You Know a song is good when it is still played on the radio 40 years later and it didn't even chart.
That is a good indicator
This didn’t chart? It should have!! 😍💃🪩🕺❤️
They also play it during Pro Sports Games
My favorite song. And under the bridge. Tie lol
You ask just have away your ages
This is an 80s song evolving into a 90s song. *Way* ahead of it’s time. 😊
Sometimes....in order to get to the future...you must go to the past.
What a great song, I love it! I put it into my "Shellshocked Radio - Recommendations" List: th-cam.com/video/o_xMjpXS7Bo/w-d-xo.html Very well done!
1983. That was a long time ago. Such a long time ago. Third grade, for me. But these cats aren't as older than me than they used to be. By 1987, I was into them. I found out about The Fall in 1989. I always felt like I was an outlier, I didn't have good taste. Boy was I wrong. The Cure, Depeschkljljas Mode, Nitzer Ebb, all these are good, but the first was the best, and the most: you take one, one, one for your family....
Exactly! And they don't get any credit for being pioneers of the Alternative scene that lasted well into the 90s.
Yes! Totally agree!
I came straight from the southside of Chicago to the western suburbs when one of my college buddies introduced me to this song. I had never heard anything so weird in my life! Lol I had growing up on R&B music and jazz, so this was quite the stretch. But here I am 30+ years later singing every word and remembering my friend Fred. Rest in peace buddy, we will see each other again soon!
Thanks for sharing
Yes you will god bless my friend
Love it! 💜
It was my first tape cassette that I bought at 13 years old. I'm 42!
What a great song, I love it! I put it into my "Shellshocked Radio - Recommendations" List: th-cam.com/video/o_xMjpXS7Bo/w-d-xo.html Very well done!
I found them at 14 and am a couple years older than you, so around the same time. Brings back some crazy memories, doesn't it?
@@MyNextShotWontMiss Yessss!!! I'm nostalgic now...😅
I'm 56 love these guys. It brings great memories. My husband learned how to play it for me even though he was not into this. I would sing terribly. He's been gone almost 11 years and man I hear Metallica, Alice in chains, too many songs it puts me in my happy place. Music is life.
I'm 42 also i thought I was so cool at 14 playing this loud
this song is a classic. my mom showed it to me years ago. Miss you mom!
Woe this is crazy I haven't heard these guys in almost thirty years
And yet you still remember the words! 🤣❤️ I did! 😁
Omgsh me too. Best times of my life.
great performance Alex & Steph
that was the best Spring Festival Ever!!

Criminally underrated movie
Its long been my Fave Movie and Soundtrack :)
Grosse Pointe Blank... Cusack and Driver... I would love to Drive Her.
This song reminds me of my mom, I listen to it sometimes just because I miss her
Dude sorry about your mom but you know this song is about jerking off so why would you think of your mom
this animation looks exactly how this song sounds i absolutely LOVE it
Well this is fun
Listened to this for the first time last night. It's hard to believe it's from 1983 when it sounds so new.
Thank you, Life is strange, for reminding me of this song.
SAMEEEEE!!!
i was like holy crap I forgot how much I love this
SAME SAME SAME!!!
This song is in life is strange? Have to play it now
@@gingerdanger244 True Colors, the newest one
High School senior '86 listening to these geniuses while everybody else was listening to Bon Jovi. I was so cool. Best years ever.❤️
How come you graduated high school the year I was born and you seem immature to me?
@@radhiadeedou8286irony passed you by; bless your heart
this song feels like it could have been made this year and still would have been popular
😂😂😂
Lol it’s not supposed to be popular! But understandable sentiment
in a genre unto itself!@@Snappy650
I miss seeing these guys live. The Femmes rock!!!
Had the pleasure of seeing them at the gorge one year at sasquatch
Out of all the huge a list acts these guys put on the best show both musically and in terms of being showmen
Lol the played mainstage in the middle of the day when everyone was working off the hangover / taking the good drugs underneath the scathing eastern washington sun
These guys come out to entertain and do a truly exceptional job of it
I bet that was awesome, the Gorge is one of my favorite venues in Washington. I've seen so many great shows there.
I'm a 53yo dude, grew up on this stuff... It's 20 fkn 24 and I'm STILL listening . . .rock on ! #fjb
Me , 62 go girl!!
I'm a 14 y o trans girl and I love this everyone can like violent femmes
Same! 👏❤️🔥

#fjb brother
I am very, very, young but my dad just showed me this band and I fell in love with them almost instantly!
Yikes, don't tell ppl you are young, too many creepers on here! 😅 Good band..
What? 4 years old?
Dude what?@@user-jx4fe1xt8q
Not that young- sorry tho lmfao@@arcticgoddess
Me too😊
Violet femmes, the first band I've listened over and over on PS2 to learn the lyrics. Took hours
I sat cross legged with the love of my life and sang this with her..we're not together now and I'm always going to be heartbroken about her. Every time I hear this I get taken back to that night singing and her beauty and our friendship.. Thank you..
music is not a toy; but made to be played
:,)
I love and hate those memories all at the same time if you know what I mean
She did feel about you same way. Move on remember the bad parts about her makes it easier
Love the nostalgia this song brings, it's like my way of getting in touch with my inner child
The Femmes need more love!!!
I love this song, and I love this art style.
It really reminds me of the drawing style of the singer from my favorite band, Alice Donut. Any other Alice Donut fans get that vibe from this art style?
Alice in chains
I was watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch from like 1996 or 1997 on Hulu, and they go to a Violent Femmes concert in one of the episodes. I looked them up to see if they were an actual band, and I kinda like their music. I’m usually into extreme metal, but they’re not too bad.
By "extreme metal" did you mean Falling in Reverse and Escape the Fate?
Years ago, around 1992, I remember seeing Melissa Joan Hart on Arsenio Hall or Dennis Miller or one of those shows, and she mentioned that the Femmes were one of her favorite bands. Which I thought was pretty cool.
I would LOVE to see these guys just ONE TIME
Saw them at Carnegie Hall in NYC in 1984 (maybe 85) & they were amazing!
My mum showed my this song while we were in the car about a year ago, and oh boy, am I glad she did. This song is a masterpiece😌😌.
Yeah it is
I would say actually that this song and many others on the album are masterpieces. These guys figured out how to bottle up all the guy angst and concerns of teenage guys and play it with passion and immediacy in a bizarre folk/hybrid fusion that never before existed (and never has since) but sounded inevitable none the less.
Just saw them live....EPIC!!!!!!!!!! I am always telling younger people about them so they don't miss out on them.
Once a Femm, Always a Femm!
This little funky tune makes me so happy, why? I don't know.
Thank you You Tube, for randomly playing a song that I have not heard or thought about in 30 years. Its amazing how many classics we forget.
They are absolutely awesome live! BEST CONCERT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! ♥️💕
The soundtrack to some of the happiest moments in my life ❤
Mi amiga Nicole died of liver cancer. As her coffin left the memorial service, this song blared loud over the PA. Well played, Nicole! Love you forever!!
D.E.P. *abrazos*
por que ? did she have big hands ? ...gigante manos ?
My favorite power trio of all time. Make no mistake, this was THE psychedelic, folk rock band of the 80's. Their live concert from the boathouse in VA or whatver it was named is kickass. I was a skater when inwas introduced to them by other skaters. I was simultaneously introduced to The Dead Milkmen and i still dig their stuff too.
The violent femmes is the epitaph of High School ! Great times. Even better band\sound!!!!!
If you can't dig this band you have no soul
my mom gave me this cd when i was 12 :)
LET ME GO ON!!!
If even Rob Zombie says so...
This whole LP is brilliant.
Add it up or the first album?
@@sydglover4842 In this case, I meant their first album which is where this particular song resides.
@@3VILmonkey I think the first album is one of my favorites to
Just heard a snippet of this on a TH-cam commerical and had to look up one of my old favorites! I love this song... I remember jumping around and singing the chorus as a child. Good memories.
My familiarity with the Violent Femmes dates back to schooldays. Great to know there are always sprightly tunes of this ilk in their back catalogue which I feel are eternally reliable listens
i was in middle school when this song came out totally love the band and all there music
When days were easy, and the world was a nicer place.
I could've sworn it was "let me go wild, like a blister in the sun" :D
Same.
Holy shit
I thought it was "let me go whyyy, like a blister in the sun"
Likewise
Whole thing is good. I was there then. It was a next level in music to know and be able to sing every song without music.
Just watched a music analysis of this song and was reminded how much I love it
Scrolling through the comments looking for the "this song is about masturbation" vs "this song is definitely about drug addiction" debate but it's not here...great job everyone 😃
I thought it was about a girl who teased him in high school for having small hands, so he writes a song from the girl's perspective, basically implying she is a bad person. Kind of like Frank Black(Pixies) has been known to do.
This probably my favorite song reminds me of highschool when I met my best friend she was self conscious about her feet so I changed the lyrics to big feet instead of big hands to make her feel better
This is a timeless classic 🎉🇧🇷
Ahhh the good ol' dayzzzz!! GREAT MEMORIES & STILL GREAT FRIENDS JULES! Has it really been 40 years? Think maybe I'm missing few..LOL
So great. Classic 80’s gem. Looooove!!! And I love this silly video! So cute
I play this every time I feel vulnerable, like today and yesterday and probably tomorrow. You know what they say about big hands. Big gloves.
Wow!! This is Awesome!! ❤️💃🪩🕺😍
It's an incredible song and album.
Thanks for posting.
My first born's jam we loved crusin in the car to!! He still remembers 20 yrs later 😁
I love these guys.
Wisconsin representing again! Love my state and I’ll always put this on.
true colors
👐🏼😎 We all used to sing this at St. Paul’s walking to class ~
It hurts to see how long I've been listening to this song and never realizing what the real lyrics is
When we were partying to this song in 1986 who would of thought these chords would be mlb rally music in 2024!
Love it love it!!! Great job!! Thank you!!!
Saw these guys in Seattle back in the 90's, was the best show I have ever been to.
This song takes me back to the 90's
thank you for the journey, chen
I love this song
Me i love rock music it is the best!!!!
I love this song so much for no reason so thank you for creating it!
Makes me cray, cray😁🙃🥳😂🤣
I was 7 or 8 years old in the early 90's and heard this on the radio in the middle of the night. I went punk cause of it and never looked back. ty VF
Just woke up from yet another weird dream. My dead uncle had bequeathed me a diamond he'd been carrying in one of his teeth. Someone had dropped by to give it to me. Right before I took hold of the treasure I cranked this song. Then I woke up. Makes perfect sense
Bring the diamond to the mountain top; we will then begin the ritual!
and there's the plot to part 2 ;)
Brian Ritche is one of the most seriously underrated bass players in rock history. He's practically the lead in a lot of their songs, the dude knows how to write a great beat.
I love this song. I first heard it in the German movie "Herr Lehmann"
freakin love it, keep struttin your stuff
Whenever I hear this, I can’t help but think of Duncan the grumpy engine’s theme from Thomas and Friends. They share a similar melody when you think about it.
This song has a special memory for me
My grandpa's house was going to be torn down. So me and my friend had a picnic across the street and watched the house get torn down.
This was playing while it was happening.
Great day 🤍
Funny, I've always loved this song, but this is the first time I've ever seen the video. It's also one of the songs that I would plead ignorance to if my parents wanted to know what it was about 😂
man this guy's rock and they are still great and great performance.
One of the greatest albums ever.
This is my favorite song ever
Loved meeting them back in the 90's still love them. ❤
I can say its 💯 original.
It’s so weird- I just started medicinal cannabis for a severe illness and this song I remember my dad listening to when I was a kid popped up… man I’m so strung out 😌
Love this band ... This album was my youth
This song got stuck in my head in 2021… SO weird!!! 🤔🤨😝
Heard this on a commercial radio station today .How things come full ⭕️ circle ⭕️
Don't you love it when pre internet songs make lyrics videos?
Song lives in my head rent free
There’s a billion covers of this, but we can never forget the chads that started it all
My art teach had this and an array of other awesome music on repeat when i was in highschool. So funny actually knowing what the song is about. Lol
I got this recommend on Spotify and now I love Violent Femmes
Don't get any more iconic than this.
I love this video 🤘❤️🔥
Bro no way I just stumbled upon this, I've been trying to figure out what it was for about a year after hearing it in a restaurant and realizing I heard it a lot on the radio when I was little. All I could remember was the acoustic intro.
Same as. Ive heard it for years, managed to Shaman it last week and haven't stopped playing it since!!
@@dellafenton2417 same! I've been listening to this song on repeat for a few weeks now
Happy for you, it’s great to find that song and this is a damn good one
Seeing you tonight in the Haw River Ballroom. Cannot wait!!!
I send this to any friend who thinks they can't sing, can't JAM, can't make good music because of A, B and C excuses. Perfect song that didn't have autotune
Genial saludos desde Bogotá Colombia
Thanks for reminding me 😁
Memories with friends singing your music 🎵🎶😂😂❤❤
On Tour and coming to Florida.... superb
I just love how the instruments are playing with themselves, just as the song intones...
Memories!! I was a kid when my sister would blast this in her car, and now I listen to it 😂❤
