Bob Dylan wrote this, and released it before Jimi transformed it. An excerpt from the Wikipedia page on the song:
In 1995, Dylan described his reaction to hearing Hendrix's version: "It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day."[63] In the booklet accompanying his 1985 Biograph album, Dylan said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've been doing it that way ... Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a tribute to him in some kind of way."[64] In 1974, Dylan, with the Band, embarked on his first concert tour since his 1966 world tour. From the first show of the Bob Dylan and the Band 1974 Tour on January 3, 1974, in Chicago, the shows featured what Heylin described as a "Hendrixized" version of "All Along the Watchtower".[65][11] From the first live performance, Dylan has consistently performed the song closer to Hendrix's version than to his own original recording.

They are pretty much the exact same words Kris Kristofferson said when a reporter asked him about "your song, "Me and Bobby McGee" and Kris replied "That's not my song, that's Janis' song now". My wording might not be precise, I read the interview over 40 years ago, he might have said "That's not my song anymore", but I remember the last four words very clearly.

So half of Traffic had played with Jimi. Very cool.

Bob Dylan wrote this song, and Jimi Hendrix covered it walked away with it. I was 7 years-old when Mr. Hendrix went to Rock & Roll Heaven. Around 1987 I was living in an apartment complex in Renton, Washinton right next to a rather large cemetery. I like to walk through cemeteries and wonder about the people there. One time I was walking through this cemetery doing just that and literally tripped over a tombstone. I turned to apologize (I'm a polite jerk) and the stone read James M. "Jimi" Hendrix. It had several bouquets of fresh flowers
and cards from fans. Last I heard, there was a small pavilion over his resting place. Love this song, love his work! There will never be another like him! Thank you for reaction! This song has been used in several Vietnam era movies. Okay, your son is adorable!

This song is my all-time favorite Jimi Hendrix song. I was a young teen living in San Francisco when it first came out. Even though I first heard it on AM radio it knocked my socks off and it still does 50+ years later. Jimi made great sounds on his guitar, Jimified the musical notes he heard in his head his way. His creativity was otherwordly. His guitar was an orchestra. I was too young to have seen him but knew a black guy who did see him at the Fillmore at about age 11 or 12. Jim was his guitar idol. Jimi played a free concert once in San Francisco's panhandle near the Haight Ashbury and Golden Gate Park. Many bands did that in SF back then. I never get tired of this song. I was heartbroken when he died. Janis and Morrison died soon after, which also saddened me. The three J's. Their untimely deaths steered me away from abusing drugs and alcohol.

Hello love you guys been listening for months but this is my first time subscribing to you’re channel
I’m a 57 year old black man a little info about Jimi Hendrix he is left handed but they didn’t make left handed guitars so if you look closely you will see that the guitar is upside down look at the tone knobs and how the cord is plugged in the tone knobs supposed to be on top and the amp cord supposed to be on the bottom.
He taught himself to play it upside down

One of the greatest covers of any song by anybody. That entire album, Electric Ladyland, is his great double album that is worth a full review. It is a landmark album, both versions of Voodoo Child or Chile are chill inducing, as is this song. Do Voodoo Chile with him having Steve Winwood adding to a terrific groove and vibe, one of the best jams of all time. Enjoy this awesome album!

What's even more amazing about Jimi was that because he was left handed he learnt and played his guitars upside down. That guitar in All Along the Watchtower absolutely sings.

On July 4th, 1970 I was in the presence of this great man when he played his version of "Star Spangled Banner" for us at Atlanta Pop! He was wearing a broad brown guitar strap with tan Xs sewn into it. David Gilmour now uses that same strap in most of his concerts. A gift from his wife. I had hitch hiked there with a beautiful sweetheart. Ah, the freedom of youth!!!

In an interview Dylan was asked what he thought of the way Jimi played his song and Dylan replied "He played it just the way I would have played it if I were Jimi Hendriix." Gotta' love it.

From The Cure's first album, Three Imaginary Boys. It's the only song where Robert Smith doesn't provide the vocals. Cool glimpse into their early start as what would later be know as post-punk. They started the post-punk scene in the late 70's along with Joy Division, Bauhaus and Gang of Four.

If you can, watch the Live at Berkley concert video. Especially when Hendrix plays Voodoo Chile, (slight return) Hendrix was incredible.
I will never forget when I was 15 in the 60s and heard Electric Ladyland all the way through the 1st time . By the time it got to All Along the Watchtower, then Voodoo Chile (slight return) came on, it was something that you never ever had heard before and it has only gotten better. And I had already played Are you Experienced and Axis Bold as Love albums over and over , then Electric Ladyland came out. Then we !saw Hendrix in May , 1969 at the Baltimore Civic Center . From there Hendrix then played Madison Square Garden.

Great reaction, guys. One of the coolest songs across all rock sub-genres ever. There are literally 'three' guitar solos. The flamenco guitar, the wah-wah guitar, and the straight-up, no-frills electric guitar. Love the reverb behind the drums, too. Awesome song. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I raised 75k and Christina Ann Tucker is to be thanked. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in dept then told me about her and how to change my life through her. Christina A. Tucker is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!!

Written by Dylan, perfected by Jimi! Probably the greatest cover, with my favorite guitar playing of any song. Hearing this soon after it came out as a child blew my mind. As it did virtually every contemporary musician at the time. He completely re-imagined the guitar for everyone

Trivia: Jimi's playing bass on this song.
Suggestion: "House Burning Down." Since it's release in 1968 nobody, not even Stevie Ray Vaughn or Eddie Van Halen, has equaled what
Jimi does on this song. 🎸🔥I'd love to see your reactions.
P.S. Your son is adorable. 💖
