As requested, here is my stash organization and storage video. I hope it gives you a few ideas that you can implement with your own crafts organization. See you next week for my regular WIP update!

I just finished merging, sorting, inventory, and bobbinating and bagging my Mom's and my collection of floss from the 1970's and 1980's . Yup I just turned 65 and I'm going to try stitching again. And lo and behold I did my bagging of flosses sorted by number and bagged by hundreds just like you. But when I saw that double sided bobbin box I just about fell over.

Hello @probablyknitting. You made me laugh. I am also a recent returning stitcher (after oh maybe 35 years) and have been using my previous stash of Dmc from the 80’s.. that’s probably a no no to many, but until I know how into this I’m gonna get, I’m using what I have. I am also a knitter, crocheter, sexist and wanna be quilter - so have been enjoying the change. Speaking of which - sooo much has changed! Only I don’t have a stitchy friend now so yippee for flosstube!

hi 👋 i just got into cross stitching about six months ago, and this is the first video of yours i have chanced upon (subscribed!), so i don't know if this is still relevant at all, BUT, i just decided i was gonna get a transparent suit protector and a hanger, and hang my binder rings with floss on tags. i really needed them to be out of dust, especially now that we have regular construction works in the house, and potentially also protected from my cat (he, very oddly and fortunately doesn't seem interested so far, fingers crossed).
I started stitching with a hoop and a sweet lady who owned a cross stitch store taught me how to stitch in hand and I have never looked back. It takes a bit to get used to but I love stitching in hand. You should try it again with a small project you might find you like it. Love your videos. Cyndi

to 'stitch in hand',...does that mean with the cloth in a hoop? Or no hoop?
@@DH-qz2so I am pretty sure that stitching in hand is with no hoop, I have been watching some stitchers use no hoop, and 30 years ago I could not have imagined it. I also see some stitchers using large frames for huge projects. So for now I'm trying some small things and trying to get my tension to loosen up a bit. And stitching in hand is a good test of that for me. I'm on a huge learning curve right now, but it's fun.
@@DH-qz2so it means using no hoop. I usually roll my fabric up until it is comfortable in my hand. You can using the sewing method to stitich and it is much faster than the stabbing method. There videos out there that demonstrate stitiching in hand. Good luck!. Cyndi
Thank you for the brilliant idea for the PVC frame holder. I had been fighting with my millennium frame.... while I love it.....it was unmanageable with a large piece. I just raided my husband's stash of PVC pipes and fittings and built my own. I used your recommended measurements.....and it works perfectly. Thank you again!!
Hi Nell. I want to say thank you for the inspiration! After seeing your table stand I designed one of my own and I love it! I actually made mine into a floor stand and it can be changed into a table stand if I want by changing the legs. For an extra piece of pvc my husband and I made all kinds of pieces so that I can change the size at any time. Have a great day and thank you for sharing!

I LOVE your storage situation. I am simple easy peasy , right now, I don’t have much as I polar plunged myself right into Floss Tube, and my budget is meager at best, but I purchased a nice cardboard box from Micheals when it was 75% off ( Christmas was the category) its black and red checkered, i keep everything in it. I also have the scroll frame, I found it in a thrift store and have been keeping it busy, its made out of very good solid wood. Thanks for the ideas
I too started with a hoop when I learned many many years ago. Lol 50 years ago hoop was about all you could find. Then in my about 25 yrs ago I discovered split rail scroll frames. I also have a couple other brands of scrolls. I love scroll frames.
Tried q snaps and not a big fan of them yet.
I am a bobbinater wanting to swap over to floss tags.
You can hang your rings on a round belt hanger in your closet 😉 Jean Farrish does that.

Really enjoyed this video! Thank you for sharing your storage system!! I thought you’d might like Vonna’s file system for her dyed floss that are on thread cards for your DMC. She takes a hanging file folder, cuts the top maybe an inch or so from the top, and then spaces hole punches the length of the folder. She then used small rings and hangs the floss using the rings. She then hangs the floss in a file folder box. I think she showed it in a video on her channel, but I don’t think she has restored it yet.
It’s always neat to see how others organize. Thanks for sharing your method. 💕
You have a number of good tips that I can use - especially concerning patterns. I have been stitching for 40 years or so and I struggle with how to organize them so I can easily find things. While I have more patterns than you, I think the names of your files will be helpful. I am in the middle of moving to a smaller craft room set up from way too much space(!) so this was the perfect video to watch! Nell, I really enjoy your videos, seeing your stitching, hearing about your homeschooling, etc. You keep it real except that you ALWAYS look so put together and calm! I don't know how you do it all but you make it look easy! Happy Stitching!

Yesterday I reorganized all my threads by number instead of by color. Because when I read a chart, often it's a legend by number. It tooks me all the afternoon 😄
For the moment my threads are one DMC cardboard. I don't know if it's a good solution, I will see in the futur.
DMC storage make me crazy 😄
I live in France, and linen fabric is very expensive here. I don't know if it's cheap in America... It's a pity. I love very much linen. And it's difficult to find linen cheap.
Thanks ft your showing hg us your organization. I have my DMC in CD covers by numbers. In the last year i also use tags for the floss that i stitch with. When i am through they just go into the cd covers. They fit fine. I found small baskets with handles at the dollar store and they fit in them perfectly. I too have lots of Victorian motto thread, gast etc. I have them on big rings hanging in the closet. Not happy with that but haven't found anything else for them yet.
Nice organization, I store my charts in 2" notebooks by categories. Christmas, USA, Flowers etc. The front of the book are the ones I'm planning to stitch. The back of the book are the stitched charts.
I store DMC like you. I'm changing the way I store my hand dyes like you. Nice tip. 😉.

Hi Nell, love your videos! I have been cross stitching since 1985. I have never stitched on anything but Aida. I see all of your works and they are all soooooo beautiful. I would love to give a try at stitching on a 28 ct fabric, but I'm afraid to because I don't even know how to start with something like that. I really loved the stocking you made, absolutely amazing.
I think your organization is great; it’s easy and quick to access. I have a small space to work with too for my crafting area. I have my DMC on the larger floss bobbins and am having a hard time finding a new container for them (my 37 year old double sided tackle box has broken hinges!). The containers I’ve found have not been deep enough for those bobbins to sit in ☹️. If I could just find another one of those tackle boxes it would be great, but they no longer make that style either (go figure after 37 years ha!) . Hi Anne, until recently my floss bobbins and storage box were 25 years old, and when I recently needed an additional storage box which fit my bobbins it was a nighmare to find one! I hope this will help save you the hassle I went through: DMC makes sturdy storage boxes and bobbins. Their new bobbins are slightly shorter than they used to be, so the original bobbins don't fit well into the boxes. To solve this I bought boxes which came with 50 free plastic bobbins, and slowly moved my floss to the new bobbins, which was actually a lot of fun. Alternately, you could put fewer bobbins into each compartment so they can sit on an angle. I hope this helps :)

Thank you for sharing your storage ideas...I am not a fancy person at all. My END is stored in veggies according to their number value. My over-dyes are stored on huge rings...so I can see the colors. Me, myself and I think your system is very clever and space manageable! HAPPY STITCHING TODAY AND EVERYDAY IN 2020!!

For the DMC on floss tags, I was considering buying baseball card binder organizers (like the pages with various slots for cards) and storing my floss on cards that way. I havent experimented with it yet, but I thought it would be a good way to see the floss and know what you have

Hi Nell! Thanks for sharing your organization/storage! I just have mine all tossed in a stand that has those wire baskets. I need to get more organized. Well, I guess I should say they have been "tossed" in there since I switched rooms. I just haven't gotten back in that new closet to organize everything. We downsized two years ago so your storage system would be excellent. I have the two-sided plastic container that I use for DMC as well. I'm still on one side...still adding....lol. I think I'll have to check into making my own table stand soon. Adding a bigger rolaframe to my wishlist. I hope you have a great week!
Thanks you for showing all your tips on storage...I love your stitching stand...it would help with the natural neck slippages as you age...I have put my DMC all on bobbins and after many years the DMC has developed creases...I will put DMC on thread drops and then hang them with large rings on metal rack(ie towel racks) inside my closet door and maybe cover with a cloth (may be)...there are certain things to think thru on this problem of storage...stay safe and have a great week❣️
I reorganized all my dmc and put them on rings by number. Like all 200s on a ring, all 300s, etc. luckily I have room in my craft room closet to hang them on the closet bar. Works great if you have the room for the rings on your closet bar.

Have you considered hanging all the tags on a 👔 tie rack , best if it's one that rotates.
I have a very small room so I have to be creative when I store my supplies . All my DMC is on bobbins and in a jewelry box that has 3 drawers. I had to modify it a little but they fit.

** I started with your video from about 9 months ago and am watching #50 from July now. You share your stash organization, which I think is a great setup. Thank you for sharing!
** I started "And a Forest Grew" on Arbor Day in April and completed 2 of 14 pages during the first 3 weeks of Maynia. I completed two more pages in August. I plan to complete another two pages by the end of 2020 and then 2 per quarter in 2021, to finish it up. The Arbor Day start was the idea of Erin, the Two Martini Stitcher. Maybe others would like to join you for an Arbor Day start this year!
** I found the "Amish Life" tryptic magazines on eBay, because I saw Brian (Blitstitch) show his progress and finish. I grew up in Indiana and went to elementary school with Amish and Mennonite kids. I like the scenery, the quilts and the feel of the piece. Would you please show the one you have finished and tell us what you stitched it on? Did you use DMC? I can't decide if I want to stitch it as one piece or as 3 separate pictures. I likely won't start it until 2022.
** QUESTION: How do you store your kitted projects and your WIPs (or already started projects)?

Just found your channel and so glad I did 😊. I store my floss in an over-the-door shoe holder (like what is behind you in the video). I separate the floss by number on to rings and put into quart Ziploc bags and store them in the shoe pouches (20 numbers per ring, two rings per bag, two bags per pouch). There are 24 pouches. I use half for DMC and half for over-dyed. It's a new system for me as I also bobbinated all my DMC back in the day. But I think it's going to work -- let's hope so, anyway 😉
Very good stash organization. It will be a dream having a craft room, but I live in a small apartment. So I have a little library, with paper box in the same colour and dimension where I put fabrics, dmc colour, yarn and all I have. While I've been organizing, I have so many charts I was overwhelmed. So I liked the seasons/monthly folders! I immediately went back and put my fabric into separate bags by count. I'd already sorted so it was easy to bag.
I kind of have a weird organization for my supplies. I have small clear plastic totes I used from Family Dollar. I make a lot of my own designs, but stitch a lot of designs by other people as well. The PDFs I've purchased gets printed out and put into a binder, but as for floss. It's all over the place.

I just wanted to let you know I love your stitching frame....I was building my own when it came to me to make the legs linger to have one that I could use as a floor frame so I sit in my chair...my frame sits on the floor and all the way to the perfect height!! Thank you for your idea!! I also make my own Q snaps from PVC too!!

Hi. I think a system for your floss left off the bobbins might be cutting the bottom off hanging file folders and punching holes across the bottom of about 2” for hanging them. I have mine on bobbins but saw this method on TH-cam somewhere recently using small locking rings that lock into one end of the whole skein loop and name/number can be wrote above the ring.. It is genius!
This is my current task while I’m down in Florida.... needddddd to get organized

I love your PVC stand and I like your storage system. I don't care if mine is part of the room decor or not. We have animals, etc so I want everything protected. I really like your idea on thread storage in the snapware boxes. Right now mine is in very pretty paper boxes from Michaels but it's a little cumbersome. I have a filing bin for my patterns too...plus another box for "overflow" (sigh). I need to rethink that one. Anyway, thank you for sharing your ideas. I'm sure many people found it helpful. I'm going to buy myself Roll a frames as a birthday gift to myself. I'm stitching a lot of bigger projects now and the Qsnaps and hoops, though I love them both, aren't working for them anymore. It's funny -- I stitched in hand for the longest time but now I preferr Qsnaps and my Lowery frame.

I use dmc stitch bows which hold a skein with number on, they then fit In a special dmc folder they are brilliant you will be so organised how this works foryou
I both bobinate and use thread drops for my DMC. When I’m kitting up a project I arrange the skein on a thread drop (keeping the bobbin in its box in number order) and stitch away. When I’m finished with my project I re-bobinate the colour and pop it back in its place in the box. It might be a bit fussier, but I like all my DMC in one place. I couldn’t cope with a separate bag on thread drops! Thanks for the lovely videos 🥰
I bought 2 big command hooks (that hold a heavy weight) and a curtain rod and put them on my wall. Took my DMCs that are on floss drops put them on rings and slid them on the rod. I can take the rod down to get what I want off. I did a ring with 1 to like 199, a ring with 200s like that.
Just put them by color with your other colors. You could even put them on rings by number but put in your stacking boxes with your other threads. Then you will have everything by color organized.
Darcie hoops holds the fabric tight. And are available in in different sizes.

I am soooo happy! My husband and me made the frame today!! A lot of freeze frame, and it looks ok 👍. But now I have to wait for a Rola frame...☹️And it can take a loooooong time before it comes to Belgium 🇧🇪 Perhaps my husband wil make one himself 🤩!!
I enjoy cross stitch, but what do you do with all of the pictures you stitch? I find myself wondering what I’ll do with it. I love Disney and have a few patterns, but again I’m wondering what I’ll do with them when finished. Thanks for your time.

Thanks so much for sharing your organization tips. I am a little obsessed with organizing. I filmed a flosstube a couple of months back showing how I store my dmc on floss tags in a 64 drawer hardware type plastic cabinet from Amazon. (You might need 2 of those) I'd link the video but TH-cam usually sends those comments to spam. If you look on my channel (stitching in the light) at my stitching room tour, minute 8 shows my dmc cabinet. I use the little stickers that you can buy at Joanne's to label the drawers. Hope that is helpful. Also, I saw Liz Matthews talking on instagram about going to a used office supply warehouse to look for metal filing cabinets. I may end up going that route eventually. Love your collection! I’m getting so addicted to buying patterns! Thank God I discovered this hobby! I do needlepoint...(love starting but find it boring ) crochet, knit and crewel work....but my new hobby - cross stitch - I can’t believe how much I love it! Unlike most needlepoint, I really see my design coming to life and no fancy stitches to learn to keep it interesting! Also crossstitch is not a very costly hobby. I never realized how popular it is!
I’m still learning about the different fabrics though. At first I thought it was just Aida...wow was I wrong!
Just learned about spraying fabric with tea to antique it, can’t wait to try that!

My husband made me a wooden table frame that I use with my 24" and smaller Edmunds scroll rods. They have to screw into the sides of it. I showed him your video and he is making me a larger one in PVC so I can use it with my 26" and 29" rods. Thanks for sharing. I bagged my DMC in FlossAWay bags and have them on rings separated by numbers. I keep them in a clear bin.

Have you ever heard about Annie’s Keepers? I just switched completely over to this system for floss storage and it is just awesome! I bought a $12 hanging file box at Staples to hang them in and it works great!. They are definitely a bit costly but totally worth it.

Good information on the Rolaframe sizing of the rods. I would not have guessed that.
BTW, Vonna, The Twisted Stitcher, did not take down all her videos. She mentioned on Fiber Talk (a couple months ago, I think) that her site had been hacked and nearly all her information and videos had been deleted. She was sad about the loss but decided to just let it go and simply continue on from there.
Thank you for sharing your pvc stand dimensions. I'm considering making one to fit over my lap when using my "monster-sized" omanik frames. This gives me a starting point for lengths.

I think you could up a tension curtain rod and hang all your floss rings on them
What do you think about using a split ring binder clip (100 for $8) as a floss drop or on your floss tag and put them on a steel cable loop in numerical order? Then you can insert a new color without having to shift each color down one.
