In 2009 they revised the first scenario. You now get two chits for every small island you settle on. They did this with the first four and add maps for just three players.
i love seafearers (navegantes). If you like catán, buy this one too!! The 5-6 players works well. i don't know how the other two expansións are... nor if they are compatible...
Great video, very helpful. I recently had a dispute with a friend over the longest road card. So we were playing a three player game, myself, Jimmy, and Bob. I had a longest road, then Bob got the longest road from me, giving him 4 VP's (cause of the 4 point swing). After Jimmy stole it from bob he had 6 VP's (Bob had 4 VP's then Jimmy got it and got the additional 2 points). In the end Bob had a road of 11 lengths long, Jimmy had one of 11 long also, I had one of 6. I then broke off Jimmy's longest road, so then it would go to Bob, but my logic was that the longest road would essentially go to "limbo" so Bob would get the longest road, but since I broke the longest road he wouldn't get 8 points, only 2, as the 6 point swing in this case wouldn't apply as he didn't build the longer road. I can explain more if this is confusing.
You seem to be under the illusion that the value of Longest Road increases by two points each time it changes hands. This is incorrect. Longest Road is only ever worth two points, regardless of how many players previously attained it. So, in your scenario above, the two points would belong to Bob. All Hail Builder Bob!
Tom, thanks for the great review!! I have a question about this board game. can I also play the basic game (only the main island) with this expansion? I have played basic game a lot before and want to introduce it to my frds who never played it. so I was debating whether to buy the basic one (which i have played before) or seafarer of catan (which i prefer..) what do u think?
Great review!
I just saw this played a week ago.
It's a very cool expansion.

@epc924
You have to buy the basic game (Settlers of Catan), or this one won't work.

How many little hexes are there in the whole expansion? I mean the board where you can make all those different combinations is HUGE!
can you just make your own scenario or do you have to use the ones in the book
and also would you recomend the expansion

Do you still play to 10 points?
I'm in on this expansion. I gotta look for the 5th edition. Thanks Tom Vasel!
If you live near Target, they have the newest edition of Catan Seafarers expansion for $25 (50% off). Because I finally picked it up.
I bet Catan came out before Civilization V. (Hex tiles in Civ 5 Only)
i bet this game was inspired by sid meiers civilization
