Hey Wiley and Jacob. Just a small tip, when you remove the push rods get a piece of cardboard and punch 8 holes in a strait line, mark them 1-8 and put the corresponding push rod in the each hole. Its always good to keep them in order so they go back in the same cam follower. Jacob I admire the respect you have for your dad, you are an inspiration for the younger people watching. Keep up the good work👍
I'm a mechanic, well done on getting the head off. Yeah I would check the head out. make sure the valves are sealing/closing and are not stuck, you could lap the valve seats in. I think it will all be good though. it is quite simple to put it back together, well for the trained person. clean all surfaces, re assemble in reverse order you took it apart. tension head in the correct order etc. You got lucky those cylinder walls look good.
That head finally popped off, hope you can get it all cleaned up and back together. Looking forward to seeing it fire up and get figured out why the tracks were locked up. Good job guys!
Good job getting it unstuck and getting that head off. 👍That dead frog was something else. Could'nt imagine how he got in there, those are some tight spaces in there. Wow! Keep us updated and thank you for sharing, Wily and Jacob.
Bent or broken shifter forks can cause you to be able to put the transmission in two gears at a time. Take the top off the transmission and use a crowbar to shift both to neutral.
That's actually looking like a nice engine once you got the head off. A good clean and don't forget to change the oil as there will be water in it now. Bob
Another job well done sir, Wiley and Jacob are truly the dynamic duo Looking forward to seeing that one run again and all of your future endeavors Thank you sir and May Gods Blessing continue for you and your family
Wily since you going to change the oil after you clean it up I'll would take some mineral spirits wash down though all of openings, let marvel mystery oil soak in each cyclinder turn it over so all the cyclinder be down from the top fill up let sit. A lot of dozer have hydraulic park brakes it has to be running to release. Some old ones had a grease fitting you could pump some grease in to release not sure with yours. Thanks for the video
Hello Wily and Jacob. I would suggest that while you have the engine stripped you do a complete replacement of the water pump. Also, don’t forget to torque down the head bolts gradually in the sequence laid down by the engine manufacturer. Thanks for your enjoyable, and sometimes comical, content. Stay safe. Stan
There is water (Coolant) that circulates through the head. You did not drain radiator, so when you loosened the head the water ran out. Water runs from the head, down into the block. You will have to remove the upper radiator hose at the water neck.
Mr. Wiley, I enjoy watching your videos. I always look forward to watching you and Hank and now Jacob. Bringing old retired forgotten heavy equipment. Keep up the good work and enjoy the out come.
Don't like too be negative but, when you break headbolts loose you break them loose in sequence usually working from center outward. It's the same as when you tighten them, always tighten them in sequence usually in two too three steps to the proper torque and sequence. Otherwise you can wrap the head. I hope this information is helpful.
Hi Wiley and Jacob. Love your channel. And much respect to Jacob for knowing the words " Yes Sir " I haven't heard those words in a long time. Except for my Daughter and Grand Kids. I Liked and shared. All the very Best from Upper east Tennessee.
Excellent video Wiley, i think it was a good idea to take the head off, that is a lot of rust in the exhaust outlets. And i agree about the muffler, its going to need some work to it. 👍👍👍👍 That head is difficult to take off, i think it could be Seized. On there. Wiley Very nice job Wiley freeing up thoes pistons, you cleaned up the head its looking very good 👍 👍 👍
Whem tracks are locked. Jack It up and put planks and pipe rollers underneath. I ran a hydro power station 9 years and worked in the bush with my Dad winches are a must have and broken cables and chains are lethal.😊
Wiley...you need to spin each cylinder down and ball hone them...plus soak them with marvel to loosen the ring lands...then blow air around the piston to free up loose material...oil the cylinders and replace the head...it'll run bud
Thanks for another great video Wiley and Jacob. It was certainly interesting. I do not know much about these dozers. This one has obvious engine problems and the tracks are locked up. My thought pattern is how much money will it take to get it moving and running in respect to how much money you can get out of it. You want to make a few dollars in the process. This might be a situation of where to draw the line. Your decision sir. Know you know where to draw that line. Thanks wiley and Jacob. Please let us know what you decide to do with it. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
You are right It is only worth so much and where do you draw that line ? Head Gasket has not come in as of this comment but its 150 bucks. Hopefully head repair will be close to that Maybe its not a serious issue with transmission Thanks for the comment
It would normally have water leak out of lose head regardless of any in cylinders because water circulates through head. It's not bad. It will run and probably be fine. Old oil will be a mess. Don't turn it over much until you change oil.
Whew , glad you got that head off but a little too close to you all when it popped! Ready for you to start putting it back together so we all can hear the beast run again. 👍
Waiting on head gasket. Been two weeks. Not in a terrible hurry but as you probably know , getting stuff is not as easy as it used to be Thanks for watching
Great video ,I'm happy all your hard work is paying off so far. That was crazy the way the head was stuck like that and just finally popped off. Ii think that is going to start Good luck.God Bless.
I'm jealous, Wily. I think you're gonna have a nice little dozer. Those cylinder walls look good! When you were finally able to spin it over with the starter motor, you got 2 thumbs up from me. I look forward to seeing your air compressor running and you being able to use impact tools and blow dirt and crud out of your way. It will sure make things easier and save you lots of time. Sorry about that poor little frog. He must have gotten in there when he was very small, maybe even a polly-wog. What a lousy place to grow up???
So a minor correction on the glow plugs. The strip that joins all four is called a bridge (it bridges power from one to the next, not heat). The actual heating element is on the tip of the glow plug, sort of like a cigarette lighter in a car. You can test them by putting 12V power to it and ground the body, it'll glow orange on the tip. If it doesn't, it's junk.
Now use your air comp to blow air around the gap in the piston and cyl wall about 4 or 5 times wipe with a rag and put light oil on the gap while doing it. Good luck
Recently discovered a penetrationing oil. Superzilla, I have had good luck with it. Love to see you try it on the tracks.I also thought you might make a concoction of some kind. Maybe ATF, + MMO + Acetone. Put that in a pump up sprayer. Wet those pins down. Every chance you get. Couldn't hurt! BTW, I share your love of MMO. Use it constantly
holy wily ive seen on watch wes work a dead mouse mouse on a on piston and nicks garage a bolt smashed in to a piston but a frog thats incredible thats one for the record books this is definitely the video of the week ive worked on cars and engines my whole life i got to say your doing good keep at it
If both sides are locked up, then the steering clutches are just rusted stuck. I've seen people get them loose by going forward and reverse a bunch of times, but you'll probably end up taking the seat and the bracket under the seat, the hydraulic valves under the seat and the various parts to get the steering clutch packs out of the drives. I will strongly recommend getting an extra long 17-19mm ratcheting swivel head wrench. You will use it for nearly everything in removing the clutch packs. Jack the machine up so that the tracks can be rotated also... you need another machine to move the tracks to get to all of the bolts... there's a 3/4" access port on the sides of the clutch area.... I just did this on my D20A5....
Nice job Wiley. That thing is going to run now. That dozer has a parking brake on it and I think that's what's got the tracks locked down. Probably going to have to check all the linkage on the transmission. It could be stuck from where it's rusted. That's just my opinion that's where I'd start getting it out of park. I think it's ran off the hydraulics if I'm not mistaken it's been a while since I worked on one but I think I'm right.
Wiley I might have lied on the parking lock on that dozer like I said it's been a while since I've worked on one. I don't remember if the Hyundai or a Komatsu that has an electric lock or a hydraulic lock might want to check for a electric lock or a hydraulic lock because they both have one or the other.

Egg boxes work well too I've used them often

Hey Wily, hi Jacob. Wily I really like how Jacob is starting to jump in and take command in wrenching stuff👍
Thanks
I can't believe you work on all that diesel stuff! Someone give that man a 3/4" breaker bar set, please! Good grief. lol
Jacob coming right along he doing better all the time I enjoyed the video thanks Wily
That head finally popped off, hope you can get it all cleaned up and back together. Looking forward to seeing it fire up and get figured out why the tracks were locked up. Good job guys!

I have pulled several heads in my life. Never had one that stuck..
And I never found a frog, on top of a piston..😂
Great video, Wiley and Jacob.
Lol

Great Job. Wily you and Jacob deserve credit even if Hank is not there helping you

Great job Wiley You are the Man Never give up
Thank you
Great job! Kinda of freaked out by the fact that cylinder head just about took you out but Hey, you got it cranking!.
I was not expecting that

Lol. His would not have been that funny
Good on you Wily you just never give up love it keep them coming Regards Jim New Zealand
Thank you,Jim
Get the compressor hooked up and it will save you a lot of time on jobs like this with some Harbor Freight air tools. I enjoyed the video, thanks.
I am
Next project
Whew , glad you got that head off but a little too close to you all when it popped! Ready for you to start putting it back together so we all can hear the beast run again. 👍

54:50 I was expecting Jacob to say "He must have crawled in there and croaked." Need to learn some of those dad jokes from Hank.
LOL
i even missed a opportunity
I never seen that
Well done men. 😊
Thanks!
Very good job and God bless y'all with all of its
Thank you
Good job Wiley and Jacob!
Thank you
Wily, you got some future vids built into this one. I’m here for you.
You need to get a breaker bar and some 1/2 inch scokets with a 24 inch or longer breaker bar.
I do and will
Another great video Wily and Jacob.that head popped off like a cork out of a bottle....👋👋👍👍
I am guessing the insides of that frog became like gorilla glue
Great video ,I'm happy all your hard work is paying off so far. That was crazy the way the head was stuck like that and just finally popped off. Ii think that is going to start Good luck.God Bless.

I give your camera man a lot of credit getting involved and helping
Thanks he is my Son

If he had blood work done
it probably showed higher than normal amounts of iron
Thank you for watching
To do it right you need to pull the block and get it hot tanked to get all the internal passages cleaned out, IMHO.
So a minor correction on the glow plugs. The strip that joins all four is called a bridge (it bridges power from one to the next, not heat). Good job on freeing up the engine
Thanks
Very interesting 🤔 content, thanks 👍 for sharing.
Good like with it Wiley it's a cool little unit!!!
Thank you and thanks for watching
What I think about that ? I think you get that head serviced and bolt it back together
Love it keep up the great work
Thank you for watching
Hi, it is recommended to replace the valve stems back in their original location as they do not have the same wear. Too bad about this engine!
I watch every video that you and Hank make love them you guys are funny together especially the jokes to Hank comes up with
I hope Hank doesn’t see this about his jokes
LOL
Thanks for watching
Very good video Hank.
Like you said nothing like a little heat and some axle grease to fix it
Hey guys ty for another video we Appreciate it sir when you told Jacob about welding top i was saying what does bottom look like
Lil dozer rust removal should plug oil ports with paper towels so rust don't fall in them .I like the videos keep them coming
Thanks for the tip
Good job Mr Wily
Thank You
May God-bless your Labor...
Thank you
Wiley someone would need that little tractor for sure
Hoping to hear it fired up & running great . Looks like a decent dozer for a small farm or small construction company.
Thank you for watching
Congratulations
Well done!
Thanks
You did great Don, you got it unstuck. Great job Guys👍👍🙏🙏😎😎🤗🤗🍮🍮
Thanks for watching
You need a breaker bar for those head bolts
Yes
I am going to get one
I am watching the Wiley team and enjoying every minute. ❤😅. Free up the rack or move like the ever ready bunny.😂
Good block of wood and a big hammer see if you can move the pistons
Recently discovered a penetrationing oil. Superzilla, I have had good luck with it. Love to see you try it on the tracks.I also thought you might make a concoction of some kind. Wiley go to habor freight get adjustable break bar they are handed
I will and thanks for watching
holy wily ive seen on watch wes work a dead mouse mouse on a on piston and nicks garage a bolt smashed in to a piston but a frog thats incredible thats one for the record books this is definitely the video of the week ive worked on cars and engines my whole life i got to say your doing good keep at it

I have never seen that either. I
Thanks for watching
That's a good little dozer
Wily I would suggest getting some brake cleaner for cleaning I would not use starting fluid good luck
Thanks for the tip
Hey Wiley Less Hankin and more crankin!!!! Hahaha love y’all . God bless!!!
Lol. For sure. Thanks for watching
Nice work.
Thanks!
If you can get the glow plug out you can put marvel mystery oil through those holes.
You have cooling ports in the head for antifreeze to keep it cool so if you don't drain the radiator you will have water running out of it
Thanks for sharing

Good Afternoon Sir I hope you are having a fantastic weekend ! 😊
You also
Wiley just remember to bring everything back to TDC the block and the head because it'
out of time now that you've spun the motor over.
Thanks for the info. I didn’t know that
Nice job Wiley.
Thanks for sharing. I was wondering the same thing about the parking brakes since both sides were locked down
I think if I were going to the trouble of removing the head I would take it to a machine shop to have it pressure tested for cracks, make sure it’s flat and probably grind valves. Just my opinion. Love your videos!
Thank you
Its in the machine shop now
Yes , it could be hydrolocked from rain in the stack.
Might get the water out and see the liners eat up with rust.
that was jacket cooling water coming out the side, since the radiator water level was a little higher.... keep on trucking... and lets go brandon
Thanks for sharing and watching
Nice job 👍 but I would still change the oil before you start it
Thank you and will do
I’ll be watching to see it running and moving
Thank you
I use the opposite end of the Jack handle
