That's a very neat mod, i have actually two of these vTXs leaning on the bench, now i know at least what to do what one of them lol Thanks for the great video as always Dave :) Happy midweek and keep on flying!
Super! I was thinking of changing the antenna to a CP style to avoid the reflections. You should do a montage video of all the interesting plane designs you have tried out.
Smart port allows you to connect the video Tx to your flight control board so you can change settings via the sticks (as shown in the video) Dave has the "S" model which means Smart port...... I use the same brand of video Tx but mine arent the "S" version, mine dont have smart port so I have to change the settings on the actual video Tx..... hope that makes sense.
Thank you for this tutorial. I just upgraded my Tinyhawk S. Only difference was I had to place the VTX on the diagonal because of the camera connector.
@@DaveMerc unfortunately, the upgrade was not a success. I was able to connect the VTX using your recommendations, but the video connector on the Tinyhawk S's FC got in the way. I couldn't get the new VTX to fit. The slight (off center) shift didn't work. I believe the Tinyhawk S needs a smaller VTX than the Eachine VTX03S.
Sweet mod. I’m still pretty new to FPV, i just wanted to be sure that the 5v wire of the vtx is using the 5v in and not the 5v out, right? the 5v out would be going to the camera if necessary?
Quick question, the video solder pad on The fc came off and I can not find a trace to solder to, is there any other place I can solder to in order to save the fc
Thanks to your video I was able to install it on my tinyhawk 2 while I'm waiting for the flysky controller to arrive :) It's my first drone and it still has to fly one time and I was shocked to see how small the board is 😂 I'm used to Arduino stuff and I thought it was bigger 🤣 Anyways, what about setting the transimmeter to higher power levels? Via menu? Thanks again great video
just did this upgrade and everything is working except that when im in the osd for smart audio none of the channels or power levels actually change, i can scroll through all of the parameters change and save things but it dosnt take. it seems odd because i can save and reboot the flight controller via osd and that works. any suggestions
Hi, thanks for video and clear instructions. Just bought this vtx to put on my tinyhawk cause i notice my vtx losing signal going very high up or further away. What settings do you use 25mW or 50mW? Hows the range?
The battery will last longer on 25mw than 50mw. It's normal for the VTX to be warm because some energy is lost in heat. Look up SWR and antenna tuning for the details.
hey im having some sort of problem with my tinthawk when i plug it in the video signal bar shows i have 99 max signal but the video looks horrible even when im flying i go like 10 feet to the other room and my video gets real choppy to the point i could barely see anything and the signal bar still shows 99 max bars doesnt make sense...
Mine still has some issues and I beginning to think a CP antenna could help the most. Here is a link to one that I think could work well: www.getfpv.com/lumenier-micro-axii-u-fl-5-8ghz-antenna-rhcp.html You might try that first and put a matching antenna on the RX.
Hi! I installed the VTX 03S and got no improvement at all. Any ideas? Could it be the goggles? Old Eachine EV800 with a mushroom antenna. I also read somewhere that regardless of what power you set to the VTX it would still not give more than 25 mW. Do you know something about that? I have the TH S by the way.
It switched for me but when I go above 50mw it drains the battery too fast. Also the power level in the goggles does not match the actual power level and that seems to be caused by the FC firmware. No I did not see a lot of improvement either to be honest. Now I am thinking of changing the antenna to a micro CP antenna to see if that helps. Did you try that?
@@DaveMerc Have not tried that yet but that would be the next logical step I think. The power shown in the goggles are as you say not correct. Is it even possible to change power with smart audio? I can´t see any difference in range when I try it.
IDK but I have read a discussion that says house WiFI interferes with most bands and people are recommending to use frequencies in the race band because it's outside the WiFi bands. Have you tried any of the race band channels?
I haven'tr any issues with heating so far. Only having a 1 cell battery with low current may be the reason. I usually run 25 or 50 mw because above that sucks the battery down to fast.
I am researching it now. I found one but not sure the connector is right. Here is the link www.getfpv.com/lumenier-micro-axii-u-fl-5-8ghz-antenna-rhcp.html But I actually need a IPEX connector on the antenna for the VTX 03S so still looking.

Thanks Cedric! One guy is saying there is a smaller VTX that might work but it's not tested (HGLRC GTX NANO 5.8G 48CH BFOSD 0mW/25mW/50mW Switchable)
actually the stock VTX does go up to 200mW, you just need to "unlock" it
Nice. I use the standard one without smart port........ I use them for long range and they work fine.... great vid as usual.
Super! I was thinking of changing the antenna to a CP style to avoid the reflections. You should do a montage video of all the interesting plane designs you have tried out.
Can you explain what you mean? You use the standard one without the smart port? How do I do that? Thanks for any help as I am quite new to this 😊

I think what moochasas is saying is that he has the same VTX but without Smart Audio so he can't use the radio sticks to change frequency and band.
I think the confusion is from the terms Smart Port vs Smart Audio. They are different things.

I see. I will put a note that is only works with the original TinyHawk under the video.
@@DaveMerc I managed to install this VTX into the THs frame, it just cant be mounted on the board. It fits up in the space behind the camera.
That peace out at the end... second time watching your video and it still gives me those uncomfortable laughs. Good stuff

Vin and Vout stands for video in and video out not for 5v. but i'm sure you figured out by now :D

no problems with 2s and 1s ?
quanto hai aumentato di peso complessivamente e quanto è scesa l'autonomia? Grazie

My power levels do save but they don't match what is on the screen because the manufacturer has different values than the stock.

I like to use 50mW and it works great, very good range. It will use the battery a bit quicker but it's worth it.
@@DaveMerc did u get shorter battery life using 25mW? Also, the vtx seems to get warm/hot... is that normal?

Is this thing overheating from the vtx being heatshrunk? How’s it holding up?

Awesome mod. Glad I found it I will do this on my TH S.
Hey Dave! Where are you flying? Looks cool I’ve been looking for somewhere indoors !
A gym in town. SW Virginia. Where do you live?
I live in Pulaski Dave! NRV Flying Aces
We have one indoor fly left this year (Next Friday).
Dave Merc Productions won’t make it sir will be out of town and I work 2nd shift booooo
Maybe next winter you can join us.
I cleaned my video up by just changing out the whip antenna with an AXii micro
Thanks!
Have same vtx on my old snapper 7, will lose radio signal before vtx at 100mw.
Runs good at 50mw but I think the VTX 03S draws to much current to run 100mw or 200mw on Tiny Whoops with 1s batteries.
This is too complicated for a noob can I just send you mines and you mod it? lol
I agree it is too much work for the results. I think now maybe a good micro CP antenna might be the way to go.

@@DaveMerc Hey Dave, have you flown it Outside w/this mod ? Wouldn't it be a great/worthwhile improvement in Outdoor conditions?
