I think the decision to make him unrecruitable in other routes was the right call from a story perspective, if only for great character scenes like this one between him and his dad. But good god I wish he was rectuitable in Golden Wildfire. Not only were his supports with Hilda some of my favourites in Three Houses, I would love to have seen what he and Holst would have to say to each other. They're both crestless sons of noble houses, both love battle, and Holsts standing in the alliance is proof that crests are not the defacto ingredient for greatness. Its just a dynamic I would have loved to have seen play out, even though I already love what they did with Caspar in 3Hopes.
honestly the higher amount of unrecruitables makes sense from a watsonian perspective. Byleth was a professor who had many months to become an entity their students trusted and put faith in, and the students who switched classes would have also had time to form bonds with the others in the house they jumped to. meanwhile in hopes, shez is just that cool new kid with the freaky sword and everyone largely stays in their own class for the two months of school, and the war hasn't dragged on long enough for anyone to really get resolved to turn against adrestia to stop it. Oh and the lions are just a band of gigabros only broken apart by ashe being the odd one out and mercie wanting her bro.
Even then Ashe is weighed down by a family member in Lonato in Scarlet Blaze like Mercedes is. Yeah he joins in Golden Wildfire but Leicester is teamed up with the empire so…
What you said is somewhat true. Since the student had time within the monastery, they grew and became their own person with the help of Byleth as well as exploring other people belief's and made friend from other places. Due to this, they are able to be recruit onto different side of the war. Meanwhile, in 3 Hopes because the student didn't have much time in the monastery. They didn't get to know each other and just continue on with what they were going to do in life after the monastery anyway until Edelgard started her war. Within this context, the character that recruit-able makes sense but also the context of what happened if you go AWOL. We know that within the Empire and the Alliance while you would be punish it won't be as serve as the Kingdom. We know that through Edelgard A support with Jeritza, they aren't going to thrown in a jail cell unless they asked for it but instead would be require to do thing's that benefit other. ( Edelgard believes in restorative justice. ) We know that both Edelgard and Claude believes and allows their friend to leave their side knowing that they are going to side against because they value their lives. Whilst in the Kingdom is a difference story because of the culture of Faerghus. It consider immoral if you don't fight in the war and is consider treason if you leave the Kingdom either to not fight at all or to join the opposition and is punishable by death. Petra has Brighid and Raphael has his family. Meanwhile character like Dorothea, Bernadetta, Linhardt, etc while heavily believes in their Edelgard or Claude goal also priorities their lives which Edelgard always tells them to do both in 3 Houses and Hopes. The sad thing about the BL is that because they didn't have time to spend in the monastery. None of them could grow into their own person and fight for their own belief. Thus majority of them end up double down on protecting Faerghus as well as it toxic belief of fighting to the end until either you die or the enemy is completely gone similar to a non-recruit CF run. Which is why you are forced to kill them otherwise they will keep fighting. None of BL in 3 Hopes question the Toxic belief behind Faerghus. Sylvain doesn't question the crest system or the abuse he received from his brother and how his father treated him. Ingrid still has a death wish and doesn't value her life. Felix becomes the thing he hate most. Which is why I wouldn't say the BL are a band of gigabro because contrast them from House to Hopes. It heavily clear the positive impact Byleth had on them within 3 House.
@@ray0064 also because Ashe is told by Dimitri himself on their support that if he is ever to choose between his country and his life, he should choose his life all the way, even if it means pointing his blade on his king.
Ashe is honestly a must recruit for me in Crimson Flower runs because of how iffy he is about the Church after the Lonato incident, along with Lorenz, Constance and Lysithea.
The church executed Ashe's adoptive brother, resulting in his adoptive father rebelling against them and dying. This, combined with the fact that Ashe joins up with Gwendal and Count Rowe in Verdant Wind and Silver Snow, are proof that he isn't all that loyal to the church.

Caspar really should've been recruitable in Azure Gleam if you had Linhardt with you. Sure, it would've been really late in the route, but it would be better than nothing. I just can't see Caspar being comfortable fighting to the death for an Empire that's gone full-on Satan mode, whilst also willing to kill his best friend from childhood. I just think being able to recruit Caspar here would be cool.
It is possible to keep caspar alive, but not recruit him unfortunately, if you take the side caves full of mages and beat lynhardt's dad. The base he was in control of will open. Allowing you to head off Ludwig. Take over the base he's heading towards and Ludwig will be forced to take a last stand. The characters that you'd usually fight all spon at once, though now you DON'T have to fight them. Simply set your forces to all out attack and you beat the mission while sparing Caspar
It makes sense that Caspar specifically is no longer recruitable, since he no longer has the Academy phase to develop his own sense of justice that might motivate him to defect from the Empire.
Richard Epcar. I recognized his voice immediately. I remember he did the English voice for Dong Zhou in Dynasty Warriors 5 which i played a lot back in the day.

If you recall from Edelgard's support conversation with Caspar in the strategy game she basically says his brother is the quintessential useless noble resting on his bloodline, the sort she wanted to get rid off. So it shouldn't be surprising that he's basically put his safety as his priority from the way she's described him -- moreso that his father and brother are already there to represent the family so it makes it easier for him to weasel out of his responsibility.

I'm almost shocked he's one of the loyalist units while the likes of Dorothea can be persuaded. I guess I'm just too used to recruiting Caspar for the Lions in Three Houses. It makes sense to do that. Caspar would want to learn to fight with military kids, there's his paralouge with Mercedes, and of course, the whole thing with Dimitri and Fleche. The narrative just fits Lions Caspar. Then again, in this world, they barely went to the Academy, and Jeritza certainly ain't fishing for recruits, so loyalist Caspar makes sense. (But the likes of Dorothea are still persuadable, so...)
I would recommended watching Caspar support with Dorothea in 3 Hopes since it actually goes into this. The reason why Caspar remains loyal is because he believe in Edelgard causes but also because he believes in Edelgard. Caspar as a character is written to be very black and white. He there something that he disagrees with or see's as morally wrong then he going to do something about it as seen within his support with Ashe but especially Byelth in 3 Houses. ( In a sense, this would be he reasoning for opposing Edelgard in 3 Houses since she is forced to work with TWSITD and is associated with them. ) Within the support I mention early, Caspar notes that before the war. He really didn't have a understand on anything. He never knew about the TWSITD and how they effect the empire nor about the many issues within Fodlen. And while he still doesn't fully understand it. He wants to try and understand this problem to help Edelgard and help those who have been suffering from these issues.
@@lukestarford7608 Oh, I see. Unfortunately haven't touch the Eagles route yet, but I'm gonna look forward to that support. I guess now Caspar really does make sense as a loyalist unit.
@@bessieburnet9816 That ok, I been taking my time with the game and I nearly completed SB and I have 75 Hours into it. I would say his support with Dorothea is one of the better ones he got. Though sadly in general he is used in SB as the character to easy the tension downward after big moments and as comic relief which is sad because Caspar is one of the most well meaning and kind hearted character's in 3 Houses. He wears he heart on his sleeve and we see that in 3 Houses but not so much in 3 Hopes since the game tends to exaggerated certain character qualities within certain character's.
The Azure Gleam is the only story route in Three Hopes where Caspar dies. Interesting that Caspar will remain loyal to Edelgard and the Adrestian Empire in Three Hopes as in Three Houses, he can defect from both and join a force opposing them.
While the video does not show this, no where did Caspar's father, Count Bergliez, ever show shock, anger or saddness that his son died in battle. It is one of the issues I had with how the tragic fates of some characters are treated in Three Hopes. His silence of Caspar's death makes him look heartless and unconcerning.
God I hope there's a DLC route where everyone comes together to defeat a greater foe and none of the cast dies it's just heart-breaking all these characters dying without a chance to save them
I remember how I literally decided to end the chapter asap when, during my... "fight" with Aegir, I noticed that I accidentally left... Byletha I believe, close to Caspar, by the time I was fighting him, Caspar had like 3% of the HP bar and I got really scared, Caspar is actually one of my "favorite studemts" (students I always give more attention in 3 Houses) so i really didn't wanted him to die I was kind of sad that the game doesn't actually mention it, but at least if they give us part 3 DLC, I hope having Caspar alive makes a difference, is the only BE-Exclusive character you have any control in his destiny, is better than the situation with the other 3 students at least
It's funny how he's basically the only person who dies in Azure Gleam when in Three Houses, he was a must-recruit if you wanted to get the info about Mercedes and the Death Knight.
@@cranesalvation8391 the idea is to seize the bottom right stronghold of the map to cut down Aegir's escape while avoiding the confrontation with Caspar. For scarlet blaze: ferdinand, monica, hubert, manuela.
For azure gleam: Dedue, Felix, Sylvain, Annette, Ingrid, Rodrigue, Catherine, Seteth, Flayn.
For golden wildfire: Hilda, Holst

Actually Caspar doesn't have to die in the first time I played the chapter in azure gleam he ended up dead but when I played it to get S rank I ignored Caspar and defeated duke Aegir at some point he respawns and Ashe says that you need to defeat Caspar as fast as possible (you need to defeat him to open the Path to intercept duke Aegir) if you defeat Caspar at that time he retreats
Yeah, killing him is not mandatory.
@@SmallOneTV Can you show us how to force Caspar into retreating instead of killing him? I'd like to spare Caspar if at all possible, please?
The Bergliez family are true Patriots to their country!

( In a sense, this would be he reasoning for opposing Edelgard in 3 Houses since she is forced to work with TWSITD and is associated with them. )
Within the support I mention early, Caspar notes that before the war.
Caspar's Three Hopes death quote here is the same as Raphael's Three Houses playable death quote but Caspar mentions Edelgard instead of Maya
I love their angry faces
They look so pissed Just because of the mouth open
why did they kill best boy for fucking duke aegir
really
God I hope there's a DLC route where everyone comes together to defeat a greater foe and none of the cast dies it's just heart-breaking all these characters dying without a chance to save them
I remember how I literally decided to end the chapter asap when, during my... "fight" with Aegir, I noticed that I accidentally left... Byletha I believe, close to Caspar, by the time I was fighting him, Caspar had like 3% of the HP bar and I got really scared, Caspar is actually one of my "favorite studemts" (students I always give more attention in 3 Houses) so i really didn't wanted him to die
I was kind of sad that the game doesn't actually mention it, but at least if they give us part 3 DLC, I hope having Caspar alive makes a difference, is the only BE-Exclusive character you have any control in his destiny, is better than the situation with the other 3 students at least
It's funny how he's basically the only person who dies in Azure Gleam when in Three Houses, he was a must-recruit if you wanted to get the info about Mercedes and the Death Knight.
Caspar can be spared in Azure Gleam
@@flayron5514 really? how
@@cranesalvation8391 the idea is to seize the bottom right stronghold of the map to cut down Aegir's escape while avoiding the confrontation with Caspar. What you have to do is go through to right part of the map by taking down the gatekeepers and the strongholds, then take down count hevring. You'll be able to seize the bottom right stronghold, and then duke aegir will grow agressive, and caspar and his dad will rush at you. You just need to fight Aegir.
I almost near that chapter again so maybe I will briefly showcase it.
Caspar 😢
😭GODDAMMIT CASPAR!!!!!
Actually we can spare him too like how we can spare Annette 👍
@@SmallOneTV Really? How is it possible?! TELL ME!
@@Bakanaben2 according to the comments that I have seen.
We just have to clear the mission through the right side of this map and avoid killing Caspar..
@@SmallOneTV Seriously? That's something. I never want any wanted any playable Fire Emblem characters' deaths on my conscience. I always wished I could find ways to avoid that.
Love caspar. Husbando
Best boy
This was interesting but I couldn't stop noticing how his scar goes over his hair. Is that just poorly drawn and he's actually got a bit of a bald spot where his head was cut or did he manage to actually get his hair wounded in some esoteric magic ritual (probably performed by TWSITD)?
Noooooooo, we cannot get Caspar in other routes ? That sucks
Yeah, we can't 🥲
@@SmallOneTV that's so bad. Him, Yuri and Ashe, my cute squad :(
Is he only unrecruitable in Azure Gleam, or is it universal?
He can't be recruited at Golden Wildfire too.
Is it possible to spare Caspar?
Yes.
Go through the right side of this stage.
Only caspar and Ludwig can be killed in this stage.
All the other commanders will retreat once defeated.
Isn't there a way to technically spare Caspar in this chapter?
Yeah, we can skip through him.
But in my opinion, sparing Caspar is not what the dev expected.
For instance, sparing Annette and killing her cause different reaction.
Baron Dominic has different dying message depending on whether Annette was spared or killed.
There are also different camp interaction for this.
I'm planning to show this once I finished playing both save data at least until meeting blue lions again.
There might be different dialogue.
damn thats so sad

Scarlet Blaze Caspar clears both
