Halls of Torment: A Great Survivor-Like with 90s Graphics

- Halls of Torment was one of the many survivor-like games that came out last year, and also one that I enjoyed quite a lot. I've recently been playing through the first two Diablo games and this game reminded me of them with it's visual artstyle. However, like Vampire Survivors, it's also the kind of game where I get bored of it if I play for too long, which is why the 30 minute session time works well for a game like this. Would definitely recommend it for anything that's a fan of either Diablo or Vampire Survivors.
Games Shown:
Lunacid
Dread Delusion
Dreamwild
Dynasty Warriors 5
Gran Turismo 3
Downwell
Night Shift
Vampire Survivors
Diablo 1 & 2

Endless Rattling - 14:37

Nice recommendation, I look forward to more of your videos .
God, this game really nails that late 90's/early 2000's CGI with the effects and even the animation, pretty limitated but really authenthic as well!
It really does. Pre-Rendered games still hold up really well graphically and I'd be happy to see more.
Nice to see a video about this, after I got off VS I tried many of the other games and none kicked so hard like Halls of Torment can. It's a bit too slow sometimes and not too crazy most of the time, but the vibe and the inventive parts are the real meat of the game
try brotato and soulstone survivor bro, they are way better than Hall of torment that i find just okay. Death must die may please you a lot too
@@anthonydeathchain4710 idk why, but SS and Brotato didn't really got my attention. Death must die on the other hand is great and was a nice tip, thank you! already 20 hours in :)
on the topic of diablo - it turns out that diablo immortal, in spite of the monetization model, is actually a fantastic diablo game. hate all you want - it's just good.
Yeah, mobile games are popular to hate, but there are some genuinely good titles on there, not counting the ports.
I'll have to check it out eventually. Finishing up a D1 Warrior playthrough now.
Hate that "Survivor-like" has become a genre term when the genre has existed for decades, with Crimsonland's original release being one of the first with a mid-run upgrade system, and Death vs MONSTARS being a bullet heaven with between run meta progression. You wouldn't go back and call those, Dracula Undead Awakening, Monster Shooter 3D, or even older titles like Alien Phobia 2 or even older like Robotron rogulites, you know?
However I appreciate how many good games we've gotten out of it, and also based DREAMWILD, Lunacid, and Dread Delusion mention
I agree that those type of games have existed for a long time. It's just that these other games also have the roguelite buzz surrounding it, and that's been a very popular genre for quite some time. The term survivor-like is merely a way to identify titles like Vampire Survivors.
It's not unlike the way people refer to some shooters as Doom, Quake or Half Likes.
@@brokenportals oh no I understand it, I just dislike it overall. I feel like people forget about the games that led to it that way, you know?
Not an attack at you or anything, just venting sorry lol
@@PhriekshoTV All good, I know what you meant. A lot of genres have popular games taking credit for supposedly inventing said genre even though it wasn't the first.
They're remembered for the impact the game made rather than what came first. Case in point, Vampire Survivors.
