Hey friends! How are you? I asked a question recently on my community tab about my TH-cam channel name.
I proposed 3 options: "The French Guitar Guy", "Ed Makes Guitars" or to not change.
So far, "The French Guitar Guy" seems to be in the lead. What do you think? Do you have any other ideas?

You could do "Fleur De Luthier" for a channel name. You could lean into the French stereotype and go with something like "FroggyGuitars" or something else like that. Greetings from your French American Cousin in New Orleans, by the way! You should hear some of the dialects of French where I live here in Louisiana. "Cajun French" would blow your mind.
I actually converted a guitar that i had from a 25.5 inch scale to a 27 inch. I bought the neck super cheap off of amazon, and I did run into a few issues with it, that being that I had to shave off the neck heel to get it to the proper length. it honestly turned out perfect, and is hardly noticeable unless under the harshest of scrutiny.

I have converted my Squier Tele to baritone by dropping in the Fender Subsonic neck. Fits like a glove. No intonation issues.
how come neck radiuses don’t cause you headache and all the fret buzzing or even deal with dead frets?

@@deweyoogwey I have some fret tools at my disposal. Finding the radius is pretty easy and using the appropriate sanding block is easy too. Use a fret rocker to find the dead frets.

While no standard tuning has been established for baritone guitars, popular tunings for the instrument are:
a perfect fourth lower than a standard guitar (B1-E2-A2-D3-F♯3-B3),
a perfect fifth lower (A1-D2-G2-C3-E3-A3),
or a major third lower (C2-F2-B♭2-E♭3-G3-C4).

Cool guitar and solid skills! The one thing I'd do differently would be conditioning the wood on the neck with some oils to hidrate it and give it colour.
Thank you for using the long drill bit I always see people on TH-cam making necks using chisels and routers and there's a tool for that
Real nice job on the neck. The finish repair needs a little more work, maybe a racing stripe to mask the repair, then I think it would look awsome. Just my .02 for what it's worth.

I have a toranado I got really cheap (had a big crack in the finish). My plan is to refinish it and throw some wide range humbuckers in it.

I am always thinking why no one does the baritone conversion by shifting the bridge and pickups back, and throwing an adjusted neck. This will make it a perfect sleeper guitar, the guitar size will be identical to the original, but you have to sacrifice a couple of high frets.

Well, you can do that way, but it would need some routing, on new pickguard and a new paint to be clean, so it’s a lot of work. But yeah, the neck would sit better and the guitars less long. If I had to build a baritone from scratch, that’s how I would do. Thanks for your watching 😊
The only difference in how the neck would fit is the heel to fretboard ratio, the heel and the neck end in 22 like a Mustang/Jaguar neck, meanwhile the standard Fender/Squier/import 6 in-line necks have an overhang or end at 21 frets (which I still think is dumb, 22 should be the norm)

Great save on the headstock! Make a neck carving jig for your router. The TH-cam channel "Randy´s Guitars and Broncos" has a great one, including tutorials on how to make it, where he added ramps that mean you can carve the heal and neck transitions with the router, not just between the 1st and 12th frets.

Remarque concernant le trussrod de longueur 'guitare' sur un manche Baritone : je viens de voir les vidéos de Ken Parker sur la construction de manche, dans lesquelles il dit que le principal stress est sur la transition manche/talon/corps, est ce que dans ce cas ça n'aurait pas été mieux de mettre le trussrod a l'autre bout ?

Although the intonation would be off if you change the scale length of the neck, can it not be corrected by adjusting the intonation at the bridge?
That would be much further than the screws would allow. We'd have to re-routing the guitar to move the bridge :)

Super cool! May i ask, as i am interested in a Shaper Origin myself, where do you get the neck and fingerboard routing "template"/plan? Are they free to download, do you construct by yourself?
Thanks! As this neck is super custom for this guitar with a very specific scale length, I made it myself. BUT, some cool people upload files for free on the Shaper Community website. And if find a PDF / vector file on the web, you can import it in Adobe Illustrator and use it as a base for your Shaper 🙂
Also, if you're interested in the Shaper, I suggest you look at the reconditioned ones on their website, it's much cheaper (but still very expensive lol), for just as good.

You'll also need to relocate the bridge & pickups for the extra scale length of the neck. Unless your neck was a conversion neck & then the neck pickup is the only one that's probably too close to bridge 3/4 of an inch for scale length (24.75 vs 25.5) is one thing but this is anywhere from 2.5-3,25 inches scale length difference. Open strings could be tuned to note, but If the bridge is not the 28 inches scale length for the high E, it's never going to fret for intonation properly. Baritone needs heavier string set as well. And I think you'll find that the Mustang & Jaguar are 24 scale length, not 24.75, the Jazzmaster is 25.5 scale length.
Hi, no it's custom conversation neck I made myself for this specific guitar, so no need to change the bridge and so on. And it's not a Mustang or a Jaguar, it's a Toronado and the scale length is a 24.75" (not common for a Fender)
@dArchimbaudGuitarsRegardless of being a Toronado or any other offset Fender, the high E saddle contact bend over point needs to be located for 28 inch scale length from the inside of the nut for the strings to intonate. Perhaps 24 fret length neck does that without a bridge relocation with the existing neck pocket ? Any overhang for the last fret seems like your custom neck is a conversion neck design. And that would indicate the pickups are closer together than they would be for a traditional Baritone guitar of 28 or 28.5 scale length, just from pausing the video at 12:52 mark.

Merci, j'avais commencé il y a plus d'un an en français. L'audience française (même si elle est top) est très limitée pour un sujet autant de niche. Et la concurrence est au contraire très forte puisque l'audience beaucoup plus restreinte. Et aussi je suis très content de faire ce projet en anglais et de pouvoir partager plus largement
