Great video Tammy! I’m self taught also and it’s true, you don’t need a formal education to get started on patternmaking. I also love your video “5 tips for selling sewing patterns” This is much like a part 2 series of that video. Somehow patternmaking, grading, selling patterns have become highly requested content. Your videos just hit the spot and I enjoy just sitting and listening to all you have to say. It really gets me that last reader comment on your 5 tips for selling sewing patterns video, I mean my goodness, we should call them sewing bullies. They have nothing positive to say and love starting arguments. Talk about raining on our parade! Tammy, you must have nerves of steel. I’m also an aspiring pattern designer, I’m following your sewing pattern roadmap which is awesome by the way, and checking each item as I go. It’s going to take time like you say, but it’s worth it and I am enjoying the process as I go. Keep up the wonderful work you do Tammy, have a great day!
Hi Diana, so glad you love this video! I'm so happy my opinions and thoughts resonate with you, I really do think people try to gatekeep knowledge especially when it comes to pattern making. Yes it's a complex skill to master, but I truly believe anyone can learn to create patterns without formal education. Mainly because, I have done this myself 🤣 Comments like that one on that video really make me feel crappy, but I try to push past others negativity and remind myself that I'm allowed to do what I want! It really makes my day hearing you found the roadmap useful, that's exactly what I aspire to do! ❤
Hi Tammy, I can’t find the AI course you are referring in this video. I don’t like drawing patterns. I don’t have standard measurements and have a custom blocks. Knowing how to change them digitally would be a great help. I have been hesitant manipulate blocks digitally because that seemed like to much work to learn how to use a software. Hearing your recommendation here makes me think that with a course I could do it.
Hi Vicki! The Adobe Illustrator guidance I mention is within the course I linked above. But it's such a great idea to make a mini course solely on learning Adobe Illustrator for pattern making though - I can look into making this ❤
