Fun fact about Nuparu: It's actually NOT a shield! It's intended to be an energy Sword that can suck in surrounding energy and blast it out at enemies from the center circle. it was initially designed to be asymmetrical, but the design managers pushed back to make it symmetrical so the piece could be reused for other sets.
This comes directly from the designer 😎

These are my absolute favorites ever! Yes, some required some substantial fixes (Hahli's joints, Kongu's Color scheme and those basic feet. Also I shoulder mounted Nuparu's blaster), but otherwise i adore how they finally moved away from clone sets and made them very different. Great review as usual :)

At long last, the Toa Mahri! Definitely my favorite Toa team, Hewkii included, for their scuba aesthetic and Cordak blasters. Recently I've started building my own custom Mahri-inspired Toa and Matoran to help kickstart my creative flow.

Come to think of it, the Toa Mahri was the only wave where I collected every character. The only problem with collecting them as a kid is that they inevitably go into bins where they become impossible to reassemble.

    Ooooooh the Mahri...
I WISH I liked this team more, but, sadly, they are among the lesser Toa teams for me.
Nuparu and Matoro being the only ones to have silver masks is just weird. Lime green joints are self explanatory. Hewkii was done dirty, and no one will ever convince me otherwise. Also, why didn't LEGO give these color schemes a bit more of a re-work, to be closer to the characters' origin colors? For example, despite the lime green joints being brittle, imagine if Kongu was Metru dark green and lime green? Or Hahli in Metru dark blue, and light blue? How about Nuparu in black and orange?
Honestly, while the Mata and Metru are still fighting it out for my top Toa teams, the Mahri are definitely lower for me.

The Toa Mahri are possibly the wave of Bionicle that I remember the most fondly, and were the first team of Toa to have significant differences between each other. And they were also my fourth and final complete wave of canister-size sets overall. Though not shown here, the packaging these sets came in was more akin to blister packs than canisters, even though they still had stylized shells around them. From a time of acquisition perspective, there is some contrast in when I obtained each member of the Mahri as opposed to their prior forms.
To begin, after being my fourth Inika, Hahli (8914) was the first Toa Mahri I obtained on Saturday July 14, 2007. Three days before my 10th birthday that year. In addition to marking the debut of the Inika rounded feet and shoulder armor-and the exclusive Inika legs in solid Metru blue (as opposed to the melded ones from before), Hahli is the second and final standard set to have the Piraka torso in that color. As it debuted as part of Brutaka (8734) the year prior. Her "Protosteel Talons" and the wings on her shoulders are exclusive, and she is the first Bionicle set to have the Technic 90-degree "Cross block" in lime green, having debuted in the Drome Racers "Slammer Raptor" (8469) from early 2002. But as with Ehlek (8920), I honestly don't remember having the lime joint problem back then. Allegedly, the reason why that happened was because of a cooling error in the machine where the lime parts were produced in the factory.
At some point after Sunday, August 5, 2007, I obtained Jaller (8911) from a Toys R Us as my second Mahri after having been my fifth Inika the year before. Jaller would have had the most parts out of the Toa Mahri, if not for Kongu (8910) having two Cordak Blasters. The same part used for his Hana Crab is used as chest armor, but my copy appeared to be missing one of them, so I did have to order a replacement part for it. Jaller marks the last appearance of the Inika torso and legs in Metru red, and he has a new style of torso armor in orange that is exclusive to him in that color. Jaller is also the last set to have the Visorak double socket joints in orange, and he was my first time getting the Toa Metru eye stock in transparent fluorescent green (neon green), being that I didn't have Vakama Metru (8601), Lhikan (in 8811), Toa Hagah Norik (8763) or Axonn (8733). Jaller's solid Kanohi Calix is replaced here with the melded Kanohi Arthron, and his "Power Sword" would appear in three other sets.
Around early November of 2007, I would obtain Hewkii (8912) as my third Mahri after he was the last Inika (8730) I obtained just over a year earlier. Hewkii may be asymmetrical, but he is the only Toa Mahri to have the same number of parts (62) as his Inika form. Most of the parts on him in Keet orange (flame yellow) made their last appearance here, with the Piraka arm being exclusive, and the torso having one final appearance. He also marks the debut of the spiked Inika feet in black, and the last appearance of the Inika leg in that color. He is also the last appearance of the "Morning Star" armor from the last wave of Knights' Kingdom in its origin color of silver, though it would later appear in another Bionicle set in black. Hewkii's "Aqua Warblade" would go on to appear in eight other sets throughout the rest of the theme, only two of which I had.
I would obtain Kongu (8910) as my fourth Mahri (after being my third Inika) on Thursday December 27, 2007 from a Target location after exchanging a Mars Mission set (7693) I already owned at that point. Kongu would have the most pieces (74) of any canister set released through the entire theme overall, and the Metru legs are exclusive to him in dark stone gray. As are the Rahkshi feet in Metru green. He was also the final set to have Hordika lower arms and Metru knee armor in that color. Leaving only the silver knee armor remaining. Coincidentally, he was the first of four sets to have the 2x2x2 round brick in Metru green.
Matoro (8915) was my fifth Toa Mahri after being my second Inika, but I somehow don't remember how, where or when I obtained him. Only that it was possibly some time in the beginning of 2008. Matoro was the first set to have the Inika torso in white, and was the last set to have Toa Mata/Nuva feet in that color. And the last to have hand sockets in medium stone gray. His "Twin Cutters" would be frequently used later on in other colors, including in other themes as well. On all of the Mahri, they feature a Technic 19M "Flex Hose" in silver as a breathing tube, though Matoro also has two of them in black attached to his right arm. This part also debuted in orange in several sets from the concurrent "Mars Mission" theme, three of which (7691, 7692, and 7646) I had. This part is still in use today.
That brings us to Nuparu (8913)-who went from being my first Toa Inika, to being my last Toa Mahri. Obtaining him as leftover stock from a bookstore in or around early April of 2008, having obtained a more-recent set from the same place shortly before then. Nuparu actually has dark stone joints, instead of the medium stone ones found on his Inika form (8729), and was the last set to have the rounded Inika chest armor in black. In addition to his armor and the debut of webbed Piraka feet in black, he is also the first set of a Toa character to have the same style of limbs for both arms and legs since Gali Nuva (8570) and Takanuva (part of 8596) from 2002-03. As you mentioned, Nuparu, Hahli and Matoro feature transparent fluorescent blue visors, and this part continued to appear until 2008.

I really appreciate your production quality, and hearing your thoughts in general, but I would recommend making a script for these. There can be a lot of empty air and words you draw out a bit because it's clear you're thinking of your next point. I know making a full script can be intimidating, so maybe just jot down bullet points of some of the things you want to bring up while you go over each figure. Of course, this is only if you want to.

I love the Toa Mahri, and '07 story is some of my favourite! But... they need some mods. I changed Hahli's colour from lime to Medium blue, and yeah I do like the Lime, but the medium blue also looks great, is consistent with her matoran colours, and doesn't break. I changed Matoro's janky arm, and made the colour sand blue instead of medium blue, again, to make it closer to the matoran form, and I changed nuparus leg's and added some orange in there too. II changed quite a bit about hewkii and Kong, so much that calling them close to their original set is a but unfair lol. Anyway, great video man!

personally these 6 are my favourite toa team, even better than the mata. i love how they clearly look like they're made for the pit, yet their builds still vary alot.
kongu using 2 guns is a tad boring set wise, but his in canon explanation being "cuz 2 hands" somewhat makes up for it
jaller is definetly the most cohesive of the 6 in a way where he is still interesting. he also has probably the best mask in this lineup. oh and the crab is awesome
hewkii is overhated in my opinion. sure hes a little messy, but i really enjoy his uniqueness, tho i understand your points completely
nuparu is probably my least favourite, sadly being a major downgrade from his inika form. hes just very boring to me
hahli is my favourite of the 6. i love the lime green, and the contrast she gets from it (even though the joints are awful). the wings give her a really cool silouette and her claw is very unique
matoro is a close runner up for me. he looks "evil" with his hunch, blades and immoral mask. definetly fitting of his character in story
