I obviously am about your age, and my wife is no longer 19, but we game together and our children are growing up in our nerd culture!

I recently counted my xbox 360 collection, which is basically a selective 'favourites' collection and its at 90-ish games. Those aren't by any means all of the titles I have played on the system, rather they're the ones I have kept/ want to play soon. There's a lot less chance to bask in a gamethese days. If you want to just dive into a game and either get really good or lose yourself you need to unplug from other games which are being hurled at you!

I've been playing games with my 3 year old and I think it actually has taught him a lot of vocabulary and concepts. So far we have beat Princess Tomato, a Boy and His Blob, A link to the past, Secret of Mana, and now we have almost beaten Chrono Trigger. He loves our time together, we play for like 15-30 mins a day most days before dinner.

I wouldn't mind going back to the childhood home that my dad built and I last lived in when I was 6 years old because it was something he built and he is no longer alive. But any of the other many houses we lived in since then I'd have no interest of owning. The downside is I'd have to move to New York. I'm a gamer and my wife isn't but she knew I was a gamer long before she married me and she supports me in any hobby I choose to invest my time in. My kids were interested in whatever games I was playing on. My grandchildren now come over and sit and watch me play my games. I'm their 54 year old gaming grandfather.

Tge most addicting part of gaming for me is crafting and specing your equipment. I've spent hours in Skyrim just crafting. Like not even like super end game weapons or something like that. Like literally dagger dagger, leather armor leather armor leather armor. Or rand om enchantmebts, or alchemy potions. So much fun. Even cooking. Cooking is such fun.

Good point with gaming 20 years ago as opposed to now. Back then, there was more a sense of wonder due to the lack of technology. There was no internet, no real walkthroughs (besides the odd gaming magazine - remember those?) Where games like the first resident evil really did scare you because we literally had no info on what to do next etc. Games like ghosts and goblins, metroid and strider etc conveyed so much atmosphere with such a limited colour pallette. It was an amazing time growing up.

Didn't realise that you're from England! What surprises me the most about that is that as you moved from England in 1981 you kinda missed all the gaming scene there as that kinda kicked off in the mid 80's. I am in Sydney Australia and although we had some of our own gaming magazines (I ended up working for two of them!) I wouldn't mind going back to the childhood home that my dad built and I last lived in when I was 6 years old because it was something he built and he is no longer alive. But any of the other many houses we lived in since then I'd have no interest of owning. The downside is I'd have to move to New York. I'm a gamer and my wife isn't but she knew I was a gamer long before she married me and she supports me in any hobby I choose to invest my time in. My kids were interested in whatever games I was playing on. My grandchildren now come over and sit and watch me play my games. I'm their 54 year old gaming grandfather.

Tge most addicting part of gaming for me is crafting and specing your equipment. I've spent hours in Skyrim just crafting. Like not even like super end game weapons or something like that. Like literally dagger dagger, leather armor leather armor leather armor. Or rand om enchantmebts, or alchemy potions. So much fun. Even cooking. Cooking is such fun.

Good point with gaming 20 years ago as opposed to now. Back then, there was more a sense of wonder due to the lack of technology. There was no internet, no real walkthroughs (besides the odd gaming magazine - remember those?) Where games like the first resident evil really did scare you because we literally had no info on what to do next etc. Games like ghosts and goblins, metroid and strider etc conveyed so much atmosphere with such a limited colour pallette. It was an amazing time growing up.
Such a great video and fun learning more about you two. When I met my husband, I was the one into video games and introduced him to them. :)
Thanks for answering my question! I've since got my wife to watch me game once and she hates it less now cos she enjoys seeing me having fun. She also found some of the game puzzles fun and challenging to try and solve! I'd be happy if she just likes watching instead of saying how she hates it LOL.

Didn't realise that you're from England! What surprises me the most about that is that as you moved from England in 1981 you kinda missed all the gaming scene there as that kinda kicked off in the mid 80's. I am in Sydney Australia and although we had some of our own gaming magazines (I ended up working for two of them!) I really loved the magazines that came from England which I guess you missed out on.

When i first met my girlfriend who didnt game, i didn't want to play games for a while either. Then we slowly got back into gaming together!
So anyone out there who thinks they need a girl gamer, perhaps you can make one if you already get on well!

Nice, I got mine into gaming too, she is in love with games like Skyrim, The Witcher, Dishonored and singleplayer games for the most part ( co op is great to play both of us ). It's just awesome to play together or watch each other play.
