Bishop Rance Allen (November 19, 1948 - October 31, 2020), was an American Bishop, Minister, and gospel musician, and the founder and leader of the famed Rance Allen Group. Known for his extremely wide vocal range and powerful singing voice, Allen became known as the main lead vocalist and the leader of the influential group.
He was the senior pastor of the New Bethel Church Of God In Christ in Toledo, Ohio, since its July 1985 establishment. In November 2011, Rance Allen was elevated to the office of Bishop in the Church of God in Christ, for the Michigan Northwestern Harvest Jurisdiction. Allen was born in 1948 in Monroe, Michigan to Thomas and Emma Pearl Allen. He had 11 siblings: six sisters and five brothers. Allen founded the Rance Allen Group in Detroit in 1969 joined by his brothers Thomas and Steve. Allen was married to First Lady Ellen Marie Allen (née Groves). The two were married on December 1, 1970. The couple had no children together.
Allen and his group had performed with many gospel musicians throughout the country, including Andrae Crouch, Marvin Winans, Bebe and Cece Winans, the Clark Sisters, Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp, Tye Tribbett, Shirley Caesar, and Donnie McClurkin. He also performed for President Barack Obama at a White House Celebration of Gospel Music and was nominated for five Grammy Awards.
Allen died on October 31, 2020 from complications due to a recent medical procedure.

Most people can't handle what Mother Allen was saying about Bishop Allen. She took care of him and he took care of her. Young people can learn so much from the wisdom of this woman, who herself is a masterpiece. I should know, My wife and I have been married for 40 years, and the beat goes on! She’s a strong woman amen. I’m crying just remembering his songs and how him and my brother would work together. We actually knew them, she’s not one to be in the spotlight because she supported him fully, she was really his help mate. This is the most I’ve heard her say, and omg I can’t wait to hear more from her. She loved that man and she’s telling no lie. My brother was very close with Mr Rance, and he would come to Shreveport La very often to visit my bother or to do a show. He was humble, you didn’t have to pay him to be friendly either, he just was friendly yet serious about God’s work. He will be missed because it’s not too often you come across humble people like he and his wife. They are some good people.

My king has been gone from the earth for 17 yrs on December 9,2003 he treated me so well I have not wanted another husband because God have me one that love his mother and love me. I as Mother Allen fix his plate on a tray plate a glass silverware a napkin and a tooth pick it he needed I brought it and sat it before many times he did not wish to eat at the table only on holidays with family and quest. I learn that from my mother who service my dad. Bless you mother we need to teach this young women how to treat a man that’s worthy of you and know how to love and value you. It’s easy getting married. The important thing is how to stay married. Always keep God between both of you. God bless and keep you Mother. We were married 33yrs.

We met Bishop from Elder Michael Rich in East St. Louis, Illinois......, I went with Elder Rich to drop Bishop off at the hotel., I helped him with his wheelchair..... Bishop was such a kind , gentle soul, he also let me take pictures that day...(to show off)....... we all had barbecue that night!!!!! Bishop sang his heart out and blew up the church !!! Some of people came to Christ, and Bishop prayed for them, and he was tired, but he still listened and prayed for folk in a long line for prayer!!! I’m glad I personally got a chance to meet him!! My sister posted one of my pictures with him on my page....Bishop Allen and Elder Rich are both resting in the arms of Jesus!!! But we all had a great time!

This makes me proud to hear this! My husband has been working 6dys a week 12hr shifts. He's been TIRED! I told him last week baby take a shower and ill bring your food to the bed. I came back after i thought he was finished to find him asleep holding his fork. I just kissed him on the fore head. He opened his eyes gave me a kiss and said thank you baby it was good. I cut the lamp off and just looked at him thanking God for a good man! 25yrs and I still love this man like the day i said I do! He looks at me the same way. Nobody but God comes before him! I was very sick a couple of months ago. He took off 1wk to help out. He homeschooled, did monthly grocery pickup, cooked, cleaned, washed clothes, waited on me, and changed a tire on the highway lol! He had a flat on the way to Sam's with our daughter in the back seat worried lol! I said Lord heal me so I can get back to my duties LOL! My poor husband said i dont know HOW you do all this LOL! I stopped working when quarintine started and we decided to homeschool permanently. I just want my baby to be happy and not be worried about her at school. Plus I want to instill self love and to learn about things WE have done to make this world a better place. They don't teach that in school. I love my husband for having faith in me because I was scared to teach LOL! I gave up my dream for now to become a nurse like my mom! Ill try again in a couple of years. This thread has really inspired me to go for it again! I'm a great CNA so I know ill make a great nurse someday! My husband once told me something so uplifting its still in me today! After crying for days from being hurt by my mother he said "You giving the devil WAY to much time! It's time to give God his time to heal your heart. Get yourself together tomorrow I want to see the woman I married! I KNOW WHO YOU ARE, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE, AND OUR BABY KNOW YOU! Don't let no one dictate how you see yourself!," I got up a new woman no more tears. When my mom finally apologized months later i accepted it but i didn't cry or disrespect her. Our bond may never be the same but i love her. Your husband should be your back bone, encourage you, shoulder to cry on, and most of all love God!

I can't say how deeply hurt I was to hear of Bishop Allen's passing 💔 😔 😢 😪 I was commenting about my favorite song to a friend after church service today. The male choir sung today at Shiloh. Their voices uplifted my heart and soul for the trials and tribulations that I am facing right now. (Story for another time - y'all pray for me and my family please). Anyway I hope and prayed for the choir to sing, "Jesus is the (Sweetest Name I Know)". I so enjoyed hearing Bishop Allen sing this with Kirk Franklin. This song plays in my head as I faithfully walk on my journey. I have a Living Testimony. I am not giving up and so very blessed and thankful to have been able to hear Bishop Allen's song ministry. He brought me through some of the roughest times of my life. A true life saver and motivator. Rest in Heaven Bishop Allen 🙏 I know Angel wing's descended from Heaven for you to soar.
