i’m so happy young people around my age are finally getting into janet’s classics! she was the only jackson who made it out of michael’s shadow! it was a tough journey with two poorly successful album for her to gain the respect as an actual artist, her control era really proved she was a force to be reckoned with. but she really pushed for the advocacy for social issues like racism and sexism in the late 80’s with her rhythm nation 1814 album! she was the blue print for artists like beyoncé, mya, ciara and etc. when her self-titled era -which this music video is from- came into motion she really surprised the general public! she became VERY sexual, she was always known to wear turtlenecks and military inspired wear so no one expected her to show her body and talk about sex. remember this was the early 90’s and not many black woman at the time talked so explicitly about their sexuality. this was a huge risk that played off very well to her legacy. she was ridiculed like every woman who wanted to talk about sex during that time but that didn’t stop her for continuing such a trailblazer. it’s so sad that her legacy has been buried because of one performance, the nipplegate. i would go more in-depth on the performance but i believe this video is more insightful th-cam.com/video/L-pXDufn1IY/w-d-xo.html! i urge you to do more reactions and more research into her past! keep doing these great reactions, i hope you have more and great success!
Those very first two albums were actually successful world wide as they went gold but I get what your saying. In terms of production and brevity the albums moving forward from that period starting with the “Control” album had a far more larger impact in terms of sales and global impact and it made her a real player in the music industry especially where her brother was concerned. Fun Facts: they had a listening party for the control album and all her brothers showed up and Michael was the only one who hadn’t showed up. Her brothers gave her the green light and Micheal was said to be envious and didn’t talk to her for two wks after having listened to the control album but later told her how excited he was for her and eventually got around to congratulating her.
FUN FACT: This music video is known to be the first video to have touch screens before touch screens was even a thing Janet was always ahead of her time 🙌
Janet to this day is the only female artist that doesn't throw ass around consistently and call it dancing. Made for now is her latest track and the video is fire. Doesn't really matter vma live performance with the rock mix is a flawless performance.

Janet is no where near underrated. 10 Billboard number one hits, most awarded female artist of all time behind Whitney, number one albums in every decade since the 80s, Rock and Roll Hall all of Fame, in top 10 of Billboard's artists of all time, major influence on every female artist that came after her etc.

We need some education here. 1) this song ain’t just “sexually charged” 😏😂. Go back and REALLY read those lyrics again. 2) if we’re gunna big up choreographers it’s Tina Landon that all the credit needs to be going to. She’s responsible for some of Janets most iconic dance videos and was THE choreographer to be back in the day. The references to Janet’s dance style that the artists of the early aughts and this generation are pulling from are really originating from that woman. She’s in the front row dancing to Janet’s left with the short hair. 2) if u want to get one clear example of Janets influence watch her music video “you want this” and then check out Mya’s “Case of the Ex”. 3) only a few have mentioned it here, but those few are right... the best choreo music videos Janet has is pleasure principle and alright. Rhythm nation is good as well as “I get so lonely”.

You are not slow in understanding the lyrics Jack. Actually sometimes Janet cannot enunciate properly, and she has a thin voice and...maybe also due to the fact it's a kinda fast dance song. The verses are actually hard to decipher. So it is a combination of these. . But I still love Janet though lol. Her Control album and Rythm Nation are her best. A little context behind this song (and this particular album). This song obviously celebrates female sexual empowerment and positive sexuality. The country was coming out of the 1980s in which sexual expression was more taboo due in large part to the AIDS epidemic. In the lyrics of this song, Janet is saying that it's ok to be a sexual individual, and it is perfectly acceptable to take control of and express the sexual aspects of your life. Yes, the lyrics are difficult to understand at times, but I think that was probably partially intentional: This song was played on mainstream radio back when things like this were not acceptable to air on the radio. The lines "You on the rise as you're touching my thighs" (referencing her partner's erection) and "Your smooth and shiny feels so good against my lips, sugar" (referencing performing oral sex on her partner) would never have been able to be aired if the lyrics were clear and easily discernible.
In fact, the record company tried to released the song ''If'' in the first single, but Janet was not disagree about that and she wanted to release ''That's The Way Love Goes'' in the first single. She conviced the company to release ''That's the Way Love Goes'' in the first single. She won the battle and released ''That's the Way Love Goes'' in first single of the album.
Fun fact: The 'guitar' chords you hear was actually done on a piano.
