Mustie, I know from all the well wishes you have received, you may have an idea of how much we appreciate and love your work, and the sharing of your knowledge and personality. Thank you! What a treat it is when I open you tube and see a new adventure of Mustie 1 and the wrenches. We all love your efforts. Each episode is like sharing time with an old friend. Keep up the good work.
hey quick tip. when you don't have a tap, you can cut a slot in a bolt so that the dirt and grime has somewhere to go, and you kind of get a "cutting" edge. like a tap. the more the merrier
👍 Yep, I use that thrick very often when I don't have the proper tap as Mustie1. I also grind the tip of the screw flat as a cutting edge and have the slot at an angle. Very effective In my case, My late Dad, a machinist, taught me the trick decades ago when I was 10 or twelve.
I saw the new video so I started it. When Mustie started talking about a list, I knew it was going to be one of "those" videos. I stopped it, got a drink, and dug it. I was ready for a good video.
I really liked the transmission fork linkage part, always wondered what was happening in there. The three point piston seal blow by is definitely something I’d tune into seeing tackled.
Without further ado, and it's gonna be another awesome facinating Herr Doktor Professor Mustie going in restoring to working order can't stop watching video. Time to pour a cup of coffee and pay attention.
I've had my Snap-On test light for 47 years. My most used tool when doing electrical on cars, trucks, tractors. I "loaned" it to a neighbor unknowingly once when helping him solve a problem. I searched my cars and truck for 10 years with disappointment. When they sold and moved 10 years later they had a garage sale. In the bottom of a junk little toolbox, there was my Test Light. I purchased my own tool back for $1.00. Mine looks just like yours with the handle dull and smoothed from my hands. Great to see yours. I love old familiar tools!
Might want to take your cutoff wheel and run a groove or two or three across the threads on the sacrificial bolt. Kind of like making your own tap. Seems to work much better for me when I'm trying to clean up threads. Glad to see you back and I hope you're not having any lingering effects from Covid.
I was going to make the same suggestion. I once made a tap out of a 1/4" bolt with a hacksaw to reattach the tiller on a little Sunfish sailboat going into aluminum. Father-in-law thought I was a genius, I just wanted to go sailing. Necessity is the mother-in-law of all invention......
Hey bud, glad you're sounding better. A trick my dad taught me when I was a kid was if you need to chase threads and don't have a tap. You take a spare bolt and make a cut the long way about 1/2" down the threads. This does 2 things. It allows the bolt to compress a bit when going in tight threads and the slot gives a place for the rust and garbage in the hole to migrate to
The river is flowing at a good rate! This tractor needed a lot of love-it’s no wonder the owner parked it. You’ve done a bang up job reviving it and I certain someone will like to take it off your hands and put to work. 👏🏻🔧❤️
I am glad you gave us all a look into the transmission shifting issues. I’ve never torn into one and found it very interesting. Welcome back. You sound good and energetic as ever. Us old guys need you and your old junk, it is what we associate with…no drama, no violence, no foul language and nothing illegal or requiring 1st amendment auditors showing up at your door…. Just good problem solving turning trash into treasure. Thanks a hundred times over….
Glad to see you back, yeah the Rona is tough the wife and I both went through it back in August. And we were vaccinated so it was nor as bad as it could have been. Looking forward to future videos.
Thank you for showing the whole transmission part after the shake-down test. There was a lot of good content there. Glad you're feeling better now too.
Well done Mustie. Some advise. Please only start the tiller while it’s in the air. Also always use some kind of counter weight when the loader is in use. Otherwise you risk snapping the front axle from to much weight from the bucket and what it’s carrying. Also, please, more videos on the fixes for this tractor. Lets fix that 3pt hitch leak down issue.
Yesss its Sunday such a great way to start the week! Coffee and a new Mustie video! So glad your doing better Mustie! Payers be with you and yours! good Morning/Evening to one and All!
50:49 You see one?? 🤣🤣🤣 Loved the tour today through Mustie1's stashes. Great variation of work and lecture. Always nice to have some electrics education. Great to see you back in a healthy way👍👍
rust on those shifter rods/springs/detents is often caused by failing shifter boots letting rain water into the transmission. Those rubber boots are probably UV cracked and only a $3 to repair so order a new set. The extra shifter rod balls are inter-locks so you can't shift two gears at once.
To differentiate between Casteel and cast iron, take a sharp chisel and just peel the edge of it. If it comes out in pieces it’s cast iron if it comes out in a sliver like an orange peel it’s steel. Thank you for the continued great contact I’m glad you are well, all the best
👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽🙏🏻 Enjoyed! Great job, look forward to one more video👍 Love old tractors and old tractor videos! Love the sound of rushing water too, beautiful river!
Watching you piece together the intake kind of reminded me of the Apollo 13 issue of putting together the scrubber problem they had, all you need is some duct tape and your good to go😜
Thing to do is to braze that hub, doesn't crack like weld, good preheat and slow cool will make a huge difference no mater what process you use. as for cleaning out the threads, cut a length wise slot on your sacrificial bolt to make a rudimentary tap
Old mechanics trick. Take a dremel cut off wheel and cut a groove deeper than the threads lengthways along the bolt. The groove does'nt have to be too long . Maybe and inch. Do it to two sides opposite each other. Make sure it's a grade 8 bolt.
Good to hear your voice back again. I would swap LED lights in. You could put in a new fixture as well but they do make cross over LED bulbs for the old style 12volt ones. Popular in the marine field.
When you're doing the center gears--- Just make sure you let go of the shifter and allow it to self center, then you'll be much less likely to wrestle it into a bind... again, allow it to self center before shifting those two center gears.
You need to get a set of Knipex Cobra XS to replace the small channel locks you were using on the headlight switch. Mine are in my pocket 99% of the time and they're handier than the little 5" channel locks as they open to over an inch. Cheers Darren! Zip~

Hey Mustie, Swith the horses on the bucket valves to Match your other tractor. It will make your life easier. Love the videos and glad you are doing good and back at it.
The other day, Wes of "Watch Wes Work" fixed a non-starting on old and rare John Deer lawn tractor by simply replacing a seemingly good glass fuse. Many people would have simply replaced it with a cheap Chinese new tractor ! As Mustie 1 says, HA !
Cover that seat with a trash bag. Put a rock on it to keep it from blowing off. We do that on all our tractors. Seats look like new. On these old trucks and tractors, we build up the shift forks with brass and file them down to fit. The brass really works smooth.
If you don't have a tap, get a bolt and file a couple of slots vertically (perpendicular) in the thread, then use it to tap the hole, obviously be gentle and deburr it 1st, great vid, glad you have recovered from the lurgy.
Really happy you are almost back to normal. Hope your wife is OK now too. Been watching some of your old videos to keep your views up.................Jay

to be fair it spent 10 years as lawn art so the fact it makes noise and even moves is a win, I think that's amazing

Yeah that's pretty much the best way of cleaning them up without a tap
100% the way to do it if you don't have a tap.. Got to have space for the crap to come out.
Yes it's this best substtute for an actual thread chaser. Without the slots, then the junk just gets shoved further down into the threads.
I was going to make the same suggestion. I once made a tap out of a 1/4" bolt with a hacksaw to reattach the tiller on a little Sunfish sailboat going into aluminum.
