Not really. The Bugatti Veyron broke 250 mph with 1000 hp some 20 odd years ago. Still quite impressive for the Corvette
@@aventusV33 Yes really. Over 850HP and 220 or higher top Speed is a Hypercar. Period. How Expensive and or Rare it is has nothing to do with the title of Hypercar. It's a Performance capability level category.
Yes, the Veyron was an incredible piece of engineering to be sure...but it retailed for almost 2 million at the time. In today's dollars that would be about $3.6 million. The ZR1 will probably spec under $300K @@aventusV33

Weight won't have that big of an effect tbf. Otherwise Bugatti would've really struggled with top speed runs considering they are like 500-700 kgs heavier than the competition.

As a proud owner of a C8 Corvette, I can't stress enough how much of an achievement for American automotive engineering this car is. Congratulations GM for achieving such an accomplishment, I can't wait to see this car racing against other super cars and placing America at the top of Motorsports.

Incredible achievement from the Corvette team. And amazing dedication to provide such amazing performance at such a value. Chevy could easily ask $500K for this monster....and people would pay it....but they don't and I think that's what makes Chevy and the whole team special.

they couldnt ask 500k, it would fail to sell horribly. 300k would be the limit on MSRP that people are willing to pay but that would severely reduce the number of buyers

I've been sour on Corvette since they ditched the tail lights, and bragged about how their front engine is as good as mid-engine cars, only to flip-flop and make the Corvette rear engined (slapping 50+ years of tradition in the face)
But 233mph, with a passenger, is a feat. Can't be sour about that.

Is there a stock production car that has a top speed of 230 mph or greater, for less than $1 million dollars?
The closest to a true Ford GT competitor is here and it absolutely blows it out of the water. Top speed of the Ford GT is 216mph this is significantly faster. Man when the C6 ZR1 came out in late 2008 I was utterly mind blown that it could hit 205mph and then again with the C7 ZR1 doing 212mph. This is just unprecedented. For comparison a $3 million Pagani Huayra tops off at 237mph. $6 million Bugatti Divo tops off at 236 mph. This Corvette is within a couple of mph of HYPERCARS! What a machine GM, WHAT A MACHINE!!!

What a phenominal engineering achievement for a production super car in this price bracket. Full-on hyper car performance for a fraction of the price of its competitors! Easily the best Corvette ZR1, to date, and considering it may very well be the last strictly internal combustion version, it's the absolute best ever! You really nailed it, GM! Incredible.

Maybe they were going for real-world conditions. Chances are some people who purchase this vehicle may be over 200 lbs. Excellent work again, putting a second person in. Again, real-world conditions. It also leaves the door open for a thin person who does not have a passenger, possibly accelerating or driving faster than that top speed.
@@just_some_internet_guy very true. The vast majority of people who buy Corvettes are retired old men. As a matter of fact, I think the youngest person I have ever seen driving a Corvette was 54. Even Chevy knows that the only people who buy Corvettes are experiencing a midlife crisis. Although I will admit , a Corvette with Supercar status will start attracting a younger crowd.... so long as the Corvette never achieves Supercar prices
