Final Fantasy VII is what I consider the best game of all time, and it was the first Final Fantasy I played! The second best is Final Fantasy IX, and third is Final Fantasy VI. These are my top 3!

FFXII talk kills me because all the bad things that people say about it and why they didn't like it are almost always the reasons why I love that game. I loved finding and buying the gambits and setting them to automatically do the actions so I could focus more on the strategy while not having to pay attention to some of the smaller things. I can't wait for the remake. And I'm still hoping for someone to put the FFIX that went to mobile phones to be put on a disk.

The original and second one (IV in Japan) also have fond memories for me. I enjoyed the first parts of VIII and IX but never beat them and am only now getting back into them. The rest of the FF games were meh to me after X. If VI had a proper grown up remake like they're doing to VII, I bet more people would see why it's the best.

I remember first seeing Final Fantasy 2/4 when my sister played it for the first time. I was so moved and entranced by it and she would tell me what was going on at the point of the story. I finally got to play it myself about 5 years later and it was just as good as I remember it.
Final Fantasy 4 has since remained my favorite FF game to this day.

My favourite is VI. My second favourite varies between IX (a nice, fun little game) and XII. I don't get all the hate that XII gets honestly, VIII was a genuinely divise game since it parted so much foundationally from the main series, but XII is just a fantastic experience. Not only is it wonderfully written, the art work is gorgeous,, architecture was awe inspiring, the cast of characters is probably the best in the franchise, voice acting is amazing, the graphics were stellar and exploration was fun and rewarding. My only problem with the game is that it's too grindy and that commands made your companions way too robotic (I understand that it was a preferable alternative to sub par AI, though). Worst FF so far is probably XIII, the most overrated is obviously VII and VIII is the most underrated FF.

  • @SageOwl
    @SageOwl 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    FF3, FF7, and FF6. My top 3.
FF3 is amazing and I discovered it as a kid via emulation. It was the first Japanese exclusive RPG I had ever played through completely, and luckily I chose probably the best one on the NES. The remake is alright and accessible for people today, but I will always cherish and love the Famicom version. Such a damn good game.
FF7 is an addicting game for me. I cannot stop playing it once I start because I am just overwhelmed by it's polish. It's truly a very complete package that is just engaging from start to finish. I used to play the contrarian to that mindset, but as I grew older I really grew a huge appreciation for just how much effort was put into this game. I hope the remake proves to be just as amazing.
FF6 is probably the first Final Fantasy I can remember; either this or FF4. It was definitely my favorite for a very long time, and for good reason. This game is amazing, but it is flawed. It is way too easy for me. I know that this is coming from someone who was played the game multiple times, but even a beginner would realize just how OP magic is. The fact that almost every character can learn magic just breaks the unique nature of some of the characters, like Terra and Celes. The story is less centered on a sole character and more on the myriad of 14 characters you control, and that shows it's problems in the second act of the game. Aside from those gripes it is an amazing experience, and one that I can go back to whenever and have an amazing time, especially with the smorgasbord of improvement hacks out there.
I will admit that Square-Enix, Final Fantasy, and I have not seen eye to eye in recent (roughly 15) years. I do not know if I hold hope for the franchise to actually get an upswing and start improving it's image with QUALITY games (snort Lighting returns to electric boogaloo 2) as the industry continues it's down spiral to business obsession and high budget AAA games. I will also admit that my true love has never been for the Final Fantasy franchise, but for the myriad of side RPGs Square has made like the Chrono games and the Mana series. Final Fantasy will always be here though as long as Square-Enix exists, so maybe they can finally wow me with an amazing game.
Oh and Final Fantasy XV on PC. Get on that Squeenix.

+maxlvl99 It's remarkable how games can become so deeply associated with certain periods of our lives. Especially a series as long-running as FF, where the games are like clear signposts in our past travels - and travails.

Gambit system in 12 is great after you get used to it. Totally removes twitch reaction, and becomes about out thinking battles. Minor tweaks like setting healing at 30% instead of 20% can be the difference in a boss fight. So gratifying to crush something that was difficult without grinding levels. Very misunderstood game frequently because people seem to forget that you don't need to stand still. Hit something, run, and watch as party rains on enemy while it chases. Need to use brain.

Wonderful video and wonderful memories! Sadly, I can't relate to them on a personal level cause I didn't grow up with Final Fantasy. As a kid, I was a PC gamer, so RPGs I played the most were those with more western aesthetic, like Baldur's Gate or Diablo. For a couple of years though I have really gotten into retro console gaming and discovered for myself a whole bunch of interesting and unique jRPGs and became hooked right away. So far I have beaten two parts of the Final Fantasy series: VI and VII. Both are terrific and hold up well, at least for me. Soon I'm gonna start playing IX and then a lot of others - I hope great - jRPGs. My list of games-to-play is getting longer and longer but i don't mind :) So thanks for your videos, Johnny! You and some other TH-cam retrogaming enthusiasts are good advisors when it comes to my gaming pick ups :)

I still don't know how to pull off AuraBolt in FFVI. I didn't like FF12, for the story but also because it felt more like a FF Tactics game being set in Ivalice than an FF. Also never even tried XI, it should have been "Final Fantasy Online" instead imo

Shadow from FF VI. Yet another great character in a game chock full of them. If you didn't wait for him on the floating island you couldn't even keep him in your party. Basically making him an optional character that would probably be considered DLC in modern gaming. His theme song was amazing alone, and his connection to other characters in the game's story was well developed.

It's crazy you posted this. I've been playing FF8 for a couple of weeks now and I just go to the second disc (I can only play once in awhile because of work and life). I will forever love FF8. It is easily my favorite. I know, the Junction system is broken, whatever. But The animations, the summons, the story. It's just so good. I'm going to go play now.

+kefkahkefkah Yeah, no doubt. the graphics and animations are great, even by today's standards, but waiting forever for the animation to finish is a drag. But, when you get the Boost ability you can make use of that time, so it serves a purpose. They're useful when you have 4 monsters in front of you, all weak to the same thing, and you got shit to do. Just throw out a GF of that type and send a couple texts lol

Final Fantasy 1 will always be my favourite. I do have a preference towards the 16 bit era style games so a close second for me is FF5. I remember playing a translation of it with an emulator, and it was pure joy! The job system was really neat, and it was fun to build exactly the party / classes that I wanted; like working up to that combination that could 16 attacks per turn, good stuff! :)

I remember my dad bought me FF-VII from a Costco back in the day.. it might've been back when it was still called PriceClub. And I remember beating that game on my little brother's PSOne with the portable screen in the backyard of my grandparents house, and man I was so damn satisfied with myself for finally beating that game.
So months later I had got a Jampack demo disc from my cousin, you know that one with the Viewtiful Joe demo, and of course I went through all the demos to then later find out that all the data on my memory card was *gone* , my completed FF7 save was on there dammit! I didn't find out until just a couple years ago that the Viewtiful Joe demo was the culprit.. and that's the story of my first (J)RPG lol.

I liked the Gambit system in FF12. I had my characters set up in a way that I would go to work with elastic bands around the thumb sticks that kept my characters running in circles and killing and leveling up in a very tough part of the world. Sometimes I'd come home to find that the party had died, sometimes they'd still be running around killing monsters and I would have jumped 10 levels.

Also tried to find ways to resurect (you know who) with no luck. Final Fantasy 8 seemed strange to me (realistic looking characters) though I loved that one aswell but for some reason It just didn't make me as obsessed with it as FF7 did. I Barely ever used any spells because of how it was attached to the stats of the characters. Didn't keep me from grinding for spells though. Especially those really powerful ones that you could find on some remote island on the eastern side of the worldmap lmao.

I haven't played all the final fantasy games but I have played quite a few but there are still plenty more that I need to play. The ones I have left to play with regards to strictly the numerical series are: Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Final Fantasy XIII-3. Final Fantasy VI and VII have been some of my personal favorites, while final fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X have become some of least favorite games in the series. It's still nice to see a video like this and your respective memories on majority of the games in final fantasy.

    My thoughts on XV:
It feels like they're trying too hard to create a game that is going to appeal to as many people as possible in the west. However, most 12-year-olds these days have never even heard of Final Fantasy, and most adult gamers don't play Final Fantasy simply because they are just not interested, either because they don't like RPGs, they're turned off from the art style, or they've grown jaded to the series. Meanwhile, however, they are also alienating those of us who just want a true-to-form Final Fantasy game. We've been waiting 15 years for something in the veins of IX, and if we're going to have to wait a more than half decade in between major releases with 10-year development times, then it's a huge disservice to us, the fans of the first 9 games (well, okay, 7 of the first 9 games, in my case).
We have witnessed creative decisions that are flat-out superfluous. Remember Stella? Remember the concept that Stella is a star and Noctis is the night? So they scrapped Stella and replaced her with...Luna...meaning "moon". So why exactly did they need to create a completely new character based around the same exact symbolism and analog? They couldn't just re-purpose Stella? Just seems like a waste of time if you ask me.
And finally, after what I've seen in the demos, I'm not a fan of the combat. It feels like it's trying too hard to be bigger and better than Kingdom Hearts and failing to do so. It feels like it's going to involve a lot of dodging, defending, and strategy, but I seriously have to wonder how well this is going to go down in the final game if I don't exactly have an easy way of defending, and the dodge roll system is almost useless. I mean seriously. Dark Souls, Lords of the Fallen, and even the aforementioned Kingdom Hearts, by the same studio no less, all have functional and logical dodge systems. I'm seriously worried that battles are going to be a total slog with this one, and if this turns out to be an action RPG where you need to grind and over-level yourself just to be able to match the current combat needs, I'll probably quit the game halfway through and it'll be the first time I've ever done that with a Final Fantasy game.

+DerAlmighty Kids today dont care at all for FF because we havent seen a good game since FFX, FF9 and 7 were brilliant who doesnt love Vivi for ex best character ever.
So this new generation can only get excited if they are offered something different like we where back in the day.
If theyre gonna go on this track to just become a fighting game with basically no character development theyre gonna compete with Skyrim,Fallout,HalfLife,Doom basically other kinds of fighter games theyre gonna loose just like they lost the last 10-15 years.
They need to go the more adventure type magical characters and enviorement way take a different stand.
They need to focus on making funny side quests like in the past exciting cities character development yes its worth mentioning a second time and put heart and passion into this series again.
They need to revive this and many other gamers heart and make this game unique again.
Its so painfully obvious why this series has crashed in popularity and sadly this will be the last dying effort to make FF great AGAIN.

The way I see it, it's like Dark Souls. No matter how many games like Lords of the Fallen come out, there's just something about the way From Software makes them, you know? Many can imitate it, but nobody hits it on the nose.

I'm a long time FF fan, here's a long rundown of my experience with the series.
I rented FF1 and was the first rpg I've ever played. I saw my friend beat FF2 when he brought over his new SNES. FF3 I borrowed from my same friend when he was out of town. This was the first time I was truly emerged in a games story. This started my love for RPGs.
I was on the hype train for FF7 when I saw the first pictures of a ff6 3D demo in a Game Players mag. This was the first game I would plan my days around, like an event. I liked FF8 just as much as 7. The graphics where way better with the textures and resolution. Then at an E3 Square announced FF9,10,11. I didn't play FF9 till a year after it had been out but liked the throwback and 4 members in your party.
FFX is a beautiful game I was hyped for awhile and I delivered on everything I'd hoped for. I spent around 10years, on and off again, playing FF11. I still think 12 is the better game although not as long. I like the parallels to Star Wars...

+Zombie Ranma I began playing IX for the first time not too long ago. It wasn't bad but the progression as well as the slow battle transitions were too painful for me to continue. I got half way through disc 3 and stopped suddenly, not wanting to go back.
VIII however, I started properly for the first time the other week and I am super invested. Junctioning is confusing at first but once you understand it, its incredibly deep and fun to experiment with. And don't get me started on drawing. I LOVE drawing, it feels like it somewhat adds a survival element to the game and adds a slight element of item/inventory management.

    • @LunatiqHigh
      @LunatiqHigh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think people forget that Squall loves people/ but he's had a rough childhood. Lost both his mother and father and then later on lost his sister. Was put in an orphanage and lost contact with all his friends AND THEN...... basically lost his childhood to be raised like a child soldier. He was stand offish because he didn't want to get close to anyone anymore because he thinks he'll probably lose them and he didn't want to be a "burden". Deep down/ Squall wants people around him/ but he's afraid to feel abandoned or lost again.
