it's been awhile but i used to drive the telehandler for construction company. when lifting things always be as close as you can without booming the arm out. that goes for whether you're lifting something or putting it back down somewhere. you always want to make sure that the ground you are working on is quite solid as well. you do not want to boom 2000lbs 20ft into the air and find out it's not solid. you will topple over to one side or the other with even the slightest amount of collapse of the ground ( some telehandlers have outriggers and some don't). i used to love driving them.. it's like driving A big 4 X 4 monster truck in the mud (most job sites were muddy)

lol...not sure I agree with that...but ok. It has a pretty specific purpose, only for moving materials around so it really can't do a lot on a job site other than that...so not too versatile.

@@HeavyMetalLearning Correction: you can fit other things than a fork on the front, for example, a simple bucket to turn it into a loader, great when it snows heavily and you need a clear working area.
You can also fit a brush to clean the road after wintertime.
Must be a few other uses that I'm not thinking of

You did excellent on tutoring. First thing every day walk around the machine check oil, tires, mirrors and fuel level. In cold weather let the machine idle for 10 to 15 minutes depending on how cold it is. So the engine and hydraulic fluid can come up to running temperature. If load is unstable strap it to the head frame. Carry your load with forks slightly turned up. Better to have your load shift backward to the headframe. Always place the forks on the ground when finish. Watch for overhead POWER LINES. A spreader bar can be used for longer loads if necessary. The Skytrak 10054 wheels need to be in the parallel position to disengage the crab steering. You need both hands on the steering wheel for sudden impacts on rough terrain. You are prone to a wrist injury when using a brody knob in this situation.

I've used a JLG and a Claas telehandler on 2 different dairy farms. They are great for unloading hay trucks and the bucket is a lot more versatile than a regular tractor with a front end loader. We even moved a shed with the Claas recently! Great video bud

@@mazookah The way we did it is we parked a tractor with a front end loader and a square bale of hay on the forks and had it raised so the roof of the shed was resting on the bale. And then on the other half of the shed we did the same thing but with the telehandler and also a bale of hay on it. So we moved it in 2 seperate halves. I suggest to not do it on a windy day as the shed will act like a kite 😅

The two governing bodies are NPORS or CPCS. Both are as good as each other. So a training centre will train you to one of those governing bodies standards. The 5 day course is about £1500. But there are grants available.

I’m an excavator operator at a small company. Occasionally, I will need to run our Mecalac in skid steer mode, but it’s not frequent enough for me to always remember which way it’s supposed to be set (the Mecalac has a switch that can make the dump/curl be reversed if you choose). In to keep dirt in will be a good reminder for me. Haha.

Is an old Skylift extended forklift considered a telehandler?

    • @HeavyMetalLearning
      @HeavyMetalLearning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yes, at least that's what I would call it. If it's a material handler (like forklift forks on it) AND it has a telescopic arm (meaning it can extend out away from machine) that is technically a telehandler.

I drive jcb 541-70 agrisuper and 525-60 agripro
Both have the option to switch the steering modes while driving
If you are in 4 wheel an switch to 2 wheel the back wheels lock in the center as soon as you cross over the center. If you are turning to the left and switch you have to turn right until the back ones are straight and then the lock in automatically.
Could be specific to the agricultural versions of the Tele handlers because the boom extension and the curl are switched as well in my machines

Those boom controls aren't standard! Even on my CAT th407 .
    Joystick controls....
    Back....boom up
    Forward...boom down
    Left...curl
    Right...dump
    2 rocker switches
    Left forward..boom out
    Left back.. boom in
(Or used for attachments)Right back... coupler pins unlock
    Right forward/back..coupler pins unlock/lock
    Trigger button is F.N.R.
Only other style I've seen is the jcb loadall from early 2000s with 4 directional levers and the 2 for stabilisers.

interesting...I have not seen that configuration on any TL I've been in. But like I said in the video, it is interesting that TL controls are not nearly as standardized across the brands, lots of variations. The controls you mention sound similar to a telescopic skid steer, like the JCB or Volvo I have run that have the arm extension on those rocker switches. Thanks for sharing.

Being able to see is criminal stupidity? Even forklift drivers doing yard work wear sunglasses if the sun is in the right place the glare means you cannot see, if you cannot see you cannot move, if you do move and cannot see you could kill someone. THAT is criminal stupidity. Knowing a thin piece of cheap plastic could of saved someone else's life.
