    I will never understand why they insist on producing Belloq exclusively in the outfit he wore in only one very specific scene, a scene in which he didn’t interact with Indy at all. His Cairo suit would’ve made much more sense as a representative look.

      Because carded vintage ceremonial Belloq was super rare?

      Same issue with the 6 inch line too, put Cairo Belloq in an overpriced two pack with Brody. Kenner made ceremonial robe Belloq as a mail-away for a reason.

      Unfortunately Hasbro probably didn't feel the line had any lasting value to toy sales so they just did enough to satisfy their deal with Disney. If Disney had actually planned to continue making movies based on the franchise then Hasbro might have made new figures with better design. Disney probably wasn't that interested in the line anyway and Hasbro was just making sure Disney didn't try to use a different toy company.

      Exactly! They made Belloq with .... Marcus of all people when if he's depicted in arc showdown they should have made German soldier disguise Indy lord knows they made most of the line out of Indy variants! 🙄

    I was going to say that they probably put minimal effort into lines that only heavy collectors would buy because they know collectors will feel obligated to buy them anyway. However if they are stopping production the market must not be great. Anyway I do think my initial point plays some role.

    • @retroblasting
      @retroblasting  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Putting minimal effort into the lines they know their customers with the most discretionary income have is, by far, the weirdest take I've heard yet in defense of Hasbro. Hasbro is the biggest price gouger in the toy industry. But hey, you are clearly the type that believes what you say is super important and must be true, so enjoy the ride into the ground I guess. The toy industry has officially admitted adults are now their target audience... or don't you read the news?

    • @forex_shark6042
      @forex_shark6042 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not defending Hasbro. To me it looks like they are exploiting the loyalty certain collectors have to these characters and the goal of having a complete collection by releasing trash, knowing that these collectors will buy it anyway. It's a terrible long term strategy and bad business practices. You've replied to some strawman that doesn't hold my position and I'm not sure why. I'll chalk it up to a misunderstanding, maybe you run into a lot of Hasbro defenders lol.. I know perfectly well who the target audience is and my post speaks directly to this.

    Very informative. I didnt collect the retro figures as I went for the Adventure series. I feel both lines were missed opportunities. I know some may not have liked the 6" scale. And they were higher priced which didn't help.
    But I did appreciate that we got figures not found in the retro line. We got Belloq in his suit with Marcus Brody just to name a few. The grail knight is one of the highlights of the line. But like the retro series there were so many glaring ommisions. We didn't get Willie Scott, Lao Che, Mola Ram, the German Mechanic, Dietrich, Vogel and we had nothing from Kingdom yet we had a few from Dial.
    They didn't even make any army builders and rhe range really suffers from a lack of color. Ive seen some insane customs people have done with thuggee cultists and guards as well as the overseer. But they also could have expanded to some of the games though they probably would have been for a niche market. Ive seen a number of people make customs of Sophia Hapgood for example.
    Not sure if you have done a video on them already but do you think you might do one on the adventure series?
    Also what are your thoughts on the SHF figurarts Indy? I picked one up and its a pretty nice figure with a great likeness but it is expensive. His jacket imo is too dark. But everything else looks decent.

      @retroblasting As in varying up the offerings, or any effort to cater to collectors of the license. I get they have to "have an Indy" in every wave I guess, but I think they may have fared better to expand the Kenner line instead of the attempts of making existing versions with lower quality or head scratching decisions. If they made Elsa, for example there wouldn't have been an existing base figure to compare it too. It may have gone down smoother than reproducing inferior "new" versions.

    So I’m only 26 and have no nostalgia for these figures (or vintage SW either) growing up. But like with the Prequels, I saw Indy 4 in theaters way back when and fell in love with the character. So, again like Star Wars, I wanted to get the original wave of vintage figures on card and keep them carded as a “nod to the original” next to my slew of modern Vintage Collection, Legacy Collection, and childhood Star Wars figures (the oldest probably being POTFII OR POTJ). They look good on the card and I don’t plan on taking them out really. Same with the OG12 A New Hope figures. That’s as far as I’ll go with retro/repro figures.

    Honestly, given that they were never going to do any vehicles or the horse, and either can't or won't do accurate recreations of the original sculpts and stylings, they may as well have just done them as Kenner Star Wars style 5POA figures. Preferably all Cairo scene versions, which could have given them the opportunity to recreate the original Star Wars cantina playset as the Cairo bar and sell it as something to display the figures on.

I wish they released that San Diego comic con 2010 wave, the marion looks amazing, but sadly that ship has sailed.
    I was also so appalled with the retro marion figure, I bought a Stan Solo one with the superior dress (loose) and re-carded that on another alternative Chris King custom cardback, with the card art depicting marion waving the dying torch in the well of souls, so I also gave her Sallah's torch in the blister, from the 2008 line. It's crazy we had to kit bash and do all this ourselves..

    Also, if you use figure stands, Sallah doesn't have any holes under his feet! You'd have to drill them in if you need to.... was Hasbro too lazy to drill those out for us on him?!?

    In addition to all of the excellent points made by Michael, this line also suffered from the classic Hasbro distribution failure.
    Having dearly loved my vintage IJ collection as a kid, I bought every one of these that I saw locally on pegs. I got three figures. Three.
    They look passable near the back of my 3 3/4" collection, but I would have happily picked up at least the entire first wave, just for the nostalgia, but once again, Hasbro made it impossible for me to give them my money.

    The only one of these I picked up was Temple of Doom Indy but it was on clearance. Comparing him to the only 80s Kenner I have (Bespin Luke) it's worlds different and swore me off getting the rest of the Hasbro Indy retros. I really wish Stan Solo could have done his Indy and Marion, you could tell he put the heart and soul Hasbro lacked with this line.

    I’m just gonna say it, the whip accessory might have gotten the Slave 1 treatment. It’s entirely possible they just did it for the politically correct internet points (in spite of the fact that, like Slave 1’s name, nobody actually had a problem with it).

    Aaaaand now Hasbro is putting out Phantom Menace Retro Collection figures. While they’re thankfully a one-and-done purchase thanks to all six of them being in a box set, they still struggle to get the Kenner styling right. Only Qui-Gon has the cloth robes you’d expect from late stage Kenner Star Wars releases and the rest look like they’re having a hard time holding things (so par for the course for these things).

      The Walmart modern Retro Joes had a few, if passable, gems. Of course, they weren't exactly "Retro" in the purest sense, and they did choose to reissue "that" Duke despite showing they were able to build figures like Scarlett from the parts they had.
      Still worlds behind POC/30th in terms of quality, though.

    At first, I was so glad to hear that Hasbro was making the Indy retro-style figures. I only bought all 3 of the Indy figures. If I can find the others at a cheaper price, I'll buy them later. I was hoping for more villains this time , but I was sure disappointed. Sure, I can get behind the villains offered from Raiders, but I think Hasbro didn't go all in like they should've. I was hoping to see a new version of Belloq with either safari gear or in the white suit with the machine gun like they did in the 6 -inch scale. I was let down big time on that idea. What was the use of a Temple of Doom Indy and Short Round if we couldn't even get Willie Scott and Mola Ram? How about Lao Che and his goons? Where were the temple guards, Giant Thugee, or the temple priests? I liked The Last Crusade Indy, but where was Elsa Schneider, Marcus Brody, Kazim, General Vogul, the Grail Knight, and Walter Donovan? I do agree that all of the Indy figures should've had whips, satchels, and pistols with all of them. I ended up buying the 2008 Indy satchel to go with my Temple of Doom Indy so it didn't look so plain. Of course, I had to buy a repro pistol and 2 whips to complete my Temple of Doom and Last Crusade Indy figures. Even more disappointing, they didn't re-issue any of the original play sets and vehicles, much less offer anything that would've been awesome like a Temple of Doom play set, bridge play set, mine car play set, motorcycles, or a German tank. Hasbro could have done much better had they not been so lazy in their efforts toward this retro line.

    I had to buy repro whips, which are far more accurate to the original for mine. I bought 3 for every Indy in this line. I also bought 2 extra LC figures for the missing shoulder bags. I have all the originals, but I wanted the full new line as we never get Indy figures.
    Edit: Just got to the part where you suggested these solutions.

    good video bro
    ha, ha, I can understand someone getting this in 82,
    but not in 2024... at this price? come on!
    I have the adventure series
    8 figs, raiders Indy, Marion, Elsa, Toth, Sallah, Belloq and Brody,
    and finished with Henry sr
    the bad guys have to be Cobra, as otherwise, there is nt much opposition, I d like to get Donovan perhaps,
    but there s nt anything else...
    because I don t want absolutely to re create exact scenes
    I m good, but otherwise, it s quite limited.
    at least, they re very well done, and match Joes.
    so now you know...
    good show bro

    Hasbro only makes Indy toys with no care because they got the license from Kenner, if I was Hasbro’s CEO I would sell the Indiana Jones license to a different toy company

    • @retroblasting
      @retroblasting  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Disney is in charge of the license. If Hasbro gives it up, Disney makes the decision on who gets it next. Hasbro doesn't "own" the Indy toy rights.

    Looking back, I think the primary reason I never bought any Indiana Jones figures boiled down to the way my friends and I played. Mostly, it boiled down to big battles between the neighborhood kids. All us with our toys vs the kids down the street and their toys. The primary function of our action figures was to pilot the vehicles and man the various weapons & ground vehicles guarding the base. Indiana Jones simply didn't fit.
