean the way he felt unappreciated by Gottlieb might've driven him to sabotage the Jaegers side with the kaiju monsters. I'm glad they didn't do that with his character. He was great in a comedy role instead of being a villain.
Johanna is my fav cohost on this show! Always get extra excited when she's on!! Possibly because she gets as annoyed at Tony as I do when watching these lol
Well there is some interesting truths about body size vs metabolism and lifespan. But also during dinosaur's reign the oxygen levels where much much higher
Pacific Rim felt like a near-parody of the action genre that succeeded in being more spectacular than 90% of "serious" action movies, and it's great. Also I think the new channel logo is a nice improvement.
This review was great Tony! I really wanna see a like a 2hr+ review of the hobbit trilogy with Newt and Johanna, I dont know if thats something You guys would do but its something that I personally would watch. I guess like if You wanna see this @HacktheMovieFans
I loved this movie. I watched probably 3 years after it came out. I thought the same things about when it came out; it was just like Transformers, no-name cast mostly, and I wasn't into Gundam type stuff. Glad I actually sat down and watched it. It has cliches but was overall a movie I'd recommend. BTW, great job as always here!
You two got good chemistry. The other guests are cool too. Maybe the 2 person format just works better for me. Anyways, love this movie!! Second movie i couldn't get into.
This is the most Japanese movie ever made by someone who is not Japanese. Two things I have a deep love for Mecha and Kaiju. They are just so very much Japanese
I enjoy hack the movies. I enjoy your takes on movies. You continue to talk about cliche moments and then want a cliche romance out of the two main characters. It was at least a semi original idea on a defined genre.
Thats what i loved about Gundam 0079 and such mechanical controls and sone peopele were new types. The later series had the vr type circle things you could mentally control. When they were machines played like a car with a manual transmission so much.... better in my opinion.
I don't think I remember anything at all about the sequel. I remember it basically sucked, and that's about it. Was there like some guy that was working on the walls and he became a robot fighter or something?? Then he had to be partners with a girl since his dad died....??? Maybe that's in the first one. The first one was definitely better but it wasn't that memorable either, really.
Pacific Rim is good? Geees, oh, well, I liked Ultraman more than Godzilla, King Kong, and all Giant monsters... Yet, I prefer Giant monster films than the Zombie-craze. Anyways, an excellent episode.
It's funny how you guys picked up on the American accent being bad, because as an Australian what really stands out to me is how bad those Australian accents are. Why didn't they just make the characters the same nationality as the actors or hire actors the same nationality as the characters?

Alternate titles:
"Charlie's Monster of a Day"
"Charlie's Gunna Hunnem"
"Elba Deep in Monsters"
I love Johanna, plus it's always funny when you two roast the other. I gotta watch your commentary.
Yeah they got good back and fourth.
Pacific rim is absolutely amazing and one of the most underrated scifi movies of past decades. It really had everything- even without big stars.
Tony's getting all his indirect Newt insults in 🤣
I missed the premiere because I was TH-cam searching Alien 3.

When I first saw this movie, my first thought was, "When did Charlie Kelly become a scientist?"
There’s only so far you can go with bird law before you have to find a new profession
its that fancy Flowers for Algernon drug.
The two pilots idea comes from the right and left hemispheres of the human brain.
Also the crab monster knows how to find the girl because its her memory of what happened, so it is skewed and she remembers it as the giant monster hunting her specifically.
Yup.. Tony and Johanna. Killing it.
Hannah
Can I just say how great Tony is for knowing the X-files
you guys don't know how much I wait daily for new episodes keep them coming.
If this movie had a better lead, we'd have gotten a trilogy out of this. This was amazing to watch in theaters...
Sam Worthington>>>>
I thought Charlie was good.
I liked the lead. He did fine.
I wish they were talking about Robot Jox instead.
Which is also on tape!
When describing this movie to a friend, I said that it was "Independence Day but with mechs".

Johanna is so adorable at 11:19 to 11:23
Every time I watch one of your reviews I get the urge to rewatch said movie. It's great!!!
I'm so happy i stayed for the last bit. Gave me the best chuckle from Hack the movies yet!

Hi Tony from hack the movies and johanna
Johanna carrying another episode ;) seriously though I this movie has so much patential. And they dropped the ball.
Please hack the jurassic movies with Klayton Fioriti!
Johanna is my fav cohost on this show! Always get extra excited when she's on!! Possibly because she gets as annoyed at Tony as I do when watching these lol
It was a very early myth that very large dinosaurs like the Apatosaurus needed two hearts.
Well there is some interesting truths about body size vs metabolism and lifespan. But also during dinosaur's reign the oxygen levels where much much higher
Tony's antics are finally getting to Johanna.
"finally"?
lol.
I used to have that alien toy too. So awesome 😂

I second that about the new logo.
I came across a blu ray for a movie called David Cronenberg's Shivers at Walmart today. Do you have a hack the movies or cinemassacre video about it?
James may have done it in the past. I am a fan of that film and my buddy Marc did the cover for the recent release you can find at Walmart
When dating a much younger woman don't remind her of how old you are by telling her that the first film you watched in theater was the 1989 Batman.
I can't. I saw plenty of movies before that in the theater. I was a kid at the time at least...

Grew up with the hellboy movies and oh my god I wish we got the third one 😭
You two should check out Sons of Anarchy, Ron Perlmans best role, hands down.
I really enjoyed this movie. Fun review
I think I'd watch a Hack The Movies review of the 50 Shades of Grey dumpster fire.
You should definately do Independance day with Justin & Kieran for July 4th Special.
Can you guys do a Talking about Tapes episode of Night Breed? It's such a weird good/bad movie. Loved it as a kid.
I enjoy hack the movies. I enjoy your takes on movies. You continue to talk about cliche moments and then want a cliche romance out of the two main characters. It was at least a semi original idea on a defined genre.
The movie looked like it was setting up the romance. It was weird when it didn't pay off.
You got it right! Just dont try to tell me that the sequel was good... It was PURE AWFUL.
Thats what i loved about Gundam 0079 and such mechanical controls and sone peopele were new types. The later series had the vr type circle things you could mentally control. When they were machines played like a car with a manual transmission so much.... better in my opinion.
I actually loved the Hellboy reboot. Not as great as Del Toro's but still highly entertaining. The Baba Yaga scene is particulary awesome!
This movie was soooool fun
Pacific rim otherwise known as, should have just been a evangelion movie.
👠
The Shape of Water was awesome.
You're killing me, Antonio.
Charlie was out of place in this movie, he'll always have Jax Teller on his shoulder, but this movie is great regardless.
Dat ending!!!! 😂
The problem is the dialog. The conversation where Raleigh and mako are sparring feels like it was translated from an anime.
You guys are awesome
You know what's weird? John Boyega and Idris Elba are both British actors doing American accents playing relatives in Pacific Rim movies.
The sequel had this hilarious thing where with a half hour left it remembered it needed a plot.
I don't think I remember anything at all about the sequel. I remember it basically sucked, and that's about it. Best known for his voice roles as Bular, Hellboy, Clayface, Orion, and Aarmagon.
Was Tony really in Dark Knight Rises?
The intro should progressively mispronounce Johanna's name every time she appears. Next time, pronounce her name with a Sweedish "J". Yohanna.
I like this
Why are you like this?!
Johanna is the best 🙂
Val Kilmer is in top gun 2 though?
I'm not sure if this is accurate, but I think council meetings with just holograms was done first in Neon Genesis Evangeleon
I'm quite sure that its something much older as a trope. Shadow councils are as old as the genre
