Thanks for the informative video! I'm on the fence about dropping the money on one of these to light the bottom section of my 65" TV from the rear. I have the gradient light strip that covers the other 3/4, but I wonder how the brightness is on these light tubes compared to the 65" strip. I have three play bars right now mounted near the bottom of the TV on a entertainment stand that does a decent job, but I would rather the light come from the back of the TV facing the wall and downwards, over firing against the wall as the play bars are now.
That's a great question and I"m not quite sure how to answer it. I think it is essentially the same thing as a light strip but with the strip integrated into the tube, so in theory the length of it should be just as bright as the light strip.
Can this be used in conjunction with the gradient light strip? The strip wrapped round the top & sides of the TV & the gradient tube picking up the colours at the bottom of the screen? I have the gradient strip but 4 play bars mounted to the rear of a unit below the TV to match the lower colours. I find the bars to be a bit too chunky & the sticky pads are losing their grip & they’re falling off.
@@adamtalkstech is it as bright as 2 play bars? I have 2 play light bars behind my TV and want to know if it's brighter than those before I invest the money in the larger light tube.
I'm thinking of using this above my bed, I know you said it's NOT a reading light but do you think it would be nice as a mood/ bed reading light at night?
but wait, if I dont have a hue bridge, I can still use the app right ? Or is the bridge needed to access the app ? Sorry I just discovered the phillips hue products :(
Can he light turn so its pointing straight up if its sitting flat on a table? I want to mount these behind my Floor Standing Speakers but would like to make sure it will point straight back to the wall.
@@adamtalkstech That's what I thought. I must have a defective one. It turns the other way around. Towards the back of the unit so it's pointing down if you have it laying flat. Thanks for the info
I know what you mean, but for most installations I don't think the plug would be in the way. I do believe that this extension cord would work with the Light Tube: geni.us/ZoB2vo
In my country the price difference of the small and large is even smaller, €204 for the large and €198 for the small.. I have a 55 inch tv, do you think the large would work for me? I saw the large being placed at a pc monitor in your video, does that work with syncing for you?
I haven’t had a chance to try the Mac hue sync app yet. Most 55” tvs are about 47” wide and the large bar measures 54 long so I think you would probably want the compact unless you don’t mind the bar being wider than your tv. I’ve got links for both in the description!
Got mine for $160 from Amazon on Black Friday which I thought was a good deal
Wow that's a great deal!!
I'm jealous as ever at that one. Sorry I missed it

Yes sure could be used with it. I think you just set up the motion zones on the hue app and set this light for it and the location.
When would u choose to have this rather then the play gradient light strip that goes on the tv?
It's ridged and you don't have to stick it down. I mounted it to the back of my desk.
The Play Gradient strip is supposed to go along the top and sides of the TV. Which leaves the bottom unlit. That's where you could put this one.
Do you think this would light up a wall of it was at the bottom of the wall ? I currently have a light strip that isn't strong enough
It all kind of depends on the angle and color of your wall. the light tapers off after about 2 or 3 feet
@@adamtalkstech thanks mate probably not strong enough ty
its gonna be tough with Philips hue. they aren't crazy bright. :/ @@WreckageMG
Can you get the gradient effect without the sync box?
Yup!! That's how I use it. Check out any of my videos with my desk in the background to see it.

@@AjCaputo101 I’d say it’s comparable. The plays are a little more flexible how you move them or aim them

That could look cool. The cable management might be a little tricky
Can u use this without a bridge what does the bridge do
Bridge allows it to be controlled from out of he and to set up automations
How would you mount it to the wall? Does it come with screws that fits?
You need to provide your own screws/anchors but it has the brackets included.
I want this because the light quality Phillips products produce are 2nd to none, but the price for this is just very difficult to justify :T
Definitely pricey. I’m still loving the look I get out of it and it makes great bias light for my
Monitor.
LIFX has better colors

Yes it can! you will see just a little bit of the diffuser.

@@adamtalkstech awesome good to know. Thank you!
To get light at the bottom of the TV through the sync box, would it be better to go for the tube or ambiance gradient light strip?
I'd go with the tube because its an all in one fixture and you don't have to hide anything or stick it to anything.
Do you need a additional device for this to work like a hue bridge or something or can u just buy it and use bluetooth for it?
This one requires a bridge.

My wife keeps buggin me about getting one of these.
Once you get started with Philips Hue, you can't stop!
Sounds like you’ve got a keeper for sure haha!
Looks really dimm
The darker colors are definitely not as bright as the white and lighter colors.
