If you really miss how thick it was from root to tip and you miss wash n gos with no heat damaged ends, I’d say to big chop. Personally, I’d continue to trim as I go and work with the textures. I believe in big chopping ONLY when you are ready. Your hair is beautiful either way. And your son is absolutely adorable! Like I can’t even!
I really do miss it😩 the quality in strength and texture came with a lot more ease! I plan on doing a knotless box braid video very soon it will be my first time attempting to do my own head; Jesus take the wheel!😂 And thank you I can't believe my son is going to be six soon. At this point I wanna snatch up both my kids and move off the grid cuz I don't like sharing him with his kindergarten teacher and definitely not the world.😂
Yep. That is what I did. I wore curly styles all the time to blend it and just kept trimming away (the perm at that time) and once i got everything out then i wore my hair in styles i really wanted to. Cause as I am watching her vid's I can tell she's gonna cut it.
OMGEE I feel you,😩 my hair grows pretty fast and with postpartum shedding, neglect, and this heat damage I feel like starting fresh would improve my hair quality instantly. I should't sweat it but hunny I'm over here drenched!😂
To assess whether your hair is shedding naturally or breaking off, you may want to remove the hair from the Tangle Teezer. Allow it to dry and inspect each strand. Generally speaking, if the bulb is attached to a long strand, your hair has shed normally. However, if you’re seeing short(er) strands with no bulb attached those are broken hairs due to over manipulation, damage, extreme elasticity loss etc… I hope this helps🌹
Sister all you need is a little layering in the front to get the dead broken pieces off and add volume and promote retention. I can’t tell how much of a trim u need because it isn’t straight but from the looks of it everything else overall looks healthy. You would be good with a little dusting in the back and on the insides but not an unnecessary cut (unless that’s what u want) Also, one thing I learned too is that the longer your hair gets, the heavier it gets which causes the curls to elongate. I made the mistake of over trimming thinking I had heat damage until I realized that once my hair got to a certain length it would go from 4b to 4A . I’d cut it and it would grow back the exact same way even though I wasn’t using heat or doing anything strenuous to it but I hope this helps :)
it doesnt look bad. I say cut .5-1 inch every month until it grows out. Rachel, I have bangs now and im just over it. I cant put my hair in a low bun. that's a staple for me. I say no to bangs!!! lol... but then again, where youre gonna cut is longer than the longest part of my hair right now, so you might be good. either way, it'll look good whatever you do lol
me toooo and I love my natural layers. I give myself an actual 3 in-4 in cut every 4-6 months cause it grows fast. BUT this time I did the wolf cut smh... whew midway. I dont remember the last time it's been this short. but it looks so much healthier
YOUR SON IS SO BEAUTIFUL OMG! As for your hair, your hair honestly looks really good to be heat damaged. I would recommend doing a significant trim and just maintain your protein treatments and deep conditions. Hair always grows back and you have beautiful thick hair that will definitely come back. I say healthy hair over length!
OMG, your son is absolutely adorable. I stumbled on your channel, just subbed. I love Olaplex too, and yes, you have to be careful not to over use it..Thanks!
You’ve tried a variety of methods to “mend” your hair. You’ve shown us options for us to have alternatives for our heat damaged hair. You’ve been beyond relatable and kept it 💯. Now’s the time to take bold steps and do what will add to the overall health of your hair. 💇🏽♀️😉 You won’t disappoint. You rock every style!🥰
Right! Took the words right out from my mouth. Nothing can work on heat damaged hair no matter what you try. It is best to cut it off and let it grow back healthy.
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched and I see that you know how to obtain and retain length. Speaking from a care perspective I’d rip of the bandaid so that you can enjoy the true characteristics of your Beautiful strands. Curls are Life🌹
When I had issues with heat damage, I tried trimming it until my full healthier hair matched the length but I personally realized that the difference in texture was not only annoying me but also causing breakage cause of the weaker strands. If I were you, I personally would just cut all the damaged hair off and start fresh. At least then you would know what to do to have that full head of healthy and thick hair. If your hair has gotten that long now, it can get that long again. I wouldn't want to keep masking or band-aid-ing the damaged hair. But you'll have to be READY for a chop, especially since you are used to length. Hope this helps.
Since more of the damage is towards the front I'd say trim little by little as you go along while still retaining the length and health of your hair. This way when it grows out a bit longer to catch up with the rest you can rip the band-aid off.
This video is so interesting. I never knew someone could talk about hair so much and care so much about growth and length. I never even knew what heat damage was until I googled it. Really informative
We are our own worst critics. Your hair is still beautiful and looks healthy, I would go with a trim, to include bangs and layers and gradually grow out the problem areas. Your son is adorable! Congratulations on Kindergarten!!
I commend you for dealing with your heat damage. I literally keep my heat damage hair in twist 10 months out of the 12 months of the year because I just don't want to look at it! But it's been a year I now want to start wearing my hair out. And that's why I love this channel! Also you just have great content
Hey girl. Glad to see a new post. I hate setbacks. I don't think it looks that bad. I personally would trim my hair every month until I get rid of the damage but that's me. If you feel comfortable you can rip the bandaid off or you can do an overall trim n cut layers.
This is a tough one.. bangs and trim sounds like a good idea tho.. Congrats on your cutie! Savor the moment before you know it he’ll be off to college!!
I was told that blow dried hair is the best way to see split ends and thinned hair. So if you have to cut breakage you should start cutting on blow dried hair and then clean it up for evenness on straightened hair. Then for maintenance trim on straightened hair. I say cut it, like a mini chop because I think it’s going to bother you until it’s done. Moving forward if you want to straighten do it on 375°-380° cause I’ve never received heat damage on that temperature that way you can enjoy straight hair and curly hair
On the parts at the front, be very delicate with brushing, including that particular dryer. I use it too, and it’s not great to detangle and heat up damaged ends at the same time
I had/have HD too. I cut bangs where it was unbearable to deal with and trimmed more frequently. I remember the video where you talked about this and you said you didn't want to take a step back in your length journey when the health of your hair wasn't lacking that much. Now with this breakage, your frustrations with the dual texture, and your longing for your thick, voluminous halo back, it may be time to do a mini big chop and up your trims. I'd pair it with upping my growth efforts. You got a lot of months out of your original decision, so I think it was the right one. Now, whichever way you're leaning to most is probably right for you. Good luck with whatever you decide!
Life is still crazy gurl but I'm taking it day by day and I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!! I gotta take better care of myself I feel like a part of my excessive hair shedding came from me neglecting myself... I gotta do better!
@@RachelAdina I feel you! Whenever I start getting stressed out or when I’m busy my hair is always what gets neglected. I’m also planning on becoming more consistent with my hair care.
I’m normally a transitioning type but I would just bigchop it. I’m lately kinda done with transitioning damage hair I just want my healthy full hair back
I would probably try and camouflage it. I see the damage but unless someone is doing what you are it isn’t noticeable at all. I’d do a good trim, protective style a few months and it will b fine. Your hair is still pretty.
I would try some light layers and maybe some curtain bangs. I too have long natural hair and have thought about that for myself. I'm trying to get rid of my old permanent color without cutting a quarter of my hair off. Thank you for sharing this video!
Hey Rachel, Hey freennnn! I’m a straight hair natural. My hair is not nearly as long as yours (it’s APL), but the kind of thinning that you have in your front sections is exactly what I had in my front sections. I got a trim of about 1.5-2 inches, and my hair in the front is now right above my chin. My hair in the back is more coarse, stronger and thicker. I think you should get bangs in the front, and trim the rest which may come out to layers, which will still look nice. When you straightened, what temp were you using, and how many times did you straighten? Do you plan to keep straightening? I can manage my hair the best when it’s straight, and if I do styles on my unstraightened hair for too long, damages occur without me realizing, that’s why I tend to straighten it. You may need a better elasticity treatment to get your curls to curl more. One that I’ve used that have worked before my eyes after a few times of use is Moknowshair curl elasticity treatment. Welcome Back!
I think bangs and a good trim would solve the problem I was using 380 when I got heat damage but that temp never burns my hair unless I already straightened which was exactly the case... I knew better. I'm thinking bangs might be really cute. I do plan on wearing my hair straight at least 4x out of the years so about half the year. I'm good at keeping the temp low and not going too high with the heat. The last time it was my first salon silk press and that press kinda ended it all. I agree with you on the, " if I do styles on my unstraightened hair for too long, damages occur without me realizing" I will not make that mistake again. if I just kept it straight and left it I don't think I will have that much breakage.
personally I noticed that as i get older my hair has grown longer and that also made it seem like it was less thick because when my hair was shorter it shrunk a lot more. But your hair doesn't look bad at all if anything you should just trim the front and then over time it'll cut off all the damaged hair.
I wld say cut it at the demarkation line. The sooner the better. It will get easier to detangle and your hair will feel much better. Health over length all day👌. Hair grows back, you'll look great and you'll have a head of healthy beautiful hair
Beautiful head of hair but it's time to cut that heat damage off if you don't want to deal with it. I had to do the same thing and now it's growing back even more healthy. Always keep health over length and cut them dead ends off when you need to you'll be glad.
Rip that band aid beautiful.. You'll be happier... Trust..I recently had to cut 4 inches..I was mid butt length, longest ever in my life... And now tailbone length... Those 4 inches were super thin at the ends and though I wasn't transitioning, because of the pandemic I want able to keep up with trims and it showed.. Now though it's shorter my hair looks healthier and my end are thick and full and now everyday I add a small amount of oil or serum to my ends.😘
Thank You for sharing 🙏🏽 your hair is Beautiful! I have big chop 3 times in the last decade. September was the last. Now I dust my ends. I would just cut where I see needed and deal with the different lengths. As long as the hair is healthy. It’s been working for me☺️ Your son is Adorable! God Bless!🙏🏽🥰💋
I think bangs and a trim would be what I'd do. If after a while the different textures are still annoying, chop the rest. Looking at your hair overall I'd say it's still good enough to trim and keep going. Excited to see what you do, great video!
Your hair doesn’t look bad at all. A nice trim will work. Wondering if Olaplex is a no no being that you felt a change using. Sidebar: Your son so adorable ✨💙✨
On behalf of me and my son thank you so much. I wonder about that too the first uses were amazing so I’m thinking I used it one time to many. I did take a 6 month break to let my hair gain back some balance; it helped a lot. I’ve changed so many thinks in my hair routine so I gotta go back to what’s familiar to See if my hair just prefers the basics.
Oh wow your son is a cutie pie. Thank you for sharing, I have fine hair strands and am high porosity. I wanted to try out olaplex however currently use Cantu Grow strong leave in cream. I can use it every other day. It is a hydrolyzed protein. It helps me so much when I apply heat. Your hair looks amazing and definitely say only you can decide what's best for your hair.
This is the same condition of my hair now except my breakage is the entire left side of my hair 😩it’s still long but thins as it goes down and I have a little heat damage in the front on both side 😭I’m not cutting it though I’ll almost tailbone so I’ll think I’ll just trim gradually
Just be thankful you have a head full of hair because many people would LOOOVVEEE to trade hair places!! I'd say cut some bangs. Your hair is gorgeous 😍
I wonder if you just did a good trim and took care of your remaining hair if over time it could grow out without hurting your indamaged hair..... I admit, I don't know a lot about hair, I'm here to learn. And, I really enjoy your content.
WHY am I just finding your channel, and I just purchased the WHOLE LINE of OlaPlex.... I have type 4 hair and my curls are Lifeless. and I'm so glad you said please don't use often LOL you may need to say that again for the people in the back. I'm about to have my hair braided in a week or so but I wanted to purchase this before I braid to help my hair while it's braided LOL. But I feel you just need to CUT IT OFF!! becaue if Olaplex and this resting for 2 months while in braids don't help then I am cutting it off as well. You are sooo hair goals and yor son is cute
Kindergarten?!!!??? No Way!!! Hey beautiful!!! I know long time no see! Please don’t be mad!😇 So good to stop in to one of your videos! Now to the hair!🤔 I honestly think a healthy trim with layers to rid the stringy demarcation line. Now question, how long have you been using that blow dryer, because I used it last week and my hair wasn’t having it and I had a lot of breakage. 😣 Just weigh out all contributing factors and keep hair protected a bit til you decide. Much love to you!
I plan to try a keratin conditioner as my main and source of protein, and then i intend to rollerset and flat iron my roots between protective styles (anything i can wear two weeks or longer…ideally at least a month). I don’t need my hair to be perfect anymore, but i def enjoy my frizzy big hair….i just need more consistency when i style.
I’m dealing with the same issue as u….i think a few deep Trims, lessening the amount ur using Olaplex, and making sure u using heated deep conditioners and steam treatments.
I know I’m late but I’d trim as I go. Not all at once. You have a bit of heat damage but long as you maintaining it and it’s not getting worse I’d trim lil by lil. Seems that’s what u ended up doing.
I JUST got heat damage and I know its coming....the snip snip but I want to grow it as long as possible because im not ready yet...I say when you're comfortable....do a mini cut/DEEP trim. Healthy hair with no heat damage and a little shorter is better than holding on to "dead weight"
Your hair looks great (as a whole, thick, full & long). It’s just like mine in terms of locational breakage (just bang area for me, also). Curtain bangs aught to solve the issue.
trim little by little where the breakage is as it’s growing out and protect style ? Fall and winter are up next that’s when i protective style most. If you trim off all the damage you might have to shape the rest of your healthier strands in the back, so you won’t end up with a mullet.
I wouldn’t big chop, I’d just cut all that needs to be cut and deal with uneven hair. That means “big chopping” the sides but only taking off 2 inches in the areas where it only needs like 2 inches
Olaplex really helped my hair but it didn't save me from the inevitable; meaning the most damaged portions of my heat damaged still broke off. I do think that Olaplex delayed the breaking process but once I stopped using Olaplex about 6 months ago my hair just could not hold up. I think the severe breakage could be a combination of many things but I will elaborate in my next video.
I think you have to rip the bandage off. So that, you have a fresh start and that will guarantee healthier hair. BTW, your son is gorgeous and I love his curls.

Cut at the demarcation and trim. Every time we have a set back I don't feel like it's appropriate to start completely over.
Your baby is so sweet.
Have you tried using a higher quality shampoo and conditioner? I thought head and shoulders had lots of silicones and stripped the hair etc
I say just grow it out and trim as you go. Especially since its only in the front
Is there a cuter baby on the planet?? Adorable.
Cut at the demarcation line
This is the same condition of my hair now except my breakage is the entire left side of my hair 😩it’s still long but thins as it goes down and I have a little heat damage in the front on both side 😭I’m not cutting it though I’ll almost tailbone so I’ll think I’ll just trim gradually
Long time, nice to see you.
It appears that your hair will be okay after cutting bangs and layering them... your hair is still beautiful!
Just be thankful you have a head full of hair because many people would LOOOVVEEE to trade hair places!! I'd say cut some bangs. Your hair is gorgeous 😍
My hair has been breaking and shedding like crazy for about 2 years now and I’m hoping this stuff will help
Do you think the thinning is from anemia and iron deficiency from menstrual or fibroids
I wonder if you just did a good trim and took care of your remaining hair if over time it could grow out without hurting your indamaged hair..... I admit, I don't know a lot about hair, I'm here to learn. And, I really enjoy your content.
OMG…that beautiful baby!🥰 Your hair is beautiful too….just trim the bangs.
Which Cantu product did you use in the video?
Please don’t be mad!😇
So good to stop in to one of your videos!
Now to the hair!🤔
I honestly think a healthy trim with layers to rid the stringy demarcation line.
Now question, how long have you been using that blow dryer, because I used it last week and my hair wasn’t having it and I had a lot of breakage. 😣
Just weigh out all contributing factors and keep hair protected a bit til you decide.
I’d cut bangs/ layers and keep it moving 😅... Where’d you get your tangle teaser brush from?
Cut bangs and trim. It’s not as bad as you think 🥰🥰
Just do a trim and bangs in the front. Cut along an angle on the sides and maybe layers.
Do what you're comfortable with girlie ☺️ x
Love the outro 🎶🎼🎵🎤
Thank you! 🥰
I know I’m late but I’d trim as I go. Not all at once. You have a bit of heat damage but long as you maintaining it and it’s not getting worse I’d trim lil by lil. Seems that’s what u ended up doing.
Are you using sulphate free shampoo?
I JUST got heat damage and I know its coming....the snip snip but I want to grow it as long as possible because im not ready yet...I say when you're comfortable....do a mini cut/DEEP trim. Healthy hair with no heat damage and a little shorter is better than holding on to "dead weight"
Your hair looks great (as a whole, thick, full & long). It’s just like mine in terms of locational breakage (just bang area for me, also). Curtain bangs aught to solve the issue.
I think it's time for a cut atleast in the front. Maybe layers so it's not as obvious.
I agree and I can't wait to whip out my knew cutting scissors! I'm thinking layers would be more gentle on my feelings and lengthy preferences.😅
trim little by little where the breakage is as it’s growing out and protect style ? Fall and winter are up next that’s when i protective style most. If you trim off all the damage you might have to shape the rest of your healthier strands in the back, so you won’t end up with a mullet.
He is just toooo Darling
I wouldn’t big chop, I’d just cut all that needs to be cut and deal with uneven hair. That means “big chopping” the sides but only taking off 2 inches in the areas where it only needs like 2 inches
I agree I will definitely cut bangs and give myself a nice trim I’m just wondering if I wanna just go short now.🤔
Is it heat damage or Olaplex? Maybe both? I did no get it.
Your son is literally a doll!!! And yes I think you should just cut at the demarcation!
