Random question, but in the Oil Painter’s Color Handbook, do you know the credits for the left image at 2:21? It’s the page on the color black. I’m obsessed with it. 🙏🏼
Your style is my goal! Do you use a varnish that doesn’t need 6 months to curate? I’m new to oils and everyone on youtube is varnishing or framing their work so fast
Yes I use Gamvar which allows me to varnish when it’s dry to the touch (about 2-3 weeks!) Most modern varnishes allow the paint more breathability underneath so it’s no longer necessary to wait 6 months :)
6:15 - do you rehearse in digital before you decide to paint on a painting? Am I thinking right? :D I do the same thing and try not to think it's a kind of cheating XD

Thanks for these. I didn’t know Solomon J Solomon had a book. I will order it as I adore his work. Your painting looks fabulous ❤
Hope you enjoy it! It takes some knowledge of painting vocab to understand, but the information in there is wonderful. Like peeking into his studio!
Great information. I have several of these.
They’re some of the best - I have even more books, maybe a part II is needed as I clear out books from my studio as well :)
You paint a lot like Santos, I’m not surprised you said his name. I also see a little bit of Bouguereau in some of your work.
That is an amazing compliment! Bouguereau was the main inspiration for me getting into oil painting :)
Great video
Thank you Douglas!

I was just making a few edits on Procreate before I made any changes on the actual painting! :)
