Christian Teacher Wins $575,000 Settlement in Transgender Pronoun Dispute | EWTN News Nightly

Reaction is pouring in after a Christian teacher won a $575,000 settlement from a school board near Richmond, Virginia. Peter Vlaming refused to use male pronouns to refer to a female student who believed she was a boy. Instead, Vlaming called the student by her preferred new name. Still, in 2018 he was dismissed by the West Point School Board. Vlaming's lawsuit initially was thrown out by a lower court before being reconsidered by the state Supreme Court. Alliance Defending Freedom worked on the case. After the state Supreme Court victory, it said in part "Peter wasn't fired for something he said; he was fired for something he couldn't say." Senior Counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, Caleb Dalton, joins to share his reaction to the state Supreme Court ruling in his favor. Not only did the justices rule in favor of the Christian teacher, the school board also said it would make some changes to its policy for language and transgender students. Dalton tells us more about that. He discusses whether this case could have an impact for other Christian teachers in the state of Virginia or in other places around the country.
