Ok so Canon now has the bodies. Now all they have to do is support them with proper APSC glass like a 16-55 f2.8 or a 10-24mm f2.8 maybe a 16mm f1.8 and a 35mm f1.8. Instead of making us buy expensive RF lenses.
@@walkersunited332 Third party lenses should already be available for full frame bodies. But yeah, the APS-C would benefit a lot from some sigma or tamron lenses, and Canon can keep its focus on the FF body lenses.
Yeah they have allready released new lenses rf-s the Canon RF-S 18-45mm IS STM lens $549 australian pre order and the Canon RF-S 18-150mm IS STM lens $879 australian preorder kits are r7 with 18-150 $2789 aussie and r10 w18-150 kit lens $1989 aussie
I expected $1800 for the R7, so that price is a pleasant surprise. That must mean whatever happens with the next EOS R level camera, it will not be changing price much, if at all.
I daresay the Eos R will be a standalone camera. Everyone who bought the R is either better served by an R5 or R6 and can afford it because they work, or would move to an RP 2 type of camera or even buy these crop cameras. I think another R would cannibalize the other camera segments. I had an Eos R as a backup. I replaced it with an R6 so I could run twin bodies. The difference in price is small enough to justify. 5 years or so from now I'll likely upgrade but it would be to an R6 2 type body or R52 type body
@@raredreamfootage how? The 2 cameras u mentioned ( the s5 and the Sony a74) are full frame, better in low light ,more depth of field and the quality video they produce along with codecs are way better . The s5 image and sony a74 feature besides the auto focus in a real world situation best this camera .it's cropped. It's better than a m50
I believe the eos R WILL MOST LIKELY DROP IN PRICE BECAUSE RIGHT NOW ITS ONLY UPSIDE IS IT'S A FULL FRAME BODY, THE R7 DOES EVERY SINGLE THING BETTER AND IS CHEAPER, SO FEEL KEEPING THE R AT THAT PRICE (MORE EXPENSIVE) WOULDN'T MAKE A LOT OF SENSE
wow im blown away by canon. 4k 60 in both cameras? with autofocus? no record limit? 10 bit 4:2:2?, no heavy crop in 4k? im i dreaming? wow. canon wins! i was laughing at their apsc until now. big respect to canon.
at this stage if sony is gonna come with apsc, it has to have these features and more. at least stacked bsi sensor. and possibly 4k 120, even if cropped.
@@Chopper153 I would need sell all my gear which means loose money to go full frame and buy new lenses. Which body would you recommend for a full frame? Can be Canon or Sony
The value in AF is insane, what a time to be alive. I really wonder what are Canon's plans for Crop Lens's if there is any and when we'll get much more affordable RF glass. Jared please include in your upcoming review a comparison of how R7 does stack up to the og R and R10 to Rp since the prices are almost 1:1 with those so it's more fair comparison imo than to R6. (Both R and Rp are still great deals right now so it just makes a lot of sense to me).
I recently purchased an a 33 my RF F1.4 with IS STM Macro.. for like £549.00. It is brilliant .. perfect for me because I like shooting Macros and the Bokeh is insane on it and it is really good with video - the IS is brilliant for it. It’s the cheapest RF lens yet but for the money, it is brilliant. In fact, you get much more in return for the price.
Ordered mine this a.m. I've been anxiously awaiting this camera for my wildlife photography (although I really want an R1). Shooting with my long lenses at a 1.6X crop factor sure beats using extenders and losing f-stops. The 30 fps is very attractive vs the 20 fps of my R5. I just wish the buffer was a bit bigger. I guess for birds-in-flight, I'll continue to use my R5. I expect that I will now sell my R6. The quality of the photos will determine that. Although I really prefer the R6 over the R5 for astrophotography. We'll see what the low-light images look like on the R7 once I get it. Thanks for the "preview". Looking forward to seeing more from you.
In my country buying a Nikon z5 costs about 1400€ … if canon r7 costs 1500€ or even 1200€ when it comes out I believe that the z5 would be the better choice for the full frame sensor
Not if you’re a sports or wildlife photographer. Z5 is lacking in speed and af, also not as good at video. If you’re a portrait or landscape photographer the Z5 is still a good buy.
hahaha? dude R7 targeting all sports and wildlife photographer,. not some portraits,. when it comes to Portrait studios,. R7 will still better value because of resolution,. in wedding events indoors probably Z5 will do good,. but in video capabilities autofocus,. build quality,. R7 Blows z5 slow poke autofocus with 50% hit rate only in backlighted in entourage,.
@@kenjiyamamoto423 There's still the rendering difference between an APSC and a Full Frame... As for the price, a used Z5 can be found well under 1000$
@@kenjiyamamoto423 I disagree. first of all full frame has a more pleasing rendering especially for portraits and secondly sensor quality in terms of color depth and dynamic range will favor full frame especially when the apsc is a canon. and also there is still no proper high quality lens made for rf crop sensor.

I was seriously considering getting an R6 and then ditching my EF-S glass and basically have to start over, now I'm thinking the R7 is a great option, the feature set is insane for the price point, I'll be able to keep my EF-S glass AND start towards some of the nice new RF too hmmm
Nice to see these mid-range bodies coming into the RF system. The glass was there, and now there’s some good variety that was missing before. Really considering the R7 as a sidekick to the R6.
I would like to go for R10 but Im not sure if I should pick R7 because of IBIS. I would use the camera for handheld photography. What do you suggest, does it worth paing extra to have IBIS?
Excited to get a real look at them! Thanks Jared. Lots to take in. Mostly good, a few odd/interesting. But still planning to preorder an R7 to compliment my R5 for wildlife/Macro photography. Out of curiosity, do you think the BG-R10 Battery Grip will fit the R7? You mentioned the body felt slightly smaller. Want to get a battery grip asap, so it would be great to know ahead of time. Thanks man!
Canon in notorious for doing this, but can the Canon R7 output video to an external recorder and still see the back screen? Also, can you record video to the SD cards while recording with the external recorder? Thanks!
I gotta say that these two cameras are a great start for Canon's foray into their new era of APS-C mirrorless. Let's hope they don't ruin it with their lens selection.
Jared, I have a feeling they are coming out with these two models first to see what the market is like for Aps-c cameras these days. From what I have found out the 7dmkii camera was more expensive when it first came out than the new R7. If the market shows strong sales for these two cameras, I think they will develope a higher end version with stronger pro-like features in the future. I used to be an instore rep for Canon and I always have used the Aps-d cameras even for shooting weddings and I started a mobile portrait studion, where I could shoot print and frame using Canon printers and lights and backdrops! I taught myself this idea while demonstrating Canon cameras and printers in the store setups to demonstrate how well the cameras shoot and the printers print quality photos. Now I have done everything from wedding shoots to sports, air show. and car shows also. It would be nice to see a comparison shoot with the new R7 vs. the R, or the R6 when doing portraits and weddings as well as animal and bird, or landscapes to compare full frame cameras and the Aps-c cameras. That way customers can really see the difference in using both cameras in pro and personal use. I have gotten comfortable using Aps-c cameras for portraits, pro events like weddings and corporate events as well as landscape and sports photography etc. I have yet to see anyone do a real comparison of shots in the same shooting of events. Since you are one of my favorite "Geek" photographers I would definitely like to see you do a comparison shooting event with both style of cameras!
But that will be years away. Canon still has a loooong lead time in between bodies and updates. im tired of waiting and am looking at other brands for my small mirrorless needs. So dissapointed by m62
When the 7D mkii was released it was a tough , genuine pro-grade aps-c camera with the same build quality and a very similar form factor to the 5D mkiii , the canom general purpose pro body of the day . It was so tough that you could just about hammer nails with it and it made a reasonable melee weapon if the event you were shooting turned pear shaped . Unlike the 5D , it had dual processors giving superior speed to the 5d and a flagship level autofocus system . Basically I was hoping for an aps-c R5 .
@@mcmoose64 the body for the 7D and the 7d2 was amazing. Unfortunately my 7D lost focus and Canon wasn't able to fix it so I had to dump it. I tested the 7D2 as soon as it came out and the color from that sensor was disgusting and flat. The body felt amazing, however one session was all it took with some landscapes to end that rental. Yes it was supposed to replace a beloved camera but it was old Tech when it came out and quickly faded away. From my experience with the old rebels to the latest Ms - and this is backed up by some data on other sites, the colors have definitely suffered in their latest iterations of sensors. At least for crop. We all got mad at Canon repurposing the 18 megapixel sensors, but once they got past that, thing started getting funny style with the sensors. I'm taking pictures with the m62 that have such a low color range it makes me wonder is it the sensor, is it camera raw I don't know what it is. But I never had these issues before.. I can pop open images from the old 7D that are absolutely bursting with color. Same thing for the original M mirrorless. I absolutely cannot say the same for the M50 or the m62 that I own as supposed upgrades. The M50 sensor is so noisy that I would never use it for portraits. And the m6 2 suffers from shutter slap even more so because of the high density sensor and no IS. Even with big lenses attached.. the problem is the body mechanism. So now we have these crop bodies much larger than a mirrorless m. Some FF lenses will make sense like a 35 or 70-200, others are not that usable like a 50 because it's just too long on crop. There's no 1.4 lenses that you can use for them either unless you're going to stick on a monstrous FF/RF lens. I feel like it's just in a very weird spot unless you're sitting on EF glass you've been dying to use. And not having stabilization man it is the worst for small cameras especially if they're lightweight. I've been suffering this dilemma for the last 3 years. It sucks.
I'm asking myself if the R7 just beat the RP but I'm having hard time deciding between them full frame or apsc if there is a real difference in image quality and low light capability between the two
For what it's worth, I had the RP for a year then sold it. The RP full frame definitely has a different look in IQ, but I wouldn't say it's better than APS-C. The thing also weighed a ton with RF glass. I found I never used it because it was simply too cumbersome to take anywhere unless I was shooting from the car. I do most of my shooting hiking and camping. So I reverted back to APS-C. (Got the EOS M6ii). Honestly, I think i get better night scape shots with the M6ii. The RP never did it for me at night but during the day - it is good. I suppose if I shot portraits I would have a full frame, but for wildlife and landscape it didn't make sense for me. I don't care about how the camera "feels" in my hands. I just care about portability and image quality. And the slightest image improvement in daylight with full frame just wasn't enough for me to give up portability. Everyone is different though.
I just got the rp 3 days ago . So far I have done 2 shoots . My sons graduation pictures and for portraits it's good very good outside . Have the 50mm 1.8 and the 85mm 1.8 with the kit lens that came with it 24mm -105 cheaper kits lens one. All for like under 2k. I say for probability and fast action I would get r7 . I do family portraits so rp is great for me. Get what works 💪 for ya!
go with the rp if you don't need the 15fps burst and video specs. full frame does indeed have a different look to it that most people find more pleasing. also low light will be cleaner with the rp but what's most important is that all good rf lenses so far are made for full frame, using them on crop sensor will ruin the focal length.
@@rev.chuckshingledecker yeah, the portability of the M line is great. They should make future RF bodies with that size. I'm also happy with the EF-M 11-22mm. I like wide angles and there's no RF S lens of that focal length yet. There's still a market for little cameras. Look at the fuji and Sony a6400 buyers. I hope Canon won't forget us.
@Jared - I don't remember which camera, but shots of the guy on the skateboard don't look right to me. It may just be the TH-cam environment of viewing, but it looks like skater is overlayed onto the background. Does look that way or am I imagining this?
@BeBeingBenMesa I think you need to look a little deeper on Polin. Look at his body of work. There are a lot of good photographer on TH-cam. Jered Polin is one of them. You may not agree with him, but you should consider his analysis and body or work. It may be of value to you and all of us.
We can all agree that The fro is nothing without Steven’s infamous “NO” in the background 😂🤔😆 Thanks Jared for the update always appreciate you and the team 🤙🥃
This is what I was waiting for! I'm gonna get the R7. It's out of my budget, but I still wanna get it. The specs are just too good. Excellent review by the way.
@Robert Reuss you realize the 60-90D had the EF Mount where you can use EF-S lenses or EF FF lenses, if you want F/1.2 lenses for your R7 you can or if you want your 18-45mm lens you can. It’s really smart in a sense of expandability or for beginners that can invest early to the FF system.
@Robert Reuss Sony has small glass.. it makes way more sense to have just one mount. Less manufacturing cost for both in house and 3rd part, easy to upgrade cameras, and less confusion for beginners. I don’t know why you would want separate mounts when you can do ff and apsc on one..
@Robert Reuss Exactly. It's BIG compared to M bodies. and there is no crop equivalent superwide except the VERY old 10-22 (thankfully i have a great copy but still..). There is also no 22/f2 like the M has. I have 3 M bodies and have long adapted my crop/FF lenses (especially the wonderful 35f2 IS). I dont want a bigger crop camera...but the tech in these crops is hard to ignore. ARGRG. + No grips announced, wtf
@@simonmaduxx6777 "There is no 22mm f/2"... so far. But there can be and may be eventually. Canon has a number of ready-made RF-S lens designs in the EF-M and EF-S line-up. The EF-M would be particularly easy to adapt. In fact, I was surprised they didn't and wish they had made an RF-S 15-45mm like exists for the M-system. Why they launched with two lenses both 18mm at the wide end baffles me. At least there is an inexpensive RF 16mm if someone needs wider... Or the can adapt an EF-S 10-22mm or EF-S 10-18mm. Both of those are very good ultrawides.
What's that monitor setup you were using Jared? Looks like handy for the monitor screen with some battery pack, I assume HDMI cable, and I'm confused at the SSD sticker on the back of the monitor
Looking to get into TH-cam / photography and I was thinking about the canon M50 mark ii for starting out. Any tips for that camera? Any specific lenses? I know from research that APS-c cameras are cropped sensors and the 4k isn’t exactly good on the mark ii but not a lot of people watch TH-cam on a computer so it doesn’t really hurt. All these 35 mm , 50 mm etc is so confusing and it’s a lot to take in for someone with no experience! I want to possibly get into freelance photography and TH-cam.
I would suggest not to go with M50 mark ii because M50 is using EF-M lense mount system which as per rumours conon is going to discontinue as they are completely moving to RF lense mount system.
@@Abhijith4593 well the m50 mark ii is a nice affordable camera for someone like me with no experience at all and is just getting their foot in. I just need a affordable camera preferably with a flip screen so I can see what I’m vlogging , and see what photos I’m taking.
I currently use a 90d and i absolutely love it, but now, there is the exact same camera for almost the same price but with way more possibility, this is insane, I want the R7
They might wait for people to buy the R7 first before they bring an update to R6 R5, marketing strat so that people buy more of their new stuff first. MY guess
The question is - are they going to make something more Rebel-like for that $499-579 price range? Does that window still make sense in a smartphone world? Are they gonna leave that to the M mount for now?
To be honest I'm shooting with the Canon RP right now I feel atleast in a year or so when everything is out fully the RP and R will drop alot in price atleast in the used market. And then they still have the canon m series out there. There is a camera in everyone's price point. And then may make a $500 camera but it's just going to be a really cheap camera your would be able to slap expensive lens on 😂
I would think that, if the M line really isn't discontinued, they will keep bodies like the M6 mark ii and stop the M50 now that they have the R10. Unless canon is just so successful right now they can afford to keep everything 😆
@@ElevenAce I have the RP. It's an amazing value full frame camera for stills. No way I'm downgrading sensor size. I doubt the RP will drop in price. It's already the cheapest full frame camera you can buy new.
Trying to work out whether I move the M6 Mkii and buy the R7. Now the m series is dead it seems sensible to change RF Mount but is it that much better than the. M6 Mkii
Two days ago when I heard that R7 and R10 are coming out I got super excited as I didn't expect Canon to release cameras in this range so soon. I thought it'd take a year or two. Currently, I'm using a DSLR EOS 250D and I am not a professional photographer so I was waiting for something in a budget range to come out so I can switch to Mirror-less and RF system, so at that time R10 looked like a pretty good option. However, I was expecting R10 to have a price range of around $600-$700 so that's a bit higher than expectations and it's coming out pretty late - in July, so I will wait and see. As another option for me then is to go for a used Sony mirror-less camera with less price range something like a6400.
@@SalmanNaseer huh??? a6400?? r10 going to blow a6400 in bird photography,. in all aspects,. those 15fps and 23fps electronic,. haven't you seen the autofocus??? a6400 can never match that r10 autofocus,.
Man, owning a $4000 camera like canon R5 suddenly looks pale to what Canon has started to release. Ladies and gentleman, we are entering the era of mirrorless camera wars between manufacturers again. Brace for Nikon releasing Z7 next gen with 20fps crop at just for 1500 bucks. Batman vs superman begins 😁😁
Thank you for pointing out the AF is NOT the same as the 'R3, which I've seen mentioned elsewhere. This claim often seems to surface with a new release, like with the admittedly impressive Sony A7III in which many reviewers gushed that it had the same AF as the flagship at that time, the A9. It didn't and doesn't.
Just like these cameras, the AF system shares operation with the a9, but Sony didn't even say it was the "same" system. Both use a 24mp BSI sensor, and both used the same technology for AF, but as with the R3 vs the R5, because they have similar programming, they don't have the same performance. Sony didn't even mention the a9 in their press release. And, since I was at the press launch for the a7 III as a journalist, I heard Sony say that the a7 III shared the AF system with the a9, but wasn't as powerful as the a9 due to differences in processor and pipeline.
@@anthonyc1883 I read it and I appreciate you said that reviewers gushed over it-not that Sony said it. I wanted to make clear for people reading this, who are not you and me, that the reviewers didn't gush based on claims from Sony. TH-cam comments lack the subtly of conversations. :)
Would you get the R7 or the R at the same price point? R5 and R6 are still a bit too pricy. Just purchased the R because I want the full frame and extra sensitivity for light.
What do you think low light performance will be like compere to some lower end full frame cameras like eos rp I mean that sensor is old but still full frame do you think that R7 will mech that lvl of low light performance?
Full frame will always better overall in low light performance. But to each their own on how they take photos/edit etc. I'm using a (dare I say it) a MFT camera. That sensor is small. And I managed to do well with my line of work.
A full frame is still full frame. You can't beat physics at the end of the day. You can work around it's limitations but you are handicapped from the get-go on a smaller sensor.
This R7 is enough for me demote my 90D to a secondary body for my sports shoots. Looking forward to it. I’ve always have been a fan of the 1.6x crop factor for that purpose.
Honest question, what do people use a second body for? The R7 will do sports as well, probably better. Why not sell it and get something else for the money?
@@julius4858 well for me, Im after a third for wedding films so I can have every angle and coverage. for photos not so much, but if your doing weddings, events or something where you want access to two different lenses at instance its helpful

Unlike the 5D , it had dual processors giving superior speed to the 5d and a flagship level autofocus system . I need to learn to manage my expectations , but basically I was hoping for an aps-c version of the R5 .
I mean, other than video capabilities, the R7 is a solid APSC camera. In terms of pixel density alone, it's the most pixel-dense sensor in the Canon lineup by a large margin. It's rocking the same processor as all the top end R lines, has a similar AF to the R5/R6, weathersealed build, and even sports things that the R5/R6 doesn't even have.
The R7 has the dual card slots so it's a viable option for second shooters at weddings. In a pinch it could be a primary camera but it's not ideal because you lose the stop of light but for a second shooter that's in better lighting it's completely usable, and higher ISOs aren't really going to be a problem with the newer processor. The R10 is pretty impressive too, especially at that price! Sports shooters could use either one and do just fine. These are a couple of winners. They're not for everyone or for every situation but they're incredibly versatile!
If you think about it, they didn't really have a choice. The level of AF that's expected now outstrips the old processors they used to pass off in the old bodies. Canon treats the non-professional lines as a kind of beating stick, whipping out useful features here and there for the sake of market segmentation. Us Cannon diehards know this practice well, and it most often results in peculiar missing features for No object reason. For instance, the lack of is or the sensor cover mechanism in the r10. These bodies are more similar or not, and high density old style CMOS sensors are still going to have issues with pixel smearing resulting in files that are just not as sharp. At this point I'm looking at my old 18 megapixel canons like they are now gold because I know that the colors and the sharpness done I expect is going to be there. From now on whenever Canon drops a really good model that does what I need to do, I'm buying too. Because waiting to see what Canon does in the future is purely an exercise and frustration. I'm looking at the r7 and that's not even a camera that I want. Only because I need those features. But it's a crop camera. The R6 only has 20megapixel..aggrggrg. Really grinds my gears
It's not a new sensor. Does anyone read the reviews or is everyone brain dead. Seriously, if you want to type shite go to Twitter, that's what it is for. The sensor is from the 90D with a few tweeks, allegedly. It's the sensors that they had lying around but couldn't sell more 90D's, jeez.
CanonUSA has mentioned that you can streaming live through TH-cam with the R10. Built in live streaming, without even connect to HDMI or streaming software.
at first I was like missing IBIS on R10 seems kinda like it would kill it for most people, then I realized its really targeted toward steamers and other content creators who just setup a camera on a tripod and it never moves and this allows to them save some cash on not having IBIS and maybe buy better glass with that cash.
Finally the only difference between the high end and entry level are full frame and shutter speed. (Why its still gated to 1/4000 idk) Everything else is unified. You can get the same images from an R3 and an R10 without having to invest a house into photography just to get decent results. That changes everything. FINALLY cameras are smart and the only difference is resolution.
I will be watching for the Sony response to the system. Sony is way ahead with glass and I expect Canon will be bringing on new glass late this year or next. I will wait for the glass
Sony is NOT well ahead with glass. There's far more EF glass than Sony glass period. EF + RF glass heavily outnumbers anything Sony has. You can use all of your existing EF glass on any R body with the adaptor too, and you don't lose any AF performance or AE performance either by all accounts. And that old L series EF glass is pretty damn top notch. Stop spouting nonsense and lies.
@@kenjiyamamoto423 thank you. Some people just like to push their favourite marque and bad mouth competitors. I like to call them out for their BS. Any modern camera can take awesome pictures, it's the photographer behind the camera that dictates how good the final image is. I'd happily own a Sony A1, Nikon Z9 or Canon R5 without any hesitation for any of the 3 brands. If I was rich that is.
@@davepastern That’s not how it works, you don’t include adapted glass, Sony E can also use EF glass with adapter but you probably would not count that with it. When you look at system you only look at glass actually made for the system especially as hardly anyone would actually consider adapted glass when buying into a new system, so adapted glass is pretty irrelevant, and then Z mount would actually win because it can use it all. So yes E mount has most glass, but the biggest advantage is not as much in variety as it’s in third part support. I really hope Canon and Nikon allow licensing as Sony do because it means you get cheap glass as well as lenses like the 35-150/2-2.8 Tamron something your otherwise is unlikely to have in your line up.
As an M50 user that's thinking about upgrading to the R line, this is awesome news. I was thinking of stepping up to a full frame like the RP or even just the R but man these 2 cameras are grabbing my attention more than ever. I was leaning towards the RP more (because I'm a cheap ass) but the fps of 5 mech and 4 elec was insanely low, the M50 is at 10fps for crying out loud, not that I need that much but it helps when I do! Probably score one of these cameras especially because of the unification of the lens mounts!
I've had the RP for a long time now and it's an ok camera. It really was them getting their foot wet in the RF line up... If you doing photography with portraits, or low light then the RP would make more sense. But the tracking on it kinda lets me down at times and I haven't seen them really care to send firmware updates to fix it even more.
Its not great for me and my 3 M's. These are bigger rebel+ sized bodies. Theres no lenses from canon to take advantage of that mount (crop 1.4) and have max DOF control. I have bags specifically for 1 or 2 M's + lenses. A bigger rebel just means a heavier bag. but the lack is r10 IS really grinds my gears!
Also looking to upgrade to one of these. I was going to go with the R6 but since this has the crop sensor like the m50 i feel it will be more natural of a switch
even before the launch having the same feeling...Lets see how the pricing will be once it hits the market..Hoping to buy after sometime in a discount during holidays :D
@@DJ.1001 It's not basically the same camera, not even close. Full width 4K oversampled from 6K with dual pixel AF vs cropped 4K with bad AF in M50. Fast burst rate and much better autofocus overall + joystick. Price is not double, in UK is 589 vs 899.
I am a bit disappointed with the R7 . I am looking to replace my 7Dmkii . I was hoping for a state of the art aps-c sensor in a solid pro grade body . What we got was a mirrorless 90d . Sure , it is better , by far , in every way than the 7Dmkii but still , I was hoping for more . I will have to wait for independent head to head comparisons with the competition before deciding . A high res' full frame that shoots in crop mode may be the way to go for me , even if I have to settle for a used one .
We really have to see what these sensors are doing. Im willing to bet thy are repurposed old sensors from the m62 (bad, greyish color) and the m50 (noisy at all iso). I have both, and the original M colors beat them both, very badly. I am not exaggerating. The original M has been with me through multiple countries, paid jobs, you name it. The Colors are WONDERFUL..the af is slow but accurate. The performance of the m50 and m62 has been so bad I have used them both on a total of 2 shoots in three years! No IS really really hurts, especially as they both suffer from shutter slap with their high density crop sensors. They have me between a rock and a hard place. It is a tall ask that these are really new sensors in here.
Personally I think they had an APS-C platform in the M mount. I get that you can use the RF glass but if you don't have a full frame sensor then why would you need the full frame glass
Extra reach, works for sports or in my case, wildlife. I just got a Sigma 150-600mm which is equivalent to 240-960mm on my crop sensor camera. Will 100% get the R7 as soon as it's available since it's so much of an upgrade from what I have
Going forward, all Canon interchangeable lens cameras will eventually be the R-series mirrorless. This is just one of the steps toward that goal. Canon is phasing out their APS-C M-series, which uses it's own unique EF-M mount lenses that can't be adapted for use on the R-series. The M-series cameras are sort of like PowerShot G-series point n shoots, but with interchangeable lenses (except they have never made a lot if lenses for them). Canon is also phasing out their EF-mount DSLRs (both APS-C and full frame), though the EF and EF-S lenses they use adapt very well for use on the R-series. You have it backwards...if you have a full frame camera, it basically only makes sense to use full frame lenses. But if you have a crop sensor camera you can use both full frame lenses and crop design lenses. There aren't many of the latter for the R-series yet, but in time there will be more. Besides, did you notice Jared shooting with that full frame RF 100-400mm lens, that's not a whole lot bigger that the crop only EF-S 55-250mm, but is a whole lot more powerful!
Looking to upgrade should i get this R10 or the Eos RP ? There both around the same price with the lens kit and i will be upgrading from a T6i lol I just take pics as a hobby and memories no pro level stuff.
Great preview! Those are some sweet camera bodies. I'm very impressed with what Canon did. The tracking of the birds through the trees was insane. The soccer video at the end... Lmao. Awesome

They AF maybe better than a Z9 it has a tiny sensor has less data to offload, I'm not so bothered as I don't just hold a button and have the camera wipe my butt for me. I believe the Z9has way more processing power than canon or sony so nikon engineers need to tap that power for more accurate AF for people like you
Does R10 or R7 has this option? In a normal mode, the SINGLE SHOT AF and SPOT AF modes are active (center focus, beep, compose, click) and when I press the AF-ON Button, the camera turns to SERVO AF and FACE TRACKING or EYE TRACKING? I can program it on my R6 using C.Fn3 Menu, and Customize Buttons option. Thank in advance Jared! :)
Yes I did question whether or not the AF in the R7 and R10 is sticker then the Nikon Z9
Of course you did…
Lol Nikon burly got auto focus in the z9. They are slowly catching up.

Ok so Canon now has the bodies. Now all they have to do is support them with proper APSC glass like a 16-55 f2.8 or a 10-24mm f2.8 maybe a 16mm f1.8 and a 35mm f1.8. Instead of making us buy expensive RF lenses.

Do you know if a camera grip will be available for the R7?
How does the autofocus compare with the latest Sony aps-c cameras
I'm like you. I think the buffer could be a deal breaker for me but I'm on the fence.
The ball is not round at 24:56? CMOS readout speeds too slow?
Electronic shutter, not a stacked sensor

Does the R7 have 10-bit 4:2:2?
I was seriously considering getting an R6 and then ditching my EF-S glass and basically have to start over, now I'm thinking the R7 is a great option, the feature set is insane for the price point, I'll be able to keep my EF-S glass AND start towards some of the nice new RF too hmmm
Canon currently has my 7DII replacing the shutter. Think they'll make a mistake and send me an R7 instead when they go to send it back?
@david render why?
@david render Bigger sensor, faster processor, faster FPS, faster cards, better ISO range....yeah, that would be TRAGIC... /s
R7 seems nice. I like full frame, but I’d snag one for a backup body. The price seems very fair.
I'm thinking the same!
Nice to see these mid-range bodies coming into the RF system. The glass was there, and now there’s some good variety that was missing before. Really considering the R7 as a sidekick to the R6.
So I have an M50 but am looking to make this more than a hobby but don’t have the skills to go pro. Which would you recommend for someone like me?
Based on the record limit removals, do you think we will see a similar firmware update on the R5/R6?
I would like to go for R10 but Im not sure if I should pick R7 because of IBIS.
I would use the camera for handheld photography.
What do you suggest, does it worth paing extra to have IBIS?
Nice review! This is the crop frame I’ve been waiting for. It will pair nicely with my 100-500.
So what would be the best budget zoom lenses for the r7?
Excited to get a real look at them! Thanks Jared.
Lots to take in. Mostly good, a few odd/interesting. But still planning to preorder an R7 to compliment my R5 for wildlife/Macro photography.
Out of curiosity, do you think the BG-R10 Battery Grip will fit the R7? You mentioned the body felt slightly smaller. Want to get a battery grip asap, so it would be great to know ahead of time. Thanks man!
Is the 1080p video on either of these downsampled from a higher res as well?
Canon in notorious for doing this, but can the Canon R7 output video to an external recorder and still see the back screen? Also, can you record video to the SD cards while recording with the external recorder? Thanks!
I gotta say that these two cameras are a great start for Canon's foray into their new era of APS-C mirrorless.
Let's hope they don't ruin it with their lens selection.
Well the 2 kit lenses don’t show any ambition.
1 is useless the other a reused product with an price hike.
Kind of off topics but what electronic viewfinder are you using?
Jared, I have a feeling they are coming out with these two models first to see what the market is like for Aps-c cameras these days. From what I have found out the 7dmkii camera was more expensive when it first came out than the new R7. If the market shows strong sales for these two cameras, I think they will develope a higher end version with stronger pro-like features in the future. I used to be an instore rep for Canon and I always have used the Aps-d cameras even for shooting weddings and I started a mobile portrait studion, where I could shoot print and frame using Canon printers and lights and backdrops! I taught
myself this idea while demonstrating Canon cameras and printers in the store setups to demonstrate how well the cameras shoot and the printers print quality photos.
Since you are one of my favorite "Geek" photographers I would definitely
like to see you do a comparison shooting event with both style of cameras!

Get what works 💪 for ya!
low light rp is gonna be above. video r7 is gonna be above
go with the rp if you don't need the 15fps burst and video specs. full frame does indeed have a different look to it that most people find more pleasing. also low light will be cleaner with the rp but what's most important is that all good rf lenses so far are made for full frame, using them on crop sensor will ruin the focal length.
@@rev.chuckshingledecker yeah, the portability of the M line is great. They should make future RF bodies with that size. I'm also happy with the EF-M 11-22mm. @Jared - I don't remember which camera, but shots of the guy on the skateboard don't look right to me. It may just be the TH-cam environment of viewing, but it looks like skater is overlayed onto the background. Does look that way or am I imagining this?

Very interesting to see crop sensor cameras with an RF mount
It's a good thing, isn't it? After all, Sony has both full frame and APS-C In their e-mount... And Nikon has both formats in their Z-mount.

I got an EOS R a year or 2 back.. now my EOS R looks not only pale, but irrelevant with these newer cameras. 😅
And what about autofocus in video? Does it have the same features And Speed as When shooting?
The question is - are they going to make something more Rebel-like for that $499-579 price range? Does that window still make sense in a smartphone world? Are they gonna leave that to the M mount for now?
To be honest I'm shooting with the Canon RP right now I feel atleast in a year or so when everything is out fully the RP and R will drop alot in price atleast in the used market. And then they still have the canon m series out there. There is a camera in everyone's price point. Maybe a R100 in the future, maybe next year. I don't think they'll keep the two mounts.
I would think that, if the M line really isn't discontinued, they will keep bodies like the M6 mark ii and stop the M50 now that they have the R10. Unless canon is just so successful right now they can afford to keep everything 😆

@@davidschloss2656 I'm not suggesting it was a claim by Sony. Please re-read my comment.

@@davidschloss2656 Indeed they do not! ;-)
im very interested in what your autofocus settings are.
i also have an r5 and am trying to get my settings right and like the way yours works
Finally!😍
Does anyone know what the r7 focus points layout looks like?
This R7 is enough for me demote my 90D to a secondary body for my sports shoots. Looking forward to it.
I’ve always have been a fan of the 1.6x crop factor for that purpose.
Demoting the Panasonic S5 and Sony A7IV as well.
Definitely was thinking bout replacing my 90D as well
@@jezzacreative same here
Honest question, what do people use a second body for? The R7 will do sports as well, probably better. Why not sell it and get something else for the money?
@@julius4858 well for me, Im after a third for wedding films so I can have every angle and coverage. for photos not so much, but if your doing weddings, events or something where you want access to two different lenses at instance its helpful
Wow, the question that I have is should I go with the r7 instead of my r6 for birding and macro photography?
Absolutely. It is equivalent of 80mpx full frame. Cropping is on another level with this (coming from a 90D owner)
This is the dream camera for wildlife
When the 7D mkii was released it was a tough , genuine pro-grade aps-c camera with the same build quality and a very similar form factor to the 5D mkiii , the Canon general purpose pro body of the day . It was so tough that you could just about hammer nails with it and it made a reasonable melee weapon if the event you were shooting turned pear shaped . Unlike the 5D , it had dual processors giving superior speed to the 5d and a flagship level autofocus system .
I need to learn to manage my expectations , but basically I was hoping for an aps-c version of the R5 .
Yes,give us all a pro level apsc not a consumer one,how long can we wait.
@@waynedettman6472 No long if Sony step up. I never thought I would say it but it's like Canon is taking the piss. How long are we meant to wait?
@@M.Greenwalt the weather sealing is sub-standard, try reading reviews, they will help.
@@doghouseriley4732 nah,might save for r5 and use 1.4 extender.
Jared any word if they will have a battery grip for the R7 & R10 and when?
The R7 has the dual card slots so it's a viable option for second shooters at weddings. In a pinch it could be a primary camera but it's not ideal because you lose the stop of light but for a second shooter that's in better lighting it's completely usable, and higher ISOs aren't really going to be a problem with the newer processor. The R10 is pretty impressive too, especially at that price! Sports shooters could use either one and do just fine. These are a couple of winners. They're not for everyone or for every situation but they're incredibly versatile!
why do we lose a stop of light ?
@@mp7a The crop sensor in the camera is what causes it.
So R6 is still better than the r7 for low light because it's full frame and bigger sensor ? I'm about to buy r6 and then this showed up
@@beauledesma3363 yeah for photography R6 is better value in weddings,. R7 is a perfect camera as a backup for eos R6,.
@@beauledesma3363 yes, full frame will perform better in low light. Get the R6 if that's a consideration.
I must have missed it, did you mention the buffer size of how many shots before filling up?
Canon needs to put out an update allowing the R6, and R5 to have unlimited record time as well! Now that we know the processor can handle it.
Not exactly apples to apples though…. Sensor size is a thing. Full frame is processing a lot more information vs aspc camera.
@@dustykillian1 That's a good point! I'm still hopeful, but that is probably a road block for it!
How would you compare it to the x-t4 and h2s ?
Good seeing them putting the new processors in the crop sensor range! Hopefully they do that with the z9 processor on next gen
I'd love to see that as well. Like a mirrorless D500
Nikon Z90 please
CMOS 26mpixels BSI stacked with ibis
Video 6k 60 or 120fps in N-Raw
Z shield and Z7 form factor

Big buffer
@@simonmaduxx6777 I wish someone would deliver a stills camera and miss out the fecking video
CanonUSA has mentioned that you can streaming live through TH-cam with the R10. Built in live streaming, without even connect to HDMI or streaming software.
canon is killing it
Not with these shit cameras
How was the buffer? Take lo g to clear? At 15 fps it'll save me from having to process so many images.
at first I was like missing IBIS on R10 seems kinda like it would kill it for most people, then I realized its really targeted toward steamers and other content creators who just setup a camera on a tripod and it never moves and this allows to them save some cash on not having IBIS and maybe buy better glass with that cash.
In your opinion, does the R10 replace the RP? or is there still a place for the RP?
The RP is full frame, so there isn't a replacement yet. There's no number between R6 and R7, so who knows if there will be an RPII or what.
Finally the only difference between the high end and entry level are full frame and shutter speed. (Why its still gated to 1/4000 idk)
Everything else is unified. You can get the same images from an R3 and an R10 without having to invest a house into photography just to get decent results. That changes everything. FINALLY cameras are smart and the only difference is resolution.
R7 does 1/8000 mechanical and 1/16000 electronic but yes, R10 is limited to 1/4000
Would the v60 sd cards work with the R7?
Great informative video ✨ 👌
I've had the T6s for years and have wanted to get a mirrorless camera for awhile. Would the R7 be a good choice for the switch? Thanks!
@@davepastern True,.
Identical situation here. I’m thinking being patient for the R10 over buying a used R is the right move so I can spend the extra money on new glass.
Lol we all in the same boat with being M users. I think I'm a try to get the R7 with the 18-150 lens or just get a adapter to with with my EFS lens
Finally no recording limit! R7 will be very popular!
I feel like the R10 is gonna be a great upgrade for M50 users that want a little more without breaking the bank.
Not really unless they are sports oriented. You need to junk all your lenses
even before the launch having the same feeling...Lets see how the pricing will be once it hits the market..Hoping to buy after sometime in a discount during holidays :D
Is it though? It's basically the same camera with a few modern upgrades at double the price.
Got one question for you, should I replace my M50 mark 2 to R7 or R 10 ?Thanks.
Is the sensor different from the 90d?
What is the buffer rate for the R5 again?
@@alanm.4298 The R mount is 1 cm wider so one can never have as compact lenses and cameras with the R mount.

canon r10 and 50 mm 1.8 both no image stabilization. still a good combo for photos?
First.
Are they going to be making battery grips for the R7 and R10? Like the one for the R?
Second.
On the bright side they are no longer segregating mounts for APS-C and its just full RF
