I stopped my car on 401 at morning 5 20 am curb side to write and thanks for posting such a masterpiece and melodious ghazals . Thanks to writer ,singer and the uploader on TH-cam . Let’s hit on the road again .

koyi aahat, na ishaara, na sraab
kaisa viraan hai ye, dasht-e-imkaan
Not a sound, neither any clue nor a lead,
How endless is it, this forest of desolation !

chaar-suu khaaq udaati hai hawa
astaraan, kaabaataraan, reg-e-ravaan
The howling wind scatters dust in all four directions,
Lashing at the slithering sands from every nook and crany in its fury!!

vaqt ke sog mein lamhon ka juluus
jaise ik qaafilaa-e-nauhaa,garaan
In this time of mourning, endless moments in a funeral march
Like a caravan of weeping mourners marching silently!

Mausam-e-dehar bahar aur na khizaan
All hope lost , despondency night and morn,
Seasons of earth: neither bright spring nor autumn all melancholy!

I have heard many of Ghulam Ali ji's ghazals. But this one hits differently. A totally different genre. Love, Respect and regards to Ali ji from my entire family. What a masterpiece!!!

The poet is Syed Razi Tirmizi. Ghulam Ali sang this Ghazal first in late 70's. I heard him sing this Ghazal in 1979 at a friend's home in Lahore. He was becoming popular at that time and had not yet forgotten his benefactor late Mr. Aijaz Khan who helped him get a chance in Radio Pakistan in early 70's. Unfortunately he stated that he does not remember anyone by that name when I met him in Atlanta few years ago. "Rang Dikhlata hey Aasman keyse keyse".

@TheUma2000 If I say that this is the best ghazal ever sung by Ghulam Ali, it may be just right. Look at the great poetry in all couplets and how gently, accurately, soberly and beautifully GA has rendered each word with greatest skill, emphasizing the meaning and maintaining the spirit and mood of all syllables. His skills are at an exciting peak. I think for the serious music and poetry lovers it is the biggest treat listening to this ghazal. (cont.)
Overlooking a few flows here and there in some of his 'masterpieces', G Ali is certainly great. His singing has reached hearts across the globe. G Ali is one of those Legends whose melodious voice will remain omnipresent through time. He is God's gift to ghazal lovers, now and always.

@sqhzaidi Another master piece of similar ranking sung by Ghulam Ali is the ghazal written by Ahmed Nadeem Quasmi, " Shaam ko subhe chaman yaad aaye" (available on YT), where GA has articulated important words used in the ghazal in a special way adding beauty, colors and clarity to their meaning. A few people know that actually it is a ' na'at- e- Rasul Sa'alum ' written by Syed Razi Tirimzi , a well known poet and broadcaster of his time . His contamporary critic and broadcaster , Hameed Nasim discussed it under the tradition of Urdu na'at , in his collection of critical essays . Syed Razi chose the genere of ghazal for this na'at . Firstly this was recorded in the CPO , Radio Pakistan , Lahore Station . The present recording is of a live show where our music maestro unlike radio recording couldn't maintain his grip over the notes . There is considerable difference of quality of ' غزل گائیکی ' between radio station recording and live show . Overall , it is one of the best performances of Ghulam Ali .

Undoubtedly, Ustaad Mehdi Hassan is a classical maestro but i personally feel , it was Ustaad Ghulam Ali who bridged the classical genre of music and made it easier to reach the ordinary listeners. Ghulam ali sounded more exciting and vibrant . No disrespect to any one but to me Ghulam Ali has a greater contribution in serving Ghazals. and yeah this is my personal opinion.
Very true mehdi sb has limited range and style of singing that's why could not sung punjabi classics and arifana kalam where as ghulam ali . Pehli wari. Beh ja mere kol. Mere shouk. Etc . Mehdi sb was more a film singer.
