I bought myself a cherry bomb salute for my truck and when I was throwing the box away today I looked on the side at the other mufflers available and the vortex was one of them. Not sure how I never discovered these before when researching mufflers but they all sound great.
A friend of mine worked at a nearby shop that was known for brakes and tires and had just added muffler work. They had a cutaway "Vortex: display and I immediately liked the design. An idiot could see how it would crush a Flowmaster in flow/performance. I went to Summit Racing and got a dual 2.5" in/ single 3" out for my mild Dodge D150 5.9L Magnum, which acts like a merge collector. Works and sounds great!!
The name flowmaster is so etched into people's brains that's just the default muffler of choice, and yes, flowmasters don't flow worth a dam lol. I'm here hoping to demonstrate there are way better options lol
@@powerband5235 I think they sound good on naturally quite engines like Ford 5.0s 4.6s, Chevy 305s but they sound like dookie on big engines with lots of compression and camshaft overlap.
I liked the sound of the Pontiac best! We always use glass packs on the farm pickups...let the old girls breath! Whether it was in the 65 Dodge D100 with the slant six or the 74 Chevy Cheyenne with the 350 or even the split axle wheat trucks...59 Chevy Spartan 80 with a 348 or 76 C65 with a 366!
Right on. The vortex is better than a glass pack, they don't have that motorcycle rasp on decel. It's a full body cased muffler with a straight through tube like a glass pack.
Nice, them Vortex' sounds great on the vehicle fleet. The Buicks and Pontiac are my fav. Though for my '66 Deuce-mobile i'm going for the classic-chambered exhaust they used on the '69 COPO Camaros. About the Flowmaster 40/44, my stock '75 455 Riv(will upload a video of it someday) had a 40something flowmaster on it. Good grief man, that it sounded like cancan-dancers on a tin-roof. That one went bye-bye and now have a 2.5 inch glasspack from Thrush(Woody Woodpecker). The Glasspack on the Riviera sounds much better. Rumble at idle and roar at WOT with some minor backfire. The flowmaster is still useful though. Now my winter-beater Volvo 940 wagon, has the flowmaster installed, instead of the stock rear muffler. Gives a little more rumble to it.
Everyone favors the Buick lol I know what you're talking about, A company called classic chambered power sticks makes those old chambered mufflers now. They sound good but they are so expensive. The Buicks and the trans am lack the sound but the cutlass sounds just like those chambered exhausts. Yeah man, I like loud, just not the popcorn sound of them flowmasters lol, glad the glass pack worked out on the riv.
The 69 skylark from my other videos actually has a 25 plus year old set of cheap walker turbo mufflers on it and an exhaust leak on the drivers side manifold.
@@UsefulEntertainment still sounds badass even with the leak 😎 I'm from the uk so we only hear 4 bangers with crappy systems on them 👎look forward to any updates on the buick keep it up 🤙
Lol, evidently I'm in the minority. The 350 sounds like a 1998 Dodge ram with a magnum 318 to me 🤣🤣🤣. That's just proof that these mufflers can make anything sound good. I will say, on camera, the trans am sounded the worst through the RPM band while reving it because of the lack of tail pipes and the dirt absorbing the sound.
The 430 Buick sounds gnarly. Winner.

Lol the skylark sounds so tame but it does sound good when you step on it hard.
