Ustad Zakir Ji Ustad Zakirju’s tabla playing added an exquisite layer of rhythm and depth Gulamaliji Punjabi song. His mastery in creating nuanced and intricate rhythmic patterns perfectly complemented Gulamaliji’s melodic improvisations. Excellent fusion.
Thank you very much Saurav Suman sahab and Aishwrya Garg madam. Around 35 years ago in Muscat, I had heard this Punjabi gazal on BBC radio in Ghulam Ali sahab's interview. After that many times I tried a lot to get it either on cassette or on You tube, but failed. Yesterday I got it on You tube and down loaded it. Very happy to have this gazal ( in Rageshri raga ) in my collection. My most sincere thanks to both of you for sharing this master piece with Ghulam Ali fans. A good tabla performance lasts in memory of listeners much longer when delivered in company with such consummate singing! Zakir Hussain saab should have also been tagged with ghazalists like Mehedi hassan saab or Gulaam Ali saab long ago, both of whom are maestros in their respective categories- two most distinctive genre of ghazal singing! Zakir saab earned as one of the finest names but fewer will listen to him unless found in accompaniment with a maestro like this. Come on, Zakir saab! Team up with Hari Haran saab! You would have no other choice, now! We love to hear you but in equally able company. Either singing or playing tabla alone is half either way, hence incomplete! I wonder why no Ustads/Pandits/ connoisseurs of music don't talk about this anywhere!
