Adam, when I lived in the south I remember having that mindset about icy roads. Then I moved to Michigan, and after 20 years here, I can tell you those roads are not very dangerous. You will be okay brother.
I live in the mountains of West Virginia and snow and icy roads are just a part of life….we lived in Michigan in the 50s and remember the snow there was pretty bad ..we were in the Detroit area.
@@KirkandRA True, but those roads don't look bad. Also, here in Michigan, every so many years we have winters where the city runs out of funds for the year, and so we don't get salt or sand for the last part of winter.
Adam like I said late last year you and your dad’s vlogs were my best in 2021 and would appear that these vlogs with your mom are the best for early 2022 and so entertaining to watch! Love the family history and points of interest videos! Please be careful while you’re traversing those icy roads! ❄️
Hey, I have lived in Greensboro for almost 20 years now. It's crazy how much we have grown. These small towns like Stokesdale are up and coming with expensive housing. If you come back in five years I imagine the downtown area will be exploding with new businesses. We love the Greensboro area as it still has a small town feel unlike Raleigh and Charlotte areas. We want growth, but we do not want to become another area where everyone flocks to and ruins our charm. That said, we do have a lot to offer and hope people will travel to this area and check out our quaint towns. By the way, it has snowed for three weekends in a row. We hardly get this much snow in the winter season let alone in one month. Later in the week it will warm again thankfully. Hope you enjoyed your trip!
@@andreamills5852 yes! We love Ashville, but it's a shame to see what has happened there. When a town becomes too expensive and crowded for its residents to enjoy, it's time to rethink planning. I know a few people who have moved for various reasons, but no one really wanted to move, but circumstances there made it impossible to live there.
Woo Hoo, Adam, Love this too! I forgot to mention to ya earlier that Rutherford County, NC was also a filming location for Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day Lewis back in 1993, I think...Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, and parts of Asheville. Also, parts of Dirty Dancing were filmed here. Lots of good stuff here in this large but rural county in the NC Foothill mountains. As always, lots of thumbs up on this one!
I like watching your videos. And you always put a smile on my face when you get so excited about the water towers and the trains. Always keep that excitement in your bones it's good for your soul. And I enjoyed your mom with you too that's so nice.
This Train in the Window (a.k.a."GRAMPS") These cars were built in the 1908 to 1912 era as standard gauge tank cars with a capacity of 6000 Gallons and were mounted on Archbar Trucks. In the mid to late 1920's some of these cars were converted to Narrow Gauge by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. These cars were named after Lafayette "Gramps" Hughes who owned a small refinery in Alamosa Colorado and refined oil from the oil fields above Chama, New Mexico. During these years Mr. Hughes grandchildren wanted to know which cars belonged to their 'gramps', so he leased 20 cars and had them stenciled 'GRAMPS", and that's how they acquired the naming.
One of my all time favorite things to do is drive around in the country thru tiny towns and go antiquing, just looking around, so I absolutely LOVE these types of videos that you do. Thank you so much!
Adam, I wish ***someone would have you make travelogs around the country. You're honest, but I feel you're always respectful of the places you visit. Plus, you're interesting, have background info, the gift of gab, mix in easily, and enjoy these kinds of trips. JUST THINKING out loud, in print. 🤠👏🌟
Love the architect on some of the old buildings in the small towns. The details are beautiful.you do such a great job with these vlogs. Thank you for taking us along.
I enjoy watching your back road adventures Adam. Thanks for bringing me with you. I appreciate you braving the cold weather. 🥶 I like the colder weather if it's above freezing but, I don't like the windy weather. I find it hard to breathe when it gets to hot. I love when you talk to the animals.
Enjoyed as always. Maybe one day you will head back into Western North Carolina. Watching this vlog reminds me of the similarity of our little town of Canton NC.. It’s a paper mill town that dates back into 1890’s and still operational today. The buildings are pretty much original in architecture. The beauty of our town is location. Hour drive you can either be Blue ridge parkway, or great Smokey mountains.. love the vlog, always exciting when you come to our state and much appreciated that you take time to document the little towns. Stay safe on your travels.
I love these small towns with all the history and cool old signage. I live in a small town. Nice place to settle after moving across the US big cities. Enjoyed your vlog, and wishing your Mom a safe trip home. I think she really enjoyed 'hangin' out' with you' and seeing family! Stay safe, warm and well.
Loving your back roads vlogs Mr. Adam. I prayed that your mom had safe travels home. Really enjoyed the vlogs with mom Woo. Be safe and well. Safe travels and adventures Mr. Adam.
I’m sure these small quaint towns will see an upsurge in residents sick of the hectic big cities. Happening in Australia now as people get out of the craziness. Another great vid. Thanks Adam. 👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Amen you can get out in that weather to share these with us. I am born and raised in tampa florida and love all your backroad trips so thanks for putting yourself out to share these...
Adam you mentioned Tweetsy Raildroad, well the original one is in Blowing Rock, NC. It’s at Tweetsy Railroad amusement park check it out if you are ever that way.
Enjoyed this video so much! I grew up just off of Bald Hill Road and the abandoned/burned down store front was a thriving local hub 40-60 years ago. We just called it “the store”. It was always a highlight of my childhood to pick out a Mt Dew or Yoo Hoo from the cooler as a treat!
Yes, yes my husband was talking to your through the monitor screen....don't slip on that ice and fall!!! He broke his arm last week in an icy slip and fall on our sidewalk and he is 93. He is wishing you well and thanking you for the engaging videos! Waving from Michigan
You always brighten my day. I can't wait to get up and see where you are now! Thanks for sharing your Mom with us too. Stay safe! We are expecting a bad ice storm here in Kentucky on Thursday, and north of here will have snow.
You basically drove past my parents house. My grandma used to have a house in Walnut Cove. Thanks for showing these small towns! I got tired of large city life and moved back to rural life and love it.
If you like trains, you should head down to Spencer, Nc. There’s the NC a transportation museum, all sorts of transportation related items there. Planes, trains and automobiles. Another great video
So glad your mom stayed and spent some time with you. The videos you have with your mom and dad will be priceless memories for you. We love and appreciate those videos, they are the most enjoyable. Your parents are a hoot.
You find the most remote and loveable old towns and relics I Love it! The addition of seeing you and your Mom together and hearing you two recall places or discover new places and relics is heartwarming. Thank you for sharing your experience from Tammy in PA. P.S.: BE SAFE DRIVING and I hope your Mom has a good trip back .
Across from the motel: a "motor court" part of the same motel. It looks like it's from the 1920s. Lots of old motels had garages for your car. One still in business is the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, NM. We had one near where we lived, attached to a barbeque restaurant. While my parents waited for barbecue or talked after we ate, I played in the playground of the motel in front of the rooms and garages.
Love this! I love small towns. Old buildings and country roads. I've been to North Carolina twice and my youngest son lives in Raeford, N.C. . Love watching videos like this. Seeing quaint small town life. I would love to live in a quiet little town. Thank you.🙂
Love that Mustang. I love both the Carolinas. In NC , the outer banks, and Asheville (blue ridge mountains) are my favorite. Love the small town videos, keep up the good work.
I was born and raised here in Eastern North Carolina. North Carolina has alot of beautiful small towns and communities especially in the western part of the states. Beautiful mountains and valley's.
At 9:57 that is an old motel or "motor court"... They were used in the 30s and 40s by travelers and back then a motel room came with a little garage for your Model T.
The Kendall Oil "peace sign" was actually for 2 or 2,000 miles between oil changes, a big deal in my Dad's day. This was before synthetic and better blended motor oil. Yesterday, there was a gas pump at Shell with a photo of tags. Those went inside the glass part of the pump. Gas flowed up into that area and you would stop cranking the handle (on the pump itself) when the right number of gallons was on the level (like a measuring cup). Gravity would let the gas down into the nozzle. Also, the second pump was Ethyl rather than Premium. My Dad was a mechanic and full of tidbits on how things worked. I'm glad how you listen to your parents stories, too.
We’re under a winter storm advisory here in Missouri 😳. Great travels Adam, say hey to mom and wishing her a blessed trip home 🙏🏻💕🤗. The cows need their hay 😯
Nothing like starting your Monday work watching your vlogs!!! Love it!!! Thank you for your videos it sure makes my day better to get a good laugh over the cows!! Great way to start the week!!!
Thanks again, Adam. I love roaming around with you. You have been in such a good space lately. Maybe it is the weather, as you say. And it is absolutely adorable the way you deal with "winter". 2:15 I enjoy the abstract art ice. 😜 I promise you though that THAT would not take you off the road. 11:15 Loved the Pepsi mural. They seem more rare than the Coca-Cola ones. 12:26 The irony of the "Wide Open" store being closed.
Great as always Woo! It's so entertaining to see someone so unaccustomed to snow and ice experience it. Except for the mountains, NC generally only sees an inch or two of snow every 1 to 2 years. Bad winter for most of NC.
Slurp lol, don't blame your mom for staying warm Adam, Wonder who thought of that place name Bald Hill 😊, yep don't forget your toilet paper, sanitizer and those masks Adam lol, always happy to see a discombobulated crocodile 😂, Thankyou love your take on your daily adventures Adam
Small backroad towns are the best! That’s where heart and soul still live in these crazy times❣️I sure agree with you about the comfortable hoodie weather😎It has gotten hotter🥵 and hotter here in Florida🥵 since I moved herd 23 years ago! Summers are downright brutal anymore!

These are beautiful places. I enjoy remembering our family stories about these wonderful cities we would see someday see. Thank you for sharing. Love the video's
At 23:26 where you show the Kendall motor oil sign, the two fingers displayed that kind of like a peace symbol was Kendall's advertisement for 2,000 mile oil change intervals. How times have changed. Those Gulf gas pumps are cool.
Good morning Adam. Had a couple of caffeinated beverages while watching. Hope your mom had a safe trip home. Looking forward to seeing what's next. Stay warm and off the ice. Have a great day.
Great video, Adam. I hope you WILL continue on to Virginia, unless you are feeling burned out, and want to return home to restore. These videos are FANTASTIC! Miss these small southern towns!
That fake brick stuff is called insulbrick. It is an asphalt based product used back in the 1920's and up. It is very flammable . It had insulating properties. My childhood home was covered in it too.
Man I've been watching since 2012, been living in Orlando since 2014, and grew up in Danville/Martinsville, VA. It's wild to see you going through my neck of the woods in the middle of nowhere.
Oh man - you would’ve really liked downtown Lexington! It’s active & restored well, including a classic old candy shop! Please try to get to Holden Beach to Dale Varnum’s Fort Apache - it’s wild! Amazing place! ❄️🐸 And that frozen frog would’ve made a fantastic photograph to print! Being from Greensboro, it was really cool to see the old news and record newspaper stand, that was like relieving a piece of childhood for sure! 👏📰🤗

I'm sorry I always thank you for the vlogs, but I was raised that way. When someone does something that you appreciate, you always thank them. Thank you.
9:00 That was once a very busy hotel, I have heard some famous people stayed there way back when 9:48 this was part of the same hotel, the big red door were garage doors so the tenants could park their cars inside
One of the train cars said Florence Cripple Creek. That was the old real line in the gold rush days in Cripple Creek Colorado about an hour from where I live. That is a trip you should make in the spring or summer. Very neat town.
The building may have been a Piedmont Drug Co. building for the town of Madison. (Courtesy of a postcard from NC collection at UNC-Chapel Hill.) Would love to check out the old buildings. Thank you for your honest takes on these places! the Palmetto theatre building was beautiful! Your mom's a sweetheart!

That’s kind of you to say . Thanks so much

Adam, when I lived in the south I remember having that mindset about icy roads. Then I moved to Michigan, and after 20 years here, I can tell you those roads are not very dangerous. You will be okay brother.
But in the south, most municipalities do not have salt trucks and plows. That being said..the roads look pretty clear but you never can tell

Ice is ice, brother. A lot of people get killed in our winter weather. Yep, it's just as slick here on frozen areas as it 8s in Michigan.
Hope Mama Woo had a pleasant flight home. Lovely seeing her.
