Very good I’ve never seen anything recording the coil coupler prior to this. I have plenty of coil coupler post war cars & four 2023 engines. But I only run them and do not cycle the uncouple feature. Still interesting on their maintenance. Thank you
James, Thanks! I have a switcher, 6250, with these couplers. Mine randomly uncouples when passing over the decoupler track and doesn't regularly open on command. Do you have any ideas? Also, I notice that the power pickups spark quite a bit when running down the track (Fast Track). The rollers rotate freely and track in new. Thanks,
Thank you for watching! Excessive sparking can be caused by a dirty armature in the motor or worn out brushes which causes higher amp draw. I would check those first. Make sure the motor, wheels & gears are oiled and greased properly. The random uncoupling event you mention, is the uncoupling track section also Fast Track or the older Lionel UCS track? If it is the older UCS track check the control buttons. Sometimes the contact separators break over time and then any movement or vibration can trigger the uncoupling action. You can also have a loose connection on the un-coupler section energizing the slide shoe rails and causing random events. Is this the only locomotive with the same couplers that has this happen or does it happen with other locomotives or cars?
Hey jim! So helpful! Thanks, and how would you recommend repairing the coupler wire leading to the slide shoe if casing is cracked in some spots? Maybe some quik plastic?
For a quick repair I always use "Liquid Tape" by Gardner and paint on as many coats as needed, works great! I have purchased at Amazon and Home Depot. Thank you for watching and commenting!

If you have a new pin then you can grind off the underside of the old pin with a file or moto tool until the splayed out portion of the pin is removed and then the pin should pull out from the top side. If you want to reuse the pin then you need to reform the underside of the pin using a pair of needle nose pliers and squeeze around the pin until the splayed out portion is cylindrical once again. Then you should be able to pull the pin out easily. Hope that helps and thanks for the question and for watching!
