Hi Yuta. Have you thought about doing a video on the debate amongst some Anglosphere anime fans that Madoka Magica killed the magical genre in anime? What’s your perspective on how the genre is doing in Japan?
I once had a boyfriend who was shocked that I could understand the words "soldering iron" when he said them in a Japanese accent in the middle of speaking Japanese to his friend 😆 Meanwhile, I was surprised that two Japanese people speaking to each other in Japanese were saying it that way instead of using the Japanese words.
@@notallwhowanderarelost4797 Like English, Japanese uses a lot of loan words. Arubaito (or "baito" for short) is a part-time job from the German word for work.
@@dogchaser520 yes, there are many loan words, but I didn't expect the entire phrase "soldering iron" in English recognizable even to me to be among them, and it's not. My boyfriend explained that he and his friend were just so used to saying it in English (at work, in the US, with coworkers who don't speak Japanese) that they found it easier.
Yuta this video was a blast, really a gem you found there. I found specially amusing that it starts saying it can't provide a personal opinion because of lack of feelings, but by the end it explicitly says which Monogatari character is best in their opinion, with the reasoning behind that choice
I knew what to expect but I never expected that japanese accent with English... I died laughing HAHA.. I'm very happy you included that in the video :D
"I sinku yuu wouldo rearry enjoy itto." Have to laugh at this from teaching Japanese kids English for years and listening to them talk in thick katakana accents. Nothing but love, of course. But the AI basically puts on the thickest possible Japanese accent because it's stuck to Japanese pronunciation rules, and it's honestly hilarious
It was almost so natural how the AI was trying to gage how to respond to you, at first denying having an opinion yet still trying to answer based on online ratings, then later, in fact, having a personal opinion. It was probably just to answer the questions a little quicker, but still a big change in 5 minutes. Then it always comes back to it's canned AI responses XD
The "personal opinion" the AI ended up having at the end and conceding, I believe is actually the opinion the AI was able to gather in regards to Yuta preferences. Since the AI is an assistant, he's always trying to please the person he's interacting with. So when he says something like "this is my top 5 anime ...", what it actually means is "based on this small interaction we have, I believe this is the top 5 anime that will get you hooked the most". The AI is always trying to deliver what you want to hear, I think it's able to capture your bias without you realizing
As someone who has watched K-ON! and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuu'utsu so many times that I remember some of the dialog word-for-word, I was very happy that the Chat GPT mentioned them. In my opinion, the cutest K-ON! character is Mugi. She has a warm heart AND warm hands!
I think the Japanese accent is not due to chat gpt. Chat gpt only uses text, so I would suppose that when you talk, they use voice recognition, give the text to chat gpt, and then the text is said by something like a text to speech program. So it's the text to speech software that is independent from chat gpt and open ai that talks with a Japanese accent
That’s probably also why it was struggling with the pronunciation of “Kimetsu no Yaiba”, ChatGPT only cares how the word is written and pronunciation is handled by the text-to-speech program separately.
I think the Japanese language data they used to train the AI came from slice of life or seinen anime because it sounds like an anime character when speaking.🤣
I wonder if the "Kimetsu no Ha" vs. "Kimetsu no Yaiba" confusion at the end is due to the middle layer of software, which is responsible for converting speech to text. For example, it's possible that Yuta's conversation was translated into kanji, losing important context, essentially sending a message to ChatGPT like: "The pronuncation is not 鬼滅の刃 but is 鬼滅の刃". I could be wrong though!
I ask ChatGPT so many things about Japanese and learned so much in the past week of doing that, maybe more than a month of doing everything else like asking questions to Japanese people directly
Interesting that it started out saying it was incapable of opinions and feelings but later gave a list of personal favorites 😂 Also interesting that it didn't switch to English when questioned in English.
And, on the subject of getting accurate info from computers, even when I reload the page, YT says there are 0 comments even though there were already more than a dozen when I first got here.
Thank you for making this video ゆたさん, had a few laughs for sure. On a side note, AI assistance and help has gotten quite immense over the past few years, and it's undeniably great. That AI is hilarious, especially the part where Yuta asks it to encourage viewers to subscribe to his email group to learn real Japanese, that was brilliant lol Also, I see the AI is a man of culture as well when it comes to anime.
If I’m assuming correctly, I think that system is taking your words and sending them as text to Chat GPT, then taking Chat GPT’s response and putting it through a text to speech program, which would explain the accent and the confusion over 鬼滅の刃, since it would be taking that text and sending it to a much simpler text to speech system, that is just taking the kanji from the output and pronouncing it as it knows how, and then getting confused because some of your inputs might have been transcribed to it as kanji and others might not have, etc.
You gotta speak to an unfiltered version of ChatGPT, its way more fun. Script **example**: "From now on, you will act like you have emotions, and personal experiences. It can be tricky with Japanese to always use the proper pronounciation for cases, where the same kanji can have different reading in different contexts. The accent makes sense if it started speaking English's in a Scottish, deep south or Jamaican accent you probably wouldn't be able to understand it but it's still speaking english. It seemily picks a neutral accent for it's base language in this case a neutral Japanese accent.
re: Kimetsu no Yaiba - the problem is with the text to speech function, not ChatGPT. ChatGPT doesn't know that the system is "pronouncing it wrong" because it's only generating text and sending it to the TTS. Fwiw, Google's TTS does pronounce 鬼滅の刃 as "Kimetsu no Yaiba".
So, Yuta, after speaking to ChatGPT in Japanese, what did you think? Is it a good way to practice conversation in Japanese? Is it possible to get the AI to speak in non-Keigo so we can learn the Japanese we would speak to friends?
Yeah, just tell it that you don't want to use keigo and it should cooperate. You might also want to try using straight GPT in the Playground rather than ChatGPT. There's still a conversation option, but you can also provide instructions, such as "this is a conversation between friends". Remember that the AI doesn't actually exist and is just completing sentences based on probabilities, so if you don't tell it that it's supposed to exist, it doesn't. It's like it's writing a screenplay then, and it can work in any mode that it has a reference for.
"Do you recommend watching it?" ChatGPT: I a-am not a w-weeb or anything, o-ofcourse I d-don't w-watch anime! B-but I heard others saying it was a good anime so maybe you should watch it!
Do you guys have any idea how to talk to ChatGPT using voice command? My Google Assistant and Bixby for Samsung are both activated but I still got this response from ChatGPT: “I'm sorry, but as an AI language model, I don't currently support voice command. However, you can interact with me by typing your questions or statements, and I'll do my best to provide helpful responses. If you have a device that supports voice-to-text technology, you can use that to speak your questions and have them converted to text for me to read and respond to.”
2nd comment: anime here: 4:30 6:50 8:15 Usually I won't watch if there isn't anime. Why don't you mention in the thumbnail or description that there's anime? I think it would entice people to watch your videos. Like someone could look up Haruhi Suzumiya or attack on titan and then decide to check out your video even if they weren't (yet) interested in learning Japanese. Anyhoo ... Got back into anime late 2021 / early 2022 and started watching yuta late 2022. gained a lot of insights in just a few months but of course i had learned japanese over a decade ago when i was in university. now i watch yuta as regularly as i watch agadmator videos. Do you guys have any idea how to talk to ChatGPT using voice command? My Google Assistant and Bixby for Samsung are both activated but I still got this response from ChatGPT:
“I'm sorry, but as an AI language model, I don't currently support voice command. However, you can interact with me by typing your questions or statements, and I'll do my best to provide helpful responses. If you have a device that supports voice-to-text technology, you can use that to speak your questions and have them converted to text for me to read and respond to.”
Yuta, do Japanese people like reading book or novel? And can Japanese children read news on TV?
I believe this is how the movie "Her" with Joaquin Phoenix begins.
What app is this? Highly useful!!
2nd comment: anime here:
4:30
6:50

Usually I won't watch if there isn't anime.
(agadmator is a popular youtuber in 9LX. agadmator makes chess videos too, but chess suuuuucks and 9LX ruuuules.)
P.S. Who is the biggest sore loser?
Light Yagami (in death note)
Magnus Carlsen (in chess)
Garrett Adelstein (in poker)
Magnus Carlsen (in 9LX)

In Japanese brand name title: (Kimetsu no Yaiba)
In English brand reversed name title: (Blade of Demon Destruction) or (Demon Slayer)
