Zwift Run has been a useful tool for me over the winter & I would happily recommend it to anyone. Obviously outdoor is better, but it has allowed me to fit in workouts where I wouldn't normally have the time such as when my kid is taking a nap. It's particularly good for speedwork & shorter more intense efforts.
I got a zwift foot pod for free with my British triathlon membership. Gave it a go at the gym with my phone resting on the treadmill display. I personally didn't feel like it encourages good run form to be looking down at it the whole time though. Obviously you could just run naturally and look down occasionally, but then what's the point. Would definitely have been better if I had a nice big flat screen at eye level like Mark has here. Maybe one day I'll have my own pain cave and be able to do that
Great video. Need more just like it. Comments are excellent as well, Esp the comment about using “pair”to do a brick workout - bike to run and starting the run at the point where you stop the bike.
Excellent video, thanks for posting. After watching a few of these videos, I haven't noticed any of the commentators refer to how elevation changes work. In Zwift cycling and you come upon a hill your trainer automatically increases the workload. Nobody in any of the videos I've seen thus far mentioned what you're supposed to do in Zwift run. I assume that you simply make the adjustments yourself when you notice elevation % has changed in the upper Right corner. I noticed video bloggers running on Zwift without touching elevation setting on their treadmill & on the Zwift screen elevation was 5%! Please advise
Have been looking all over for this. Does it apply a discount to your current speed to simulate the work uphill for instance - and is the elevation data synced with your Strava/Garmin at the end? Why are there no answers to this?!
@@Disillusioned2022 I can report back that it gives you 0 elevation for whatever run you do and doesn't virtually slow you down or anything like that so there's no point within Zwift to varying the treadmill gradient with the terrain. If you do, Zwift will just think you're running slower on the flat.
Does anyone know why an avatar on Zwift would appear to be walking while someone is full on running while on their treadmill? It can be pretty discouraging for slower runners or someone who is just getting into running pushing themselves to only see their avatar going for an evening stroll through Watopia.
I really enjoyed your vlog. It gave me a lot of information. I have a Garmin watch and Garmin foot pod. I don't want to pay extra to buy the Zwift foot pod. What is an ant+ dongle and how does that work?
1. Easy trick. Brick training. Click 'pair' in the menu and simply switch between bike and run. Quite fun as you set off running where you stopped cycling. 2. Slightly more technical... On a computer, it is quite possible to write your own training sessions and put them in your zwift directory and they will then upload to your zwift account. No need for training peaks.
Can you give some recommendations for actual treadmills for home? When I watch the ratings and the comments, they are really near all very bad rated, and buyers don't recommend them. Which models are good?
I have to say it’s not a game changer like biking is. I wouldn’t get it if I wasn’t already paying for the cycling. When I use I just let it run (haha) and still watch tv. I definitely prefer the runners only routes.
I don`t like running after an avatar like a guide for the blind. Can you turn the avatar off? On Kinomaps you have real landscape and no avatar and it controls your treadmill going down and uphill with my Sole F85
I find the data on y iPhone very small and unreadable. Looking at getting an iPad hoping this would help the situation. Also, is there a way at looking at historical strava data?
If you are using the Milestone Pod or the Zwift Pod and the Zwift app says you were "Connected," but the avatar was not moving. Take the battery out for like a minute and put it back in... It should be FIXED!!! IF that doesn't work, try a NEW battery.
I don’t know the answer to that great question but most treadmill companies will include a conversion chart that might suggest that you have to start out with a incline of 2% to overcome the treadmill “pushing effect” and to approach being on solid ground outdoors. Great Google question.
I read somewhere that aerodynamics doesn't come into any significant play until 13 mph. This is for a road bike, so I would slightly less for a runner due to being more upright than a cyclist. But then again on a bike there are more objects the air has to go around.
Why do I need zwift if I can watch number of high quality virtual simulation running videos on TH-cam while running on Treadmill. I have been doing that for a while now.
Kathryn Robinson yes but at a certain point it will stop if you don’t keep up a minimum pace. I use an Apple Watch for both speed at heart rate along with Zwift companion app to do lots of various crazy ways to exercise with zwift like using kettle bells; using an aerobic step and it it definitely moves the avatar, it’s pretty fun. I don’t run at all, basically marching in place will keep your avatar moving.
four years later and still no in-game workout builder for Zwift run. While there are ways around this for PC and iOS devices there is still no solution for Android devices. Also still no control mode ... the technology is there, why can't they make it possible for Zwift to control the pace of the treadmill during a workout? It feels like some little vanity project which is not well resourced. If they wanted to make it successful in its own right they would need to take it a lot more serious than they are.
Dossey528 could you just not arrange that with a user by messaging them asking to race? Then you both start and whoever finishes the course first wins? But that would only be 1 v 1. It would be cool if they did official races with specific start times with unlimited amount of racers. Seems like a no brainer and should come

I suspect the road gradient in the virtual world has no effect on the treadmill running, unlike when riding a bike. Unless you make the adjustments manually, of course.
