    Nice solo video Josh. I'd recommend keeping an eye on the surrounding plastics though, hairdryers can still cook or distort plastic/wiring if left in the same area for too long or on too high a setting.

      Thanks!! When I tested it a few days before to see what I was dealing with, I removed the hairdryer every few minutes to make sure nothing was melting.

    note if you got halogen lamps just keep high beans on then when hot enaugh just take off rubber seal. Will dry by itself in 5 minutes. Not too sure if projector or LED do the same since heat might be not that high.

      That’s a good point! Thanks! Should have included that, unfortunately I don’t think it works for the leds as they don’t get too hot

    Funny you've released this video as I need to take care of the same problem on one of my tail lights on my F56 mini cooper. The thing I am afraid is this could've done damage to the controller since the light went into safe mode (light is dimmer basically) and is throwing error messages on the dash for the whole module (blinker, reverse light and tail light). Do you think something similar could help fixing it ? By looking into the rear service hatch inside of the car, I've noticed a ton of frozen condensation (on both the left and right side). The temps here in Quebec have been pretty wild with lows in the -30's during the night and into the -10's during the day. I might gonna have to change a couple of seals around the car altogether to fix this around spring.

    • @carcreationsyt
      @carcreationsyt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perfect timing!! The condensation was messing with the electronics in my lights too. I didn’t mention it in the video but I was getting all sorts of error codes to do with the lights. Drying out the lights helped and all the codes have gone away and not come back since. I think if you gave it a shot that would definitely help. In the spring I also plan on completely pulling both lights out and redoing seals and inspecting for other cracks.

    @running_rich ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this video. I have a '17 330i with adaptive LED assembles. I figured there would be no access to drying out the unit, but on top of mine there is a 3" round cap that comes out, that's where I placed the heat gun on low. The lens has a minor crack, but water got in after driving in the rain. After drying out I'll seal the crack with clear epoxy. The first inspection station said I'd fail with a cracked headlight. But after no more condensation and sealing it neatly I'll try some other stations. Fingers crossed, as my new assembly costs over $1,800!

    I wouldn't recommend using silicone on that seal. It will make it very difficult to remove the bulb in future. I have a 2007 E83 x3 and I have recently replaced both my headlight front polycarbonte plastics. I used butyl rubber strips (avail eBay) and a small heat gun. When removing the old plastic lenses don't overlook that there are probably a number of torx PK screws some hidden behind two bent rubber air vents. It wouldn't have been too difficult to cut out s new round seal for that blub out of some similar material.

    The reason the headlights are cracked is because your shutting the bonnet down wrong, just lower it till it stops on the catch then give it a push down on both sides at once, never drop it down from any height.😊

    • @carcreationsyt
      @carcreationsyt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We had a friend that dented his hood by pushing it down, so we’re trying to stay away from that. I think the headlights cracked from living up a 6km long mountain dirt road.

    The openings in headlights are a feature mentioned in the manuals…. RTM… If you close the tiny openings, you close it off which then can lead to other issues.
