Seeing a lot of comments about "frame generation" being on:
1) i ended up turning it on/off several times after recording the settings menu to test it
2) closeup images are captured using photo mode, so even if it was enabled, it wouldnt impact anything. Photo mode wont freeze a generated frame in place with artifacting
Frame gen is basically only ever used in this video during those sound comparison sections to demonstrate the smoothness of the gameplay versus the old 30fps fidelity mode on ps5. I'm well aware of the disadvantages of frame gen, but even still - artifacting is not nearly as prevalent as it was when this feature was first introduced
How to enable frame gen in game
Well said my friend
Inthe options but you need geforce 4xxx to use it@@Afroz10x
Then you might want to increase your sharpening. You set it to 5 on PC, PS5 might just have a higher value for that.
I'm waiting for your Comparison of S.T.A.l.K.E.R 2007-2009 VS. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2.
The fact that cross gen games can look this good makes me think that very few ps5 titles actually utilize the hardware adequately. Devs used to need to optimize around hardware limitations but now the solution is FSR and a pro version of a console that’s had very few major exclusives that aren’t also ps4 games
I think it is more of the fact that the PS5 is using essentially the same hardware that is used on the PC. Just a much much weaker version so that it can fit in a console and stay within the much smaller power constraints of the PS5
Developers statement is, that the PS5 is not at the limit and PS5 pro is too early. And i also agree. People looking too much to naked hardware specs. But you have to use them. It is a waste of hardware if you jumping on a next more powerful hardware when you not have reached the peak. It also makes optimization worse (also for PC at the end)
@@supremancy
Yes, but even without an operating system that eats up resources and does things in the background.
It's also interesting that a lot of the cross gen games that have versions for both PS4 and PS5 (like HFW, GoW Ragnarok, Ghost of Tsushima) run very well. Meanwhile we got recent titles like Dragons Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin that can either barely run 30 fps or have to have major drops in resolution for performance mode.
the crazy thing is that sony first party developers can pull these kind of graphics out of a ps5 just think about the potential of a 4090 if a developer really knew what they were doing.
Finally, I’ve been waiting for this video. I’m so glad this game is finally out in PC.
Sony should always send you review copies.
Yea, agreed. I’m a pc guy but I’ve been playing all the recent Sony games on pc in 32:9 and I love it. Just finished dats gone and a rift apart and loved it!Horizon Zero Dawn is next
Horizon2 looks like black magic on a Ps4 Pro
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how good game graphics have become!😘
The skin on Aloys close-ups just boggles my mind.
Graphic is good, but game itself not so good. Zero Dawn felt noticeably more... finished? Like if I needed to get somewhere I walked there, it makes for good immersion. But in Forbidden West some of such travels are just cutscenes and lot of events are just hard-scripted, often Aloy just taking in dialogues by herself, game didn't give as much dialogue choices than fist part did. It feels like I not controlling character as much. It breaks immersion a lot.
Also key bindings on PC is kinda awfull, double click on any movement key jumps in that direction, tab open map, F opent weapon selector, r use item. After playing fist part this is very, very distracting, and at this moment there is no possibility to change key bindings. Game needs a few patches.
@@user-ut4vl8bw2k there is just a more cinematic feel to the game. It is wanted not an matter ff finished or not.
Theres loads of games that came out this generation with bad graphics.
still quite rare
The 'Decima engine' is just incredible, Death Stranding also runs great.
There barely anything going on on death stranding. Of course it will run great
@@GForceIntel Well, Forbidden West is a different story and it runs excellent 👍🏽
@s0ad29 It's the developer, not the engine.
Im still impressed how well optimised was HFW for PS5 looking amazing and running great at VRR. I wish more games would be like that.
Horizon2 looks like black magic on a Ps4 Pro

And that's why I buy Playstation Exclusives (the ones I like) Day One, because I like to support developers so that the business works and they continue creating technical wonders
Playstation studios knows how to make games. They are up there with the very best studios .
Yes its incredible ps5 is around max getting or close to it thats very incredible that he can run with vrr at 40fps
Decima engine is god tier. I cant believe it ran so well on my ps4 slim, then after buying ps5 i played it again. Hats off to the devs for optimisation. PC version also looks great.
The PC version seems to have a graphic setting bug, setting the details lower than actually selected.
No, I think it's just better able to be optimised on console. And since it's a console api exclusive optimised for the PS5 hardware

did you try using the default anti-aliasing instead of DLAA? I know DLAA is supposed to be the ultimae AA solution but for comparison sake you should have used the default since the PS5 cant do DLAA. The loss of detail on PC might be caused by DLAA.
Pc verson has graphics bug. they wouldn't reduce quality for pc. texture will be fixed in future updates. marvel's spider-man also had similler kind of graphics bug .
Yup idk if they fixed it in todays patch
still not good that it has that bug also wht with the building but on console it still not fixed ?
i hope they do.. bcoz at 7:28 aloy's face looks better then the pc
Love your work nick! keep it up 👌
hello mate ! great comparison like always , hope to see PC version gets some fixes for the Graphic issues :( should not be like this for a PC game , one question tho can you please tell me what software and with what settings do you use to Record gameplays ? they look SO detailed and clean , what bitrate etc
Hi Nick930, great Direct Comparison & I’m excited for your Prince Of Persia Documentary but I would like to suggest something,
I think there’s one RPG series that you’ve probably never covered on your channel. I don’t know if you are a fan of this series but I think you should try out the JRPG series Persona from Atlus, not just a documentary but also for other content you make in general including direct comparisons, one I think you should try is a direct the original version of Persona 3 from 2006 & Persona 3 Reload. So, I would like to ask if you would have a go with Persona content on your channel?
Anyone know what happened to this channel? The guy uploads at least once a month, especially if there's something new out, but he hasn't uploaded in 2 months.
I don't have a Twitter account, so I can't tell what he has posted there.
Edit: Woops, always make sure you've checked everything before asking lol. Just checked his community tab right after posting this.
Great video!
Damn Forbidden West graphics are surreal.
The Horizon serie became one of my most beloved games. I love the universe, the combats,...
Kudos to Guerrilla Games !
Crazy how FW is a cross gen game as well. Just shows that game devs are not using the PS5 hardware to it's maximum potential. It's a bad joke that DD2 runs at 30 FPS on the PS5 and XBSX when 99% of other games run at a smooth 60 on them.
Is it true the "shadow quality" set to anything other than off causes severe stuttering inside caves or in other words in indoor environments?
Didnt experience anything remotely like that. But it might be an issue with some other configurations if thats being reported as an issue.
@@Nick930 hopefully I’ll have a chance to test it tonight. I’m running a 4090 and it’s annoying me experiencing this. I’m suspecting reflex too but we'll see

Ps: Aaparently Photo Mode is bugged in Alloy's Model.
The gameplay itself the model quality are the same as PS5.
But once you enter in Photomode in PS5, the model changes to a Cutscene quality version, while in the PC, it still uses the Gameplay quality version. It's a bug in photomode, not a Downgrade, since the cutscenes uses the same high quality cutscene version as in PS5.
This game honestly has some of the best cutscrnes. I love how characters move around and stuff even in minor cutscenes unlike games like Stanfield with fixed views. So immersive. I just destroyed hades and having a great time playing it for the first time on PC. Awesome game
I just finished playing BG3 and began Forbidden West, and I find I'm watching the characters, not sitting there reading text and waiting for the NPCs to finish talking because I feel bad skipping the voice lines people worked so hard on lol
@@K.C-2049 lol same here. I feel so bad skipping dialogue… and I’m a big mass effect fan and skipping dialogue has come back to bite me in the butt before 🤣. I really need to check out BG3. Been hearing great things abt it
@@kiekeyz if you like Bioware games you'll probably love it. fair warning, it's kind of incomplete. the third act is a hot mess, so it's really only 90% of a great game. if Larian ever decides to finish it or releases a definitive edition in the future I would highly recommend it!
Nick, are you alright? 😢
Where are you? A lot games are waiting to be compared now… I'm worried I hope you're well, please let's know if you're fine.
I wa waiting for this video forever man😊
I wonder if DLAA being affected the visual quality in any case?
Why did you turn on the frame gen? Doesn't make sense in a visual comparison.
Frame gen Literally doesn't show any artfact in the game, and he only have framegen in the sound comparasion.
@@hicarodestruiFalse I would guess you are PS5 fan
@@jmangames5562 He literally stated in the comments that framegen was turned on only during the sounds comparasion.
+ I literally played on my 4070, dlss3 framegen does not degrade the image quality.
And what this has to do with "Being oa5 fanboy??"
btw i noticed some of the issues you present with the pc version like the hair seems to be a bug with LODs, it looks kinda like when you set the negative LOD setting in NVCP for witcher 3 to clamp instead of allow, (makes textures and certain meshes really low quality) from what i have also seen in some comparisons, dlss does not seem to have this issue while native and DLAA do "i could be wrong on that" but its defo showing the signs that the negative LOD value or just LODs in general are bugged.
Been waiting for this
I noticed Frame Gen enabled have some artifacting in the low part of my screen, but well it doesn't matter too much
Yayyy it’s been so long since I have watched a direct comparison
Would love to see a comparison between the recently released Talos Principle 2 vs the original!
Hi Nick930 :) When is your History of Prince of Persia documentary going to be released? I am dying to watch it!
Nick. where are you man? Are you alright? Have you lost your password? Say something to know you're fine
You said you have frame generation on... so wouldn't that slightly degrade picture quality for the sake of better frame consistency with the ai frames?
Duh
Been waiting for your video on this games PC port...the only comparison i need👌👌
Need more vids!
main difference between both versions is the resolution and the FPS, but in terms of graphics fidelity (textures, shadows, LoD, etc) are practically near the same even on maxed settings on PC
Reflex latency : On+Boost lowers the fps drastically like around 40 to 60. Just only on ON does the trick and you won't be needing FG. I was getting around 100+ fps at native 4K DLAA and everything at max.
Thanks for these kinds of great videos @Nick930
Finally, been waiting for this.
Nick could it be that DLAA is causing that issue in reduction quality?
I checked this, and the image quality always looked better with DLAA. Something seems to be wrong with the shadowing on those details or the textures themselves
@@Nick930DLAA redraws moving objects, like all DL*. And sometimes it doesn't happen for the best. A waterfall, for example, could be an example of such a change.
@@Nick930 Hi, sorry I'm not that knowledgeable on DLSS & DLAA. May I enquire what's the reason we use DLAA for comparison rather than DLSS? is it that DLAA is superior than DLSS?
@@Spadenace DLSS renders the game at a lower resolution but makes it look higher quality, DLAA is basically Native DLSS, so it's higher quality since it just handels anti aliassing and doesn't lower the resolution

might be on your end. I checked and compared the details on your video and mine doesn't look like that on PC.
Different game version
Could you maybe make a follow up video in a couple of weeks to see if the issues were fixed?
Nah. I'll update in a pinned comment if anything changes. Working on a huge documentary atm.
Nice, thanks! Looking forward to that documentary!
A new patch has dropped which introduces some texture streaming improvements. Might be worth checking out.
I think the PC version has a "Texture/LOD" streaming issue. Either this or it CAPS at a certain level. Most likely a bug no one ever noticed since no one @Nixxes made a comparison like your video :) (Probably)
Fabulous Video Compare! Much love!
Can you talk about resolutions and framerates when you make direct comparisons? Some game get extra assets when using higher internal resolution, which is interesting to see. Frame Generation on PC gives you a huge framerate boost too, even with hardware that performs similar to that on the PS5. It is something that some people may like to hear.
I usually discuss this towards the end as I want to avoid going into detail on things like resolution and framerates, areas that are already explored in great depth by the good folks over at DF
Games do not get extra assets on resolution increases, you are simply able to make them out more clearly lol
nah some games literally have higher quality textures while on 4k and give 1440p same textures as 1080p.
@@resColts no they do not its just the fact you need 4k in order to make visible use of the high res textures. They are still there at lower res but cant notice it as well
@user-rt4ct6tq3r games with 4k textures as downloadable file exist you can go educate yourself on the difference
Is it just me, or does the PC audio sound slightly delayed?
increasing the sharpness might effect how you see aloys character model. i noticed when maxed you see her hair strains better. by default its set to 5/10 i think but thats using DLSS.
Has anybody checked on Nick? He hasn’t uploaded in a while. Just want to make sure he is ok.
The best comparison🤘
I think overall it's an excellent port. When I see the models up close it honestly looks like there is some texture sharpening issues on the PC. As in lack of. The details are there but just not as pronounced. I used nVidia filters to adjust sharpening and clarity which seemed to make a huge difference. I like your comparisons.
Bro, where did you go ? It's been 2 months.
question with only one answer .... why compare do such extend ? how compare Japanese LEXUS and american FORD ?
Im ngl. Love these games, but Aloy's quips like "Going down!" or the ones she says whenever you run out of inventory space. Wish there was a setting for that.
10000% agreed. I like aloy... but she doesnt need to comment on EVERYTHING
YAY ANOTHER COMPARISON!
I don't know what could be the problem with those details, I didn't tested these minor detailes but I belive if you said it because I watch your videos for a long time now. I play the game on an RTX 4080 in 1440p, Maxed Out, DLAA + Frame Generation and I get a constant 160 fps (locked my monitor) and I would appriciate a "higher than console" setting because there are a lots of horsepower in the high-end GPUs and the game would definitely benefit from that and would age better. I don't complaining though the game is beutiful, one of the most beutiful games that I've ever played. Those who has lower end GPUs, we already saw that the game plays well on lower quality too on a wide variety of PCs.
Well done 👍💪👏thank you
Nixxes really screwed up if they have a less detailed Aloy in the PC version. What the bloody hell Nixxes?
I've just noticed your comparison with the PS5 version when it comes to the particles and especially waterfalls.
I think it's to do with you disabling motion blur, it's the per-object motion blur that creates that illusion in the waterfalls and other effects. They don't really look any better on the PS5 they're just blurrier in motion which suggests lack of per-object motion blur on the PC.
Perhaps you can have another look.
That section was initially longer in this video and i cut it short, because i disabled motion blur in BOTH versions of the game.
The per object motion blur shouldnt be required to see a waterfall rendered properly. Most PC players on higher framerates want to disable motion blur effects because the higher framerates negate the need for such an effect.
I initially wrote/recorded that this lower quality waterfall isnt necessarily a problem with the port, but rather the downside of switching to a higher framerate to render effects intended for 30fps w/ motion blur effects.
I will say though that even when enabling the blur effects (because i had the same thought when i first saw this), the waterfall STILL doesnt look as good for some reason. Because of that, i reduced the length of that section of the video and simplified it.
You need to disable the frame generation, cripples the image@@Nick930
@@Nick930 Fair enough and I agree with you. Like I said before to my eye they don't particularly look any better per se on the PS5 (like the number of particles and or meshes look to be the same or of similar quantity in between the versions) just that the PS5 has that stop-motion blur effect applied.
So perhaps it's an upscaling thing or the PC version is lacking per-object motion blur all together.
a really very good port for PC, probably no one will notice any major differences during gameplay, the noticeable difference will definitely be in the number of frames, probably adding the ray tracing option would give a greater advantage in the overall appearance in favor of the PC. Most likely, the modding community will correct some imperfections for the developers :)
Playing at high framerates makes a huge difference does it not?
The fur thing looks like some kind of anti aliasing. If you haven't already tried, try to turn off any antialiasing like effect. Or yeah, might be something that needs fixing dev side.
Tried it. Thought it might be dlaa but no dice
Bro my ps5 render that break able structures u said only pc does i tried today it rendering properly not only one rock in air like ur ps5 version whole structure is there like pc
what about fps?
i am observ the reduction of cuallity on the pc version, ist not the frame genetarion activated?
sucha beautiful game.
on both devices.
tho i really couldn't play it on 30fps, unfortunately.
but for those who didn't see 60fps yet, that's gonna be an increadible experience !
Fantastic comparison
Thinking those water effects being less believable on PC due to you cranking off motion blur. Probably looks the same if adjusted up
Except motion blur was disabled on the ps5 too.
Whats more, i tested the water with motion blur on as well.
You should have tested it with motion blur since there is on ps5, it can answer for those water fall looking more grainy
The Sunwing episode felt like I was Toruk Makto. Those Visuals were just eye Candy
I played the ps5 version for about 20 hours but the story just couldn’t drag me to the end of the game with all other games there are to play. Maybe I need to go back and give it another try on pc
I felt this way after being a huge Zero dawn fan. Push through it picks up drastically after that.
How the background can be clearer on ps5 with less resolution,
Please do a comparison on Destroy All Humans 2 and the StarCraft Remaster =)
Good video, this game is a masterpiece, hope everyone enjoys it.
How you doing Nick
man i wish this game would have had some raytracing, the shadows, global illumination and reflections in this games aren't up to par with the amazing textures and assets, just imagining this game with RTGI like in dying light 2 and the witcher 3 would be breath-taking
Someome else has flickering text? I literally cannot see some numbers and text in the inventory, in some icons appear something like flickering squares, idid the integrity check already and even reinstalled, still the same.
"some post processing effects will be disabled to provide cleaner images for comparison"
*uses FG and DLAA*
I understand the photomode stuff in regards to FG, but at least turn of the AA if you're going for clean comparisons
Since when are we turning anti-aliasing off for comparisons lol what?
lol tf turn the aa off and it’ll look like a ps3 game
Well yeah... if you have a pc that can churn out DLAA at high fps then your gonna use it lmao. Same with FG, which doesnt do anything visually but produces more fps. Pc version is far superior as always 🤷♂
Have you really seen a 4K texture /graphics in fine detail? I'm not talking running things in 4K resolution there is a difference.
hehe, how much does the PC setup cost ?
Is this again ratchet and clank situation where some textures on pc version look worse and hopefully a patch will fix it?
Yup. But not nearly as bad as the ratchet and clank issues.
Game still looks beautiful on PC
Pc version's colors look a bit on the warmer side too.
it seems like the ps5 version of the game had some type of object motion blur for the water falls wich the pc version lacks so the pc version looks more grainy. i could be wrong but thats definitely how it seems.
This might actually be fixed by using TAA. They might be blending the effect using Temporal Accumulation which DLSS/DLAA could break here.
@@MLWJ1993 i would have initially thought the ghosting dlss usually causes in many instances would help the waterfall but here it seems to actively work against it
@@ThatsMySkill DLSS/DLAA actively does MORE to counteract ghosting than TAA does in pretty much every instance.
That might also be why these look different than perhaps intended.
@@MLWJ1993 yeah i dont know enough about dlss. i just know from gameplay experience there are some instances where there is slight ghosting so i thought it should have blurred the waterfall too. just a wrong assumption on my part
what are the pc settings that rae equivalent to the PS5? also would you make a video of optimised settings for pc ?
I just finished the main story. Started last week when it launched and already have 80 hours on the game.
Although I didn’t like certain aspects of the game like dialogue writing, parkour and the collectibles grind, they had improved a lot on many frontiers and it actually felt like a sequel unlike the Spiderman 1.3 named as Spiderman 2.
Looked damn good on my 3080. For once PC players got a good port.
this game must play with dual sense controller to experience the immersive haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers when archery.
The trigger literally feels like your pulling on a bow string it has this woody feel to it.
And ofc you can use some reshade to make it more colorful or improve the lighting in the pc version
the aloy and LOD textures are definitely a bug or something.
the game somehow plays at a really low volume near impossible to hear dialogue

For the Destructable environment, this has never happened to my Version on the PS5. So it might be just a bug at your end.
But in the game for me since i compared it last time in the same area
I bet those water particles look worse on PC because motion blur was disabled on PC. I also disabled MB, didn't noticed them much actually playing (currently 80hrs). I disabled FG though, cause 4090 is plenty for 3360x1440 and 5120x1440 looks too distorted and nauseating to use.
@Nick930 just tested. With motion blur turned to 11 waterfall looks the same as on PS5.
I like the ps5 version, of course the pc one runs better, but the physical copy for me it's fundamental. So Playstation for me. Great video, thanks!
was going to buy it, but no reason to if the graphical settings are bugged
Its extremely negligible and will likely be fixed without you knowing it was fixed.
Absolutely worth a buy still
DLAA shows a blurry image in this game
even on my steamdeck low with medium txtures it looks amazing very well done and optimized game
The most noticeable is smooth frame rate, other than that is almost identical
DLAA will blur the image somewhat. Not as bad as TAA. Comparison should have been done without it. That's why there's a difference at 1:45.
Tested with dlaa on / off. Just showing the footage i captured here
DLAA does not blur the image.
Finally a proper comparison!
